Possible Wegmans (I doubt it though)
#1 choice would be Gourmet Again
BEST CHAIN CHEESESTEAKS?
I LOVE Jersey Mikes. Wish they friggin' build one already in Maryland. I used to live in Virginia and go get one there as often as possible. They use Boars Head meat (Top Quality). Slice it Fresh (the steak) in front of you, and its delicious. Blows places like Jerry's Subs and Subway out of the water. It's by far my favorite chain Cheesesteak place. I am still mad/sad they are not in MD already yet seem to be everywhere else, even as far as California :(
Who has the best convenience store coffee/hot chocolate/food selection?
Wawa is definetly #1, if not them than Sheetz, than sadly mostly around here in Baltimore we just have gross Royal Farms. Wawa is not quite as widespread. But I agree with others; Wawa is #1 for their coffee/drinks (and subs off-topic I know but hey)
Putting money in tip jar, but server has turned away
Makes me think of like when I go to sit-down restaurant, how I ALWAYS hand deliver my bill WITH the TIP inside of it (I always pay cash; CC to unpredictable with fees) before I leave. It doesn't bother me If I have to sit in my booth for another minute if the waitress is in the kitchen dealing with something; I know she will be back out to deal with table next to me or for something and I can HAND-DELIVER her TIP (as well the bill). Makes me feel so much better.
New Trader Joe's yea/nay thread
The Apple Cider was very good here in Baltimore, MD. For unpasteurized Apple Cider I thought it was pretty good. Appley-ly and sweet. No Zeiglers crap. Maybe you got a bad batch Alk? I asked the Trader Jo Ho Sample Lady to try some before I bought a Half Gallon and it was great, so in my buggy it went.
New Trader Joe's yea/nay thread
Speaking of cheese, the 4 Cheese pizzas, they are still pretty good aren't they? I notice they have a few varieties now, of the cheese kind that is. I am not talking the weird Spinach Avocado Vegetable mess. But there is like 4-Cheese and I thought I saw a 3 Cheese. It's the 4 Cheese one everybody loves, right? :)
Trader Joe's Holiday Items. What are you looking forward to? [old]
This "junk" is OK to freeze too I heard if wrapped well. And if you don't have cheap Freezer, but one that keeps products VERY, VERY COLD/FROZEN (Like a Sub-Zero).
I heard if you get the Extra Heavy Duty Reynolds Wrap and do a few wraps, followed by a Ziploc Freezer Bag, and put it in a nice glass container that seals VERY well, you can have some Dark Choc. Sea Salt Caramels, P. Bark, Choc. Covered JoJos, and a few other things for a few months throughout next year...Just some kind advice :)
Thanksgiving Day breakfast?
Sleep, I need the energy for the feast of Turkey and Pumpkin Pie later. Oh yea, then come home to a good a movie to let it all digest, some sleep, then maybe some shopping after.
What's the #1 Thing That You Eat and Say, "Wow That REALLY Hit The Spot"?
A really good Juicy Bacon Cheeseburger, cooked Medium on a BBQ Grill with a nice char. Freshly Ground Sirloin or Ground Round. No meat from ECOLI factory or Frozen Patties. With just regular salt and fresh ground black pepper on it before throwing on the grill. And lightly handled while making the patties. And with Cracker Barrel White Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese (or Boars Head Sharp Cheddar, or Cabot Extra Sharp) on top. And a really nice SOFT, squishy kaiser-type hamburger roll fresh from the bakery.
Food textures -- do they ick you out?
Yea same with tomatoes. Absolutely vile any other way except in the form of a smooth sauce as such like on a pizza or spaghtti. I will be the chick you take out on a date and if tomatoes are on my effin salad, yes I will fling those b*tches across the table. And with pizza, I make sure to emphasize very clearly to the waiter/waitress i want SMOOTH tomato sauce and no tomato chunks (like I know Uno Pizza or Macaroni Grill among other places will throw chunks of tomatoes on top their pizzas)...
Buying packaged food with a bite already taken out
Yea thats absolutely gross and incredibly rude. What's more is I don't get why they supposedly sample the product then shut the box up like it never happened?? Are they embarrased about what they are doing or is it a genuine case stealing? Almost as they are trying to be sneaky.
I admit certain stores like like Trader Joes allow and encourage sampling of products, since they are always bringing in new things and they even guarentee your satisfaction of their products.
And I sample things there, but when I neatly open a package, I don't close it back up and put it back on the shelf so it looks brand new. And maybe some unsuspecting customer buys what I opened.
I always leave it out in plain view, and whats more, perhaps others would like to sample as well...
Pre-cooked food at Applebees?
Condi is 100% correct. I also was a BOH cook at the Bees. Yes, everything came in frozen and went straight to our walk-in. Either to the Freezer Part or some stuff was sat out in the non-freezer part to thaw in plastic Cambro containers or Large Metal Bakery Trays. We also thawed some meats in one of our 3 compartment sinks under cold running water. Then another item, like the nacho hamburger meat for the nachos which also came in frozen, we thawed first, then before placing in a metal Cambro pan on the line, we boiled that in a huge vat of water so it would it get hot.
At our Bees though, we however made the Mash Potatoes from scratch. Like a REAL HUMAN Prep Cook in-store peeled, cut, & mashed potatoes that came in bags. Ours were good. I could have eaten those frequently.

