COALHOUSE PIZZA IN STAMFORD - ANYONE BEEN? HEARD GREAT THINGS

I love Coalhouse - great beer selection and some very creative pizzas. A personal favorite is topped with goat cheese, pears, and pistachios but they many more, ranging from the unique (Korean BBQ) to traditional.

Make your own six pack

There are two places I know of in the Fairfield County area
1) 99 Bottles in East Norwalk - can match any beers and a great selection.

2) Whole Foods in Darien - seems random but they have an entire wall of beer for making your own 6 pack and again, nice selection. I assume more expensive though.

Burger Bar SoNo

Completely agree on the poor service so would not recommend going when very hungry. That said, if you have some extra time and don't mind a longer than needed wait, I do think the burgers are good and the front bar area (newer than the rest as it expanded a couple of years back) is a good spot for a drink or two.

Rehearsal Dinner site in New Canaan/Norwalk area

Barcelona in South Norwalk could be worth looking into, not just for the solid food (Spanish/tapas) but they have a large room that I have seen rented out for private functions, which is somewhat of a rarity in the area (to my knowledge at least).

SONO Sunday Lunch

I'm not sure if it was this past Sunday you were interested in, but GingerMan on Washington Street is another option. Better food and atmosphere than Brewhouse and service than Burger Bar, based on my experiences. It also has one of the nicer outdoor spaces in the area (mainly because it is enclosed and not on the actual street) and if your husband is a beer drinker at all, probably the best selection in the area.

Bella Pasta in SoNo

My wife and I went there last night and were VERY pleased. We started with the Tortilla Espanola (potato onion omelette) and had the Paella and Capellini con Calamari for entrees - all of which were delicious. Throw in a great bottle of Argentinian Malbec - all for $70. I'm sure the location is a little challenging as there isn't quite as much of a draw as the Washington Street restaurants (except for O'Neills) but hopefully positive word of mouth helps them out.

Bacchus South Norwalk to Reopen?

Looks like the reopening will be on April 1 starting at 5pm. The website mentions BYOB, which is probably a short term situation while they renew their liquor license (or maybe a one-time thing for the grand reopening itself).

Penny Lane Pub Lunch

I have had two great lunches at the Penny Lane Pub. The first was over a year ago and ordered one of the specials of the day - a meatloaf panini (melted cheese, tomatoes) with fries. It was absolutely fantastic - so much so that when I went back 8 months later and saw it on the menu again, I had to order a 2nd time. It is my go-to spot when making the trip up to Clinton outlets.

Bacchus South Norwalk to Reopen?

Very true, the website did say that for a long time but then the site itself was no longer live from what I recall. It's possible this is just part of the South Norwalk effort to make empty storefronts/spaces a bit more presentable but hopefully it's not.
And you're right - now that I think about it, Bacchus closed about 2 years ago

Bacchus South Norwalk to Reopen?

I was walking by the other day and saw the windows were no longer covered up (which it had been for the past year or so). I also see the website is back up and says grand reopening soon. I know it closed shortly after opening in the first place - I believe due to issues with the chef or owners from the previous restaurant Bistro du Soleil - which was a shame because I had a fantastic meal there. Does anyone have additional information on its status?

Anyone tried brunch @ Little Pub in Ridgefield?

My family and I actually went to the Little Pub for the first time yesterday. While none of us ordered anything off the brunch menu (eggs florentine, french toast, 1-2 other items) we all had fantastic meals: steakhouse burger, ventura highway burger, thanksgiving turkey wrap, and the balsamic chicken sandwich. I'm not sure how much their menu changes from month month, but I would definitely recommend making it there for the January options. Look forward to going back

Norwalk Recs, Please help!!

Barcelona does have entree options, such as filet mignon and grilled lamb chop in addition to a large tapas menu (included link below).
In terms of Italian, there is also Strada 18 - located on the same block as Match with tasy pizzas and really good pasta. They have a large table that takes up a large portion of the back, but it is close to the bathroom which I have seen people comment on in the past in terms of being high traffic.
For more standard American food, there is Gingerman which is probably best known for its beer selection (50+ on draft) but I have always enjoyed the food - definitely more casual than the others though and maybe not as "fancy" for such a celebration dinner, but perhaps an easier option for your grandparents?

