Actually, they're open from 11 until he runs out of meat :) The business card says "11-?"

Absolute best burger in Texas?

Boots Burger is ABSOLUTELY still open :) We had it for lunch today. Tasty, tasty burger. My boss's husband went to pick them up, and he had to walk 2 blocks to the pickup window. 17 cars in a line, waiting!

Gift Dinner/Drinks Recommendation

You know, I have no idea if she likes oysters or not! I'll look into that. Thanks for the recommendation :)

Gift Dinner/Drinks Recommendation

She likes everything, however I think I'd like to stay away from sushi. Something romantic might be good, or somewhere more loud/fun/party atmosphere would be good too.

She knows a lot of people in the industry in Austin, and especially in the downtown area. She's worked at a number of restaurants and knows people who have worked at even more, so she goes out a lot and to a wide variety of places.

Somewhere new might be good, and I'm also considering the card I linked to above because it lets her pick - tho what I've read about Gypsy on this board isn't too encouraging, Louie's 106 seems to be generally approved of and it looked like mostly good things about Sao Paulo's.

The idea behind her present is going to be kind of a handful of cards, none of which will pay for everything, but say 25-50 bucks toward a few things. My challenge is finding somewhere good that also sells cards, and short of calling every restaurant in Austin I'm not sure how to accomplish that :)

I also found this when googling: http://austin.where2eat.com/Austin_gi...

Kind of intriguing.

Gift Dinner/Drinks Recommendation

I live in Dallas, but my sister lives in Austin. She works in the restaurant industry -- she's the bar manager at a frequently talked about restaurant on this forum, so I won't call her out :) -- but for Christmas I'm working on a "gift card pack" - and two of the cards I need are dinner and drinks. She likes to try most anything, and is obviously knowledgable about what makes up a good drink. I've read several threads on this forum but from visiting the websites it's hard to tell if gift cards are available or not.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Stephanie

Dallas - Thin Crust Pizza

Pizza Villa is far from fancy. It's an old place and looks it. The service isn't all that great, and it often smells like a weird mix of cigarette smoke and bleach.

That said, it's an EXCELLENT pizza. I get mine to go :P

Wow. This is RIGHT by my house and I've never been there :) I'm going to have to check it out, I'll report back.

Birthday Dinner for 10-15 in Dallas/Fort Worth

Thanks for the recommendation :) I emailed Yao Fuzi to ask about their private room and the set price menus. $35-50/person isn't un-doable, if they have a good selection of items.

Birthday Dinner for 10-15 in Dallas/Fort Worth

Cafe Madrid sounds like a lot of fun, too!

I'm so undecided about what I want to drag everyone to -- I'll be taking some of them a little out of their comfort zone, we usually do churrascurrias or something for birthday/celebrations.

Luckily, I don't have to decide for another couple of months. December birthday. I just figured with holiday parties it would probably be best to decide on a place and get a room reserved if they had one.

Birthday Dinner for 10-15 in Dallas/Fort Worth

Wow I hadn't heard of that place - I don't spend much time in Fort Worth at all, though people are always telling me how much I would like it if I did. Probably a little too casual for what I had in mind, but definitely a place I'm going to put on my list :) thanks for the rec!

Birthday Dinner for 10-15 in Dallas/Fort Worth

I'm looking for something memorable to do for my 35th birthday, and while I don't want to spend gazillions of dollars, one thing just about all my friends and family appreciate is good food. I don't want anything too dressy, or too expensive - I'm thinking about seeing if I can spring for the whole thing and just have people come - but I want the food to be good. Offbeat would be fine, and they don't necessarily need to have private rooms or anything like that - just be able to handle a table of as many as 15 people without freaking out :) Any suggestions in the Dallas/Fort Worth area?
