Breakfast in Cinci

Grande Finale in Springdale has a good brunch and fantastic desserts. As chain restaurants go First Watch is okay but I much prefer Original Pancake House in Montgomery (bacon is a must there).

Which Ohio Graeter's Location Best?

There's a Graeter's on the west side of Columbus just off SR 315 (I think it's west off the Lane Ave. exit.

If you're going to Jungle Jim's (and you definitely should) the closest is on Cox Rd. near Voice of America Park. My very favorite location is at Hyde Park Square because it's one of the oldest and is in a nice setting.

Cincinnati chili and food trucks

One of my fave places is in Blue Ash (next to Sharonville). It's New Orleans to Go. They started as a food truck and then opened a bistro in Blue Ash. Generally the bistro is only open for lunch. You can check their Twitter feed (@NewOrleanstoGo) for their daily menu.

Bones Burgers (@BonesBurgers) has great grass fed beef burgers. They travel all around the Cincy area. I highly recommend their parmesan fries. @CincyFTA is the feed for the Cincy food truck association and they provide the day to day whereabouts of the numerous trucks.

Blue Ash Chili and CW are probably the 2 best. BAC is close to Sharonville.

Toronto to Louisville on i75 - Food Stops?

For Cincy if you want to try Cincinnati chili Camp Washington (http://www.campwashingtonchili.com/) is right off 75. Cincy chili is a condiment, not a meal so eat it as a 3,4 or 5 way or a cheese coney. If BBQ is your thing Jim Dandy's (http://www.jimdandybbq.com/) is north of downtown. Downtown has a bunch of great food trucks with New Orleans to Go (http://www.neworleanstogopoboys.com/) being my fave.
If you have time to spare and can take a 10 minute jog off the interstate then check out Jungle Jim's (http://www.junglejims.com/) in Fairfield. It's a mega-international grocery store where you can find just about anything.

Good food in Canton, Ohio

Well it's been about 17 years since I've been there, but http://www.thegeisenhaus.com/Menu.html (warning: auto loads music) was a weekly venture when I lived up there. Sad to here that Mulligan's has gone downhill. That used to be our 2nd fave Canton chow spot.

Cincinnati - Historic Restaurants

Unfortunately some classics are no longer: Maisonette and Lenharts come to mind. If you're thinking of restaurants that have stood the test of time I can think of the following: Hathaway's (downtown), Maury's Tiny Cove (Western Hills), Barrissi's (Deer Park), Echo (Hyde Park), Graeter's (Hyde Park Square), Zip's (Mt. Lookout).

Cincinnati Weekend

LaRosa's used to be great when I was back in college in the 80's, but I swear their sauce and crust recipes have changed. I recall in the old days that the sauce had a nice kick, but I think they dialed back the spices in favor of more sugar. Way too sweet now. I also don't recall their pizza being as greasy as it is today.
Montgomery Inn-ribs fall off the bone and are tender (i.e, way too mushy for me). The sauce is thin and sugary. But some people like them that way. I prefer a dry rub myself.

Zinzinnati has the largest Oktoberfest outside of Germany. There will be tons of people but they will be mostly concentrated right on 4th St. It is definitely Chowhound worthy, but there are good booths and mediocre booths. If nothing else hit Schmidt's Sausage and at least get the cream puff. The Bengals aren't in town that weekend but the Reds have an afternoon game on Saturday and Sunday. I've found that aside from 4th St., the rest of downtown is actually fairly quiet as everyone converges on the event.

My take on Montgomery Ribs is that there food is good as long as you don't order the ribs.

If you're going to the Reds game I highly recommend Morlein Ale House. It's one of the few non chains by the park with fantastic views, local brews and a pretty big menu. On game days it will get very crowded.

In addition to the rec of Tacqueria Mercado (the best Mexican food around and they do carry out) I would also recommend Nicholson's on Walnut about a block from Fountain Square. They're open on Sundays and have a ton of imports on draft. It's still one of my favorite places to eat.

The Green Dog http://www.greendogcafe.net/features.... is open for brunch but you'd have to take a short cab ride to get there. I've not been yet but hear good things about the food and they seem to have an eclectic menu.

North Cincinnati casual dinner recs

Blue Ash resident here. For slightly upscale food the Brown Dog is the best. For more casual Sammy's Burgers are great and they have 30 ounce drafts and stools at the bar. InCahoots in the Kroger plaza is much nicer on the inside than appears on the outside. Good food in a relaxed setting. I think they have a bar/food area but I'm not sure. There's also Slats and Parker Brothers, the latter of which can be on the pricey side. If you like Thai the Bangkok Terrace is good. For quasi-Mexican try the Cactus Pear.

If you're in town on a Friday you can take food and alcohol to the town square for a free concert. The Modulators are there tomorrow (so-so) and the Remains are there next week.

