Go to the Cook's Library on Third Street and look at their bulletin board. There are a bunch of cooks there that will prob come to your casa. Beware, they are closing shop on April 30. So go soon. Other alternative: call a cooking school. They will prob be able to help you.

Dinner for 10 Tuesday- Amazing place
Hola. Here's a toughy: Where to go on Tuesday with grandparents and out-of-towners. My grandparents want to take their guests to a great place that will have a lively vibe, on the West side or Downtown. Expense no issue. Their first choice was Lawrys (old school). It's booked. Thanks in advance.
Gnocchi near West Hollywood
I'm craving Gnocchi. Any recommendations near WEHO for tonight?
Thanks.
Bastide closed (gasp)
I recently heard that an upscale Mexican might be in the works with some celeb chefs.. Just a rumor though.
Bastide called me a few minutes ago to cancel my reso for 2 weeks from now. The French man on the phone did not give much info, just that it was closed and he did not know when it would reopen. Too bad, I was looking forward to that meal.
ISO - special birthday dinner, similar to CUT but less $$$$$
Wolfgangs has great steaks! And have you seen the fancy toilets there? (no kidding)
Best Cheese Shop in LA?
All great suggestions already mentioned. Depending where you are located:
Westwood: Jenny at Wally's Wine
Beverly HIlls: Norbert at BH Cheese
Third Street: Joan's on Third
Silverlake: Chris at The Cheese Store of Silverlake
I haven't been to Andrew's in Santa Monica yet, but that is also an option.
Hollywood: Froma
Dinner in Santa Ana
I'd love a great recommendation for dinner in Santa Ana on a Saturday night. Can be expensive or cheap, the only criteria is amazing food. Thanks in advance!
Dinner in Redondo
Thanks to all of you hounds for the great recommendations. I went to Izakaya Bincho and loved it!
What a fab discovery in Redondo Beach that is definitely worth a drive. Izakaya Bincho is a little hole-in-the wall on the pier that has great Japanese dishes.
It was around 8:00 when we sauntered in. Parking was easy; there were plenty of empty spots at the large, public lot. The pier was pretty quiet, as was the restaurant. There were 4 people in the place, all Japanese men that looked like they were in their 30s. Two were sitting at a booth, one on a bar stool. The owner was behind the small counter that stretched one side of the tiny restaurant, chatting with everyone in Japanese, a good sign of an authentic restaurant.
We were seated and handed 2 menus, the regular one and the specials of the day, a sheet of paper handwritten in blue ball point ink, a cute detail demonstrating the intimacy of the place. Even though the owner spoke little English, he was friendly and provided great service. I asked about a few dishes, some he recommended, a few he suggested that we should not order, by saying "uh-uh" and shaking his head. I'm guessing they were out of them.
The homemade Ricotta cheese tofu was absolutely divine. From his little English I understood him to say that he was the one that makes the dish. Made with soy, Ricotta, soy sauce and gelatin, it was like a silky custard served like a scoop of ice cream with a slightly grainy texture of Ricotta. That dish alone makes this a place definitely worth returning.
We also ate small, light meatballs served in a Tsykyne Mizore sauce. The radish was OK, the meatballs delish, as were the fried chicken wings, 3 in all, spicy with a zing of spice to them. The roasted Ginko nuts were served beautifully on a bed of salt. I'd never tried them before; I don't think I'd like them anywhere. The taste and texture was odd. It looked like a miniature, yellow grape that had the skin of a fruit but the interior of a soggy nut.

Which one? Queen Mary, Ritz Carlton, Getty,Warehouse,Shanghai Reds for brunch?
I recommend the brunch at the Four Seasons. They have a great spread. a few years ago I went to the Ritz and it was good. Getty is always beautiful.
Dinner in Redondo
I'll be in the Redondo Beach on Thursday and would love to go to have great dinner. What are your favorites in the area? It can be either cheap or expensive, good food is the main criteria. Thanks in advance.
Just moved from NYC to LA...need help!
West Hollywood, Firfax Palr/La Brea area or Westwood. Westwood if you will be going to the West side more often. I lived there for years and loved it.
Best Cheap Appetizers Available In L.A. Area for Large Fundraiser?
Trader Joes and Costco are great for these things. Another suggestion: call restaurants or gourmet stores and have them donate appetizers.
Getty Restaurant for dinner?
The Getty is delish for dinner, although you don't get the great view that is available in the afternoon.
lunch near Natural History Museum?
City Kitchen on Figeroa is great for lunch. They have a delish Citrus Salad with romaine, chicken, toasted nuts, and manchego.
weekend in LA: how's this itinerary?
I'd skip Lucques and go to AOC or Angelini instead.
Another take on 8 oz - lots of potential here
I like the vibe of the place. Tried 2 burgers, they were ok. I prefer the Village Idiot.
Fun, Kitschy, Quirky in/near Hwd for my B-day Tuesday?
ChoSun Galbee on Olympic is a great place for a party, been to a couple there myself They have tons of tiny dishes and fun Korean BBQ.
Need CHEESE!!!
Cheese, one of my favorite foods. The Cheese Store of Beverly Hills is really the place for the largest selection. Besides that, Jenny at Wally's Wine on Westwood Blvd. has a decent selection and really knows her cheese. Joan's on Third has a nice selection. Trader Joe's is another great resource.
Awesome food... wearing jeans?
You can wear jeans anywhere in LA. Ralph Lauren even wears jeans with a tux.
Restaurant ideas for a Chicago hound?
I recommend Providence, Sona, and Angelini, although price points might be a bit high. Malibu Seafood is a fun, casual place for lunch and a great day trip. Also check out Palihouse.
Dessert & Drinks on the Westside
For our second date I took my husband to JAR for dessert. I knew he would love their chocolate pudding as much as I do. It turns out his fave is the butterscotch pudding.
Take out or private chef
I vote for a private chef. Go to Cook's Library on 3rd street and see their bulletin board. There are a ton of private chef's cards there. You can also call. They are very helpful.
