After the Ball Fields
Hi, a friend and I want to check out the Red Hook Ball fields next weekend and I was wondering where to stroll for more interesting things to sample afterwards? Is there one particular street/ave that would extend our appetite for the variety that Brooklyn has to offer?
Sunday in NY-lunch before plane to Europe-Upper East Side
Glasers Bake Shop, 1st and 87th. Old school. Great black and whites. Amazingly friendly service. And for pizza I like San Matteo on 2nd and 90th www.sanmatteopanuozzo.com
Deli? 2nd Ave deli opened a location on 75th & First. Haven't been so don't know if it's as good as other location.
Best Greek restaurant in ASTORIA and bakery too(Greek) for dessert!
Neptune Diner?
Glad you liked Artopolis. The coconut baklavah is incredible. So is everything I've had there. Last time I bought the frozen spinach pies and they too are amazing. And the service is great. I'll admit it's a bit pricey but so worth it.
North Jersey , ethnic , good eats ??
I second Turkois Grille, a close drive from Montvale or USR. Really great quality food and service.
Lunch in or Near Suffern
My cousins who live in Montvale took me to Turkois Grille in Airmont last Sunday and it was fantastic. The dips were great. amazing freshly baked pide bread. I had the Manti entree, best I've had in many Turkish places in NYC, my cousins can't seem to order anything but the lamb kebab as they love it so much. The service was very attentive as well. I'd highly recommend it to anyone, I hope it gets some buzz on the NJ board as well since it's so close. Surprised yours was the only mention of this place on the site, JRBlack.
Veatery on 2nd @ 88th
I can't believe I still haven't at least gotten take out from here but no one else has either?
Veatery on 2nd @ 88th

Ate at Italian restaurant this weekend and they only offered bottled water - sparkling or flat
"the bottle of water was 7 dollars which is not a lot of money".
$7 isn't a lot of money? For water? When you have the world's best tap water for a fraction of that price? I would have said "no thank you" or just left.
Is there a reason why you haven't named the restaurant? Many here on chowhound know about Sapori D'ischia in Woodside, would you mind telling us the name of this place so we are forewarned?

Try a hotel, Hilton by Grand Central comes to mind. Maybe you'd consider a family style place which I believe are more prevalent. Try opentable for a quick search.
Holiday Lunch in Queens for 15-20, Private Room a plus..
Well, seeing as I got such an overwhelming response to my query last year...we went back to Ponticello and they gave us a private room but it was quite large, am sure it is usually used for 3 or more large tables rather than just the one long we had. Anyone have any thoughts for this year? The only other restriction is it must have a full bar and preferably be close to a train (E, R, N).
Thanks in advance.

Lots to choose from.
Have you searched "Citifield" or "US Open" or "Flushing" or "Corona?"

UES Fairway
Same comment about the shrimp salad. All I tasted was onion. I actually prefer the shrimp salad at the 86th St Tal.
And I actually threw out the roasted cauliflower from the app dept. I don't really love cauliflower but this stuff looked pretty good and one bite..ew. Just a really weird taste. So far have only been really impressed w/the baked goods (a blueberry crumb cake was to die for) and a work friend goes nuts over the fresh bagetttes. Before hurricane shopping she could have sold hers for a large profit from people on the street disappointed that the store closed that Saturday at 10AM!

new gyro grill set to open on woodhaven in Rego Park?
Fries are never good delivered. But good to know about the other less offending items. I go to Woodhaven House a lot, maybe I'll stop by this place next time for a bite instead.

FAIRWAY UPPER EAST opens this Wed the 20th at 11am!!!
Did a quick run through. Very crowded and the check out situation needs to be organized better but overall prices seem reasonable and I think it will be a lot more manageable once the crowds die down. Wish they had escalators like the UWS TJs but seem to only have oversized elevators (one of 3 was already out of service) and stairs. The fruits and veges were just overwhelming for us deprived UESers! And love the 7AM-11PM hours.
Luke's, UES
Loved the crab roll, much sweeter than lobster. Went at lunchtime, much more manageable.
Manor Oktoberfest
Opened around a year and a half ago? Have only hung at the bar after work, never sat in the restaurant but have always had great bar service and the food is very good. Especially love the german potato salad and they have a chicken brat sometimes that is very good as well, as is the pork sandwich. It's a long walk from Continental, I've done it a few times, but a nice spot to gather considering that part of Forest Hills has no bars.
Sunday evening dinner near 59th and Lexington
Walk over to First Ave and go to Tiella. They take reservations. Incredibly friendly staff and amazing menu, w/homemade pastas and tiellas.

Food/Drink in Wrigley
Thanks so much for the update. I may be doing most of my drinking before the game since I've been leaning more towards vodka drinks lately than beer, but my friends will definetly appreciate it.
Food/Drink in Wrigley
Thanks so much for the quick response. I noticed on the Cubs website that they have the same restrictions as Yankee stadium, which really isn't bad at all, I bring my own food in all the time. And thanks for the heads up about the sandwiches not traveling well, didn't really think that all the way through. May be better off finding a less messy sandwich to bring in w/us. Beer prices seem reasonable for a ballpark.
Food/Drink in Wrigley
Hi, I've read many posts about food on the way to Wrigley or post-game places but not much about the food in Wrigley. Is there a particular reason for that? Is the food not worthy? Do you recommend getting Italian beef sandwiches at Al's or Portillo's and bringing them into the game? Also, just curious, what are the beer prices like in Wrigley? Going to 2 games so curious how much money the game-time libations will set me back (I'm sure they can't beat the the $12 pint of Stella or $9 cup of Bud at Yankee Stadium). Thanks.
