where to buy lobster in baltimore?

My husband always makes me lobster risotto for Valentine's day and he got them at Wegman's if you can go outside the city proper. They were great, though I don't know about the price.

Nice restaurant 1 hour from Chincoteague Island?

Was there most recently in March and had several mediocre meals and then a great one at the Sea Shell Cafe on Maddox--recommend it highly.

Log Cake Mystery (B'more & burbs)

Bon Jour at 6070 Falls Rd. is supposed to have good ones and meets your city/county criterion.

Has anyone been to Taste at Belvedere recently?

In my opinion, it wasn't even worth it on the cheap Tuesdays. Only went once and it was so bad we haven't wanted to return.

Tourists in Baltimore

The season's summer through early fall, but that doesn't mean you can't find some great crab dishes while you're here. Mama's on the Half Shell is a great suggestion, but for an all-crab weekend I arranged for friends from NYC last fall, we also had the crab cake at Faidley's (Lexington Market), fried hard crab (a crab stuffed with a crab cake) as well as softshells at LP Steamers on Fort Ave., and for the piece de resistance, the crab and fried green tomato eggs benedict at Miss Shirleys (breakfast and lunch only). Also, while I normally won't touch a crab cake anywhere but Faidleys, we went to Joe's Bistro in Canton for the first time recently and a friend ordered theirs and I have to say, it was a close and delicious second. d

Instant yeast for the NYT no-knead bread?

Anyone know where to find instant yeast in Baltimore? I'm dying to make the no-knead bread that was in Mark Bittman's column last month--several friends tell me it's incredible--but it calls for instant yeast and I haven't been able to find it at Whole Foods, Giant, Superfresh, or anywhere else. From my online research, this is a totally different thing than active dry or rapid rise yeast so please don't suggest those--the recipe calls for adding it to the dry ingredients without proofing. HELP--I want to make this for Christmas dinner.

Cheese shops in Baltimore?

The Old Vine on Falls Road has a nice selection, as well.

Baltimore Multiple Choice

Saffron is the best "occasion" restaurant I've eaten at this year.

best flavor in baltimore?

Tried Ras Doobie yesterday for the first time and I have to say I don't see what the fuss on the board is about--I've never felt so wrongly steered by a chowhound recommendation. Totally ordinary cooking in a truly filthy setting. The rice and peas were fine but nothing special, and the curried chicken was totally bland. The beer was lukewarm. The only thing outstanding were the plaintains, but they didn't warrant the $35 for two price for lunch--to top it all off they overcharged us. We'll never go back.

Best real milkshakes in Baltimore?

I'm pretty sure Ye Olde Malt Shop closed, so check before you go.

Good eats around JHU in Baltimore

Miss Shirley's on Cold Spring Lane is fantastic. A New Orleans tilt--biscuits, andouille, etc., and lots of fantastic choices for breakfast and lunch. Try the fried green tomato crab benedict with corn and spic hollandaise. Superb.

Salt Service

Tried Salt on Pratt Street for the first time last week and the food was quite good--a nice piece of tuna, well cooked, a good salad, etc., but the service was absolutely crazed--the waitress wouldn't let us alone and interrupted our conversation at least a dozen times during the meal to start her own conversations about the food. It was our anniversary and we really just wanted to talk to each other, not her. She was also very touchy-feely and at one point while we were holding hands on the table came and put her hands over ours. We felt bad for her because she had a cast on her foot and so didn't feel like taking it out on her monetarily, but we will definitely try to be seated in a different station the next time we go back. Has anyone else had this experience and were you better at handling it than we were?