My Geography Stinks. Is Cincinnati in this Great Lakes Area? If so......

Any of Jeff Ruby's restaurants will get you a great steak. The 65 day dry aged beef is killer.

Cincinnati -UC college graduation - need lunch and dinner ideas for next weekend...help!

Ha! I was driving down Calhoun yesterday and say the sign for Maya's and thought, "that must be new". Then I saw the sign that they were celebrating 30 years. I lived in Calhoun Hall and 3 years on Ohio Ave. and walked by it several times a day and never new it existed. Now I'll have to stop in the next time I'm in the neighborhood.

New in Cincinnati?

1st off, welcome back home.
2nd:
BBQ: Jim Dandy's in Sharonville is absolutely the best. BBQ Review in Madisonville is a close 2nd (but their sauce isn't all that gerat)
3rd: Mexican: Taqueria Mercado in Fairfield or downtown or Dinastia Latina in Sharonville.
4th: My current fave, Ali Baba on Red Bank Rd. Kind of chaotic to order but very well worth the wait.

Need a little help in Cincinnati (researched)

Johnbycz, Davwud, Camp Washington over Blue Ash Chili??!! Pistols at dawn sirs, pistols at dawn. JK, either one serves great chow (but I live around the corner from BA Chili and they serve alcohol).

Nicholson's is one of my top 3 places to eat in the Tri-County area (best fish and chips evah), but I've heard great things about Moerlein's and it's just a stumble from Great American Park so give it a try.

Get some goetta at Hathaway's in Carew Tower.

If you like Mexican, Taqueria Mercado (7th & Walnut?) is the best you will find. Get the goat tacos if they have them.

I don't have any rec's within walking distance (since they've completely renovated the area), but as an '85 grad may I say, congratulations on raising a fine Bearcat.

Double decker sandwiches in Cinncinati?

I have to agree about the Dead Squirrel. It's edible but not great. I'm just not a huge fan of the double decker Cincy sandwiches. And you were only 5 minutes away from the best BBQ (Jim Dandy's off of Sharon Rd.) or Mexican (Taqueria Mercado on Rte. 4) in the region.

Catering suggestions for Kiawah/Charleston SC

My wife is trying to plan for her parents 50th anniversary while we're staying on Kiawah, S.C. We're in a rental that can easily accomodate 25 people on the deck, so I thought it might be easy to have a clam bake style catered event. Any suggestions? (Doesn't have to be a clam bake, but given the Ohio participants it would probably be appreciated if fresh seafood were on the menu).

Cincinnati Dining Dilemna

My favorite nice place to eat is the Brown Dog in Blue Ash (it's closer than Mason). Favorite casual place to eat is Ali Baba's on Red Bank Road. Moerlien Lager House has been getting some great reviews. If the Reds aren't playing it may be a good time to check it out.

Good restaurant for prime rib and Asian market in Cincy?

F&N was a hidden jewel. And I agree about Outback. I can't say I've ever had a bad meal there (especially since I've been eating free on gift cards I get every year).

It's been years since I've been, but what about Maury's Tiny Cove in Western Hills? It used to be a great steak and bourbon type restaurant.

Good restaurant for prime rib and Asian market in Cincy?

For Asian grocery stores there is CAM on Glendale-Milford Rd. in Sharonville (they might have other locations) and Jungle Jim's in Fairfield.

For prime rib I'd recommend Jeff Ruby's or The Precinct. They house age all their meat.

Cincinnati - Need rec's for casual dinner downtown

I love Nicholson's on Walnut. It's a Scottish pub and the food is great (don't worry, they don't serve haggis). The Hoffbrau Haus in Newport is another one of my faves.

Trick-or-Treating in the Rich Neighborhood

Going to the "affluent neighborhoods" is a rookie mistake, kids. I live in the old part of very modest Cape Cods and ranches that are close together on small lots. I used to take my kids to the next block where the houses and yards are bigger. Both neighborhoods gave the same stupid fun/snack size candy, but the other required twice as much work to get the same amount as our block. For the record, the only houses that gave full size bars were in the working class section.

Perfect the way it is. (Okay, I added some fresh thyme). Made this for a family of 4 with the cold/flu. Even if it doesn't help with recovery, MIGHTY delicious.

Best Steakhouse in Cincinnati (or ANYWHERE, in my opinion) . . .

I think I've eaten at every Jeff Ruby restaurant and they are all superb. The only restaurant that would compare would be F & N in Kentucky, but they went out of business about 10 years ago. I tend to prefer The Precinct

Best Mexican restaurants in Cincinnati . . .

Both Mercado and Maya are excellent (and according to the people at Maya, they are related). I would HIGHLY encourage you to check out Dinastia Latina on Reading Rd. in Sharonville. One of my fave Mexican restaurants. Great food. The owner goes out of her way to make you feel like family.
