Harold's New York Deli Restaurant In Edison Irving's opened in Livingston a few years back to lots of hoopla. They modeled themselves after Katz's. They hand sliced their pastrami, got the chief cutter from Katz's to teach the countermen how to slice meat and even used tickets ala Katz. Their meat and service were first class. After a while , however, they started to cut corners and even cut down the size of their sandwiches. Their customer base dwindled down to near nothing. Their mistake......opening in NJ where everyone compares a deli to New York. A tough act to follow. |

Petak's Kosher Deli in Fair Lawn - New Ownership? I lived in Fair Lawn a while back. My go to place was Petak's although Kosher Nosh also made a good sandwich. Then I moved to Livingston and, like you, loved Irving's. The sandwich was great. Then the place slipped big time and y wouldn't go there. Hobby's is good. But, the "king" is still Katz's. I would love a go to place in NJ. I still can't find one. |

Petak's Kosher Deli in Fair Lawn - New Ownership? True. But, what about Irving's in Livingston or the old-time delis in Newark? |

New restaurant coming to Freehold Raceway Mall Food wasn't bad. Pretty good, in fact. Service was lousy. Very amateurish for the price paid. |

Is There Any Decent Food in Livingston Now? Any? Livingston dining is a vast wasteland. Try Millburn or the Caldwells. You'll be surprised |

Went there with friends last night. To put it bluntly...it was a disaster. The food wasn't bad. The service was abysmal. When we arrived(7:30) ,the place was full. It quickly cleared out with no "turn-over" of tables. That was my first hint that we were in for a bad time. The waiter and busboys all had a take it or leave it attitude. So much for the supposed friendliness of the restaurant. The food, although palatable, was nothing special and I certainly expected better. When asked for the check, the waiter forgot about us for about a 1/2 hour. He must have gone out to eat...lol. So much for our adventure in South River. I'll stick to the Ironbound from now on. |

Has anyone been to the Portuguese Fisherman in South River? Friends rave about the restaurant. |

Ate there last night. The food and service were superb. I'm a foodie and was impressed by the overall quality of the food and service. The proof of the pudding was that the place was crowded. Didn't check the barthrooms though. It's a keeper and will go there again. |