Wow, haters. I still stand my ground that it is not a crime or much less wrong to sample the products at TJs before buying. Now, would I open a package I did not intend to buy at regular ol' Giant of course not.
But TJs ENCOURAGES one to sample their variety of constantly changing products :) I went again today and gave the sample lady the choc. covered JoJos to try. Thought they were a new thing for 2009. She handed me a whole cookie. I was impressed, and bought a box. Very good.

T.J.'s would never let this person in the store again if he/she were continually opening up packages and sampling without permission as claimed.
What are you talking about? Everybody does this. It is even written on the TJ's page that they guarantee their products. Why should a person buy a product, waste gas driving home, trying it, having it taste awful, then waste gas driving gas back to the store?
Peppermint Bark sounds good too :)
Trader Joe's Turkeys? [moved from Boston board]
Suspiciously long expiration dates is because of the saline solution they use. AKA Preservative. Try taking a container of Mortons salt and pouring it down your throat. Trader Joes also just had an ECOLI recall, not on Turkeys duh, but still..
Optimal fat content for beef?
95% Lean. Unless your obese or want to be obese. It's all in how you handle and prepare it. If you BBQ burgers and cremate it then yea it will taste dry and like sh*t. And salt & pepper before you put on grill as well. A piece of cheese goes a long way as well..cheese has fat in it you know?
But for making items on the stove spaghetti, sloppy joes, its great.
Trader Joe's Holiday Items. What are you looking forward to? [old]
Hey (And not talking horses here), TJs allows for open and free sampling. I for one did not want to buy the whole aisle of Holiday Selections. I tried a few things new to me, and bought those Sea Salt Caramels, after sampling a couple of course cause they were excellent. I left the box for others to try too :) (Could of bought the Dark Choc. Sea Salt ones too...delicious as well)
Can't wait to be back to try the Pretzels, Shortbread, Peanut Brittle, & Choc. Covered JoJos :)
Freezer Burn
Use a Ziploc Freezer Bag. Freezer Probably was not cold enough either..
White American Cheese - Boars Head or Land O' Lakes
I live in Maryland. I am always at Wegmans or Giant. I don't think I have ever seen it, or at least I have never heard of it. I buy my cheese EXCLUSIVELY at the deli...
Quick question about peanut-butter cookies
Fannie Farmer PB Cookies are the best pants down!
Dinner tonight in Baltimore
Piv's is outstanding. They have everything from a Crab Cake Sandwich to Filet Mignon to House Made Apple Pie. The Chicken Quesadilla is amazing.
Nice size pieces of chicken. Popular choice.
Burgers are tasty. It's is not expensive by any means. Service is great. Booths are comfortable. Although I'd recommend avoiding a Friday or Saturday night cause it is a VERY popular place and their "bar" section gets PACKED and noisy. So if you wish for a more quiet, romantic evening head out on a Tuesday Wednesday or Thursday...
Trader Joe's Holiday Items. What are you looking forward to? [old]
I went to TJ's today. OMG I felt like a kid in a candy shop. I couldn't stop tasting and trying things and deciding what to buy. It was rediculous. I literally just walked down the candy aisle and sampled 3 or 4, maybe 5 different things. It was like lunch almost lol.
The Those Dead Sea Salt Caramels covered in Chocolate, i tried those they were very good and like fattening too I think 11g of fat for 1..wow. And their were some other kind of caramel I picked up a box of those, not chocolate covered though, but its in my pantry now though lol..has like a sea salt too, very good and soft and creamy in a white box. i think what another poster said "sea salt caramels"
Saw the usual P Joe Joes..now they have some new Joe Joes? like Extra Thick kind? I didn't try those, by the time I got to those I was full of the caramels! Are they good eh? Maybe next time I will sample.
Oh I tried some Dark Chocolate Covered Caramel in plastic container..Awful. I spit it out. It was hard as rock and tasteless.
So next time I think I will look for the choc. pretzels and some shortbread ...they are pretty good eh?
And the turkey..it's good? I've always been weary bout meat from TJ's. I mean they did just have an ECOLI recall :/
How long exactly does garlic last?
I throw mine in my darkest and coolest cabinet. If it is sprouting and looking weird than I will usually pitch it. It is not going to make or break me. What is it goign to cost me to buy more, 50 cents lol
Your worst Thanksgiving meal?
My Aunt has Thanksgiving every year. She makes this Broccoli concoction, with this soupy consistency milk or cream, don't ask me for as I wouldn't touch broccoli with a ten foot pole, but for as long as I can remember and I been going, It's been referred to as "fart salad" ...Oh yea and her corn muffins suck too. They have hard pieces of corn in them, you know the kind that get stuck in your poop eh? Turkey is at least edible though, and sweet potatoes are not too shabby if by the time we finally get seated they are still hot. But honestly I could just skip the meal and kill my my Moms Homemade Pumpkin Pie she brings every year...that would be enough for my meal.
Non-drinkers—what do you order?
Wow, I'd have to get water with a lime or lemon wedge as well. Gone are my youthful days. I have Crohns/Colitis. No alky or fizzy pop here. Or acidy orange juice, pineapple mango whatnot. I mean I do need to get out of the man cave every once in awhile so water it is I reckon..so much for the comments from the peanut gallery "oh why aren't you drinking.."