Dinner out for 12 - Norwalk Area ??

You might want to consider the GingerMan - better food than Brewhouse in my opinion and they have a few spots where they could combine tables to accomodate a larger group. I have never seen it be as loud as Fat Cat either so should be easier to talk. Strada 18 is another option - they have a large table in back so would not be as noisy as it gets in the front of the restaurant. It might be trickier to get the reservation though. Either way, I personally love both places.

Anyone Been To Lolita's In Greenwich Lately?

I haven't been to Lolita's but it seems the owners are opening a similar restaurant in South Norwalk, called Red Lulu (same logo as Lolita's). It's on Washington Street at the old Ocean Drive location.

Bonne Nuit/New Canaan-Very Disappointing!!

My wife and I actually planning to go to Bonne Nuit on Saturday night, will follow up with a review. We also ate at Aloi for the first time a few weeks back based on the comments and reviews I had seen here. Overall we really liked it. The service wasn't the best, but I think a large part of it was due to our table - right off the bar, not in either of the two "main" dining areas so probably got overlooked by some of the staff. The food was excellent though - veal scallopine and a pasta (can't remember the exact kind) with veal ragu for entrees - and will definitely return. We also really liked walking around the area, as we hadn't been to New Canaan before. Made a mental note of other restaurants in the area to try down the road.

Going BACCHUS for More (South Norwalk, CT)

Does anyone know if Bacchus is officially closed? I know it was closed for a long time due to disputes with the former owners and the website said it would be opening at some point earlier this year, but doesn't seem like anything has changed and now I think the website has been taken down.

Burger Bar Sono

Have only tried the burgers (and fries) and agree they are great. My only complaint has been the service at times. Went there over the weekend and had to wait about 10 minutes for 1 of the 2 servers to even stop by with a menu and then even longer to get a drink order in - and it didn't seem too busy at all.

Donovan-Mackenzies and the SoNo Restaurant Scene

A few neighbors of mine have said it gets crowded on Friday and Saturday nights. UWS - you mentioned picking up lunch but have you gone around dinner? I can definitely see it not having much of a lunch crowd but was curious about later in the day.

Speaking of that immediate area, the Burger Bar is apparently planning to expand its location this Spring according to signs in the window of what was "Mokka Cafe" (right next to movie theater). Glad to see it since the current location is very small.

New Sono Diner: Great Neighborhood Addition

It's actually located where Habana used to be - 70 North Main Street, up the street from the movie theather and Kazu (across the street from the Dunkin Donuts).

Glad to hear a good review - hoping it can last there.

Restaurant Closings in Sono?

That's too bad - I was pretty excited when it first opened and although the service was pretty slow the couple of times I went, was hoping it would pick up. Like JP62 said, I thought the beer selection was a nice addition to places in the area like GingerMan and Brewhouse. Maybe the location (just off the main strip on Washington) put it at a disadvantage for attracting people.

Restaurant Closings in Sono?

Does anyone know if Brasserie Molliere and Habana have both closed in South Norwalk? I walk by both every day and have not seen them open for a while now.

Lunch near Norwalk - Help!

For South Norwalk, GingerMan and The Brewhouse are both pretty basic - range from burgers to chicken sandwiches and standard appetizers. Both also have good beer selection should that interest anyone. The Burger Barn also has great burgers, which should hopefully work for most picky eaters. The menus are below (can't find menu to South Norwalk GingerMan but the Greenwich one looks similar)

Going BACCHUS for More (South Norwalk, CT)

My wife and I ate here on Saturday night for our 1st wedding anniversary and could not have loved it more. When we arrived for our reservation we were informed our table would be next to a large party – roughly 15 people. We mentioned the special occasion to the maitre d' and he offered to buy us a round of drinks at the bar while we waited for another table to open.
We started with the mussels and $35 bottle of Argentinean Malbec. My wife had the rigatoni d’angelo and I had the 10oz. filet mignon (per the recommendation of the maitre d'). For dessert we had the pana cottta and chocolate mousse. Everything was absolutely delicious.
This is now one of our favorite places in SoNo. Great atmosphere, great food, and the service by the maitre d' alone was fantastic (he checked in on us several times throughout the night). I would definitely recommend this to anyone contemplating going, and for anyone who was unaware, their website is now up with full menu: http://bacchussono.com/.
