Looking for an Art Deco venue for a cocktail reception for around 150 people in or around Toronto.
try the 424 Wellington. It's inexpensive, downtown and has enough of an Deco feel to pull off a theme reception. bonus, you can bring in any caterer you want.

delux on ossington
Those banquettes are ridiculous. We had to change tables when we first went there. Luckily we could switch tables as we had an early reservation. Sadly, the table we switched to had a "time limit" on it, which I hate, but there was no way we could all cram into the first table. The food is awesome, but make sure you ask for a real table.
I know they were expanding into the back. Anyone know if that's finished?
Bar/Pub Open Xmas Eve?
Please Help. Looking for a bar that's open late on Xmas Eve for some Scrooge-lite anti-holiday fun. Looking for something laid-back where we can drink and play Scrabble and feel better about being so far from family and friends. We'll bring our own Scrabble board, but we don't need a big Christmassy scene.
So what's open?
Where to find Upper Canada Cheese Company in Toronto?
Again, Fiesta Farms. They have the Niagara Gold and the Comfort Cream. Man, I love this store. Luckily I live down the street.
Caterer for Wedding
Kindred Spirits catered my wedding about 4 years ago. We had a cocktail reception with passed appetizers and food stations. The food was great, we really wanted something different with some creativity and they did it within a small budget. What I really appreciated was how they broke down the quote with complete transparency. I knew how much an extension cord rental was.
But the food was awesome. There was lots of it, nothing was insipid, and they worked with us to make sure that the food stations all offered a vegetarian option as well as a meat option.
Our reception was casual with no arranged table seating and everyone appreciated the ability to eat, drink, talk and dance throughout the evening.
Pig Head
hey. I grew up in the Philippines too. I understand the pig head, it's the mixed packs of snouts and tails that got me wondering. when would you just want snouts and tails?
Pig Head
Fiesta Farms. I love this place. They always have pig head in the meat display. You can also just buy snouts. I've also seen a mixed pack of tails and snouts (not sure what you'd use it for though?)
Brunch on Family Day (Feb 18th)
Looking for a nice brunch/lunch for 6 on Family Day. Something higher end with a good wine list.
Any ideas what's open?
Era Ora vs Lunita
I live near L'Unita and I've been a few times since it opened. I really enjoy the food but prefer the small plates to the secondi. Note: you have to order contorni with the secondi.
I find L'Unita loud and fun. It reminds me of a hip place in New York. I think it's a great place for drinks and grazing with friends. Now, I'd take my parents there, but with the understanding that it's not going to be a traditional "restaurant" experience. To get the best out of L'Unita you need to be ready to compose your own meal and share your food. Oh, and you sit really close to the people next to you (there's a big shared banquette down the wall and they will squish a three into a table for two making it a bit snug).
Era Ora is much more traditional.
What does your mum prefer?
Jam Cafe on Carlton
Jam Cafe has nothing to do with the RM. They took over the space after Bistro Aubergine failed. New chef-owner, great food, great prices, old pro servers from Gamelle.
Don't confuse the two restaurants. Jam is new and worth checking out.

Cluck Grunt and Low Review
I ate there last night too. The potato salad was seriously crunchy and they were out of cornbread which we only learned after we tried to order it. I found the dry rub ribs to be very dry. I had two ribs that I couldn't pull (break?) apart - bad sign. I was scared that if I pulled harder one of them was going to go flying across the room. I live nearby and love bbq and really want to see this place succeed. I liked the friendly staff and room, but I think the kitchen needs to check the food before it goes out.
ive narrowed it down, ladies and gentlemen...
I hosted a private dinner for 25 at pony 2 years ago. They did an excellent job of creating a customized prix fixe menu with multiple choices for each course. And while it's not the best resturant in the city, it's not the worst. The private room is attractive and everybody was pleased with the food and the service. They even made us personalized menus for the occasion.
need help with vague description
It must be Il Fornello (and Lago, their sister "lounge" next door). I was there this weekend and they had a large sign by the entrance "one of Toronto's best as ranked by Zagat". And you know what, it wasn't bad.
