Brook Green Gardens [Myrtle Beach SC]

Thanks for the help. I'll check out the food on the grounds. That hadn't occurred to me. If she wants fried seafood, we'll head to Russell's. Happy Holidays!

Brook Green Gardens [Myrtle Beach SC]

Taking mom to Night of a Thousand Candles, but my favorite seafood restaurant is closed for the season (Lee's IK). Any suggestions for beachy ambiance and great seafood? Please don't say Capt. Dave's...disappointment every time! Thanks for any help.

Pawleys Island Recs

I bought the best tomato of my life, homegrown heirloom, a couple of years ago at a little stand set up in front of a little shopping strip. I can't remember the name of the strip, but it was across the street from close to where Pawley's Wine Shop and a mexican restaurant are located. With bread from Kudzu and a little Duke's, it was transcending.

I've never eaten at a raw bar. Is everything literally raw? I love barely steamed oysters but haven't ever worked up the nerve to try raw. What do you recommend at Pawley's Raw Bar? Thanks so much for your help. It's so nice to converse with a local. My husband and I have been going to Pawley's for vacation for 25 years now. Our 25th anniversary is on this trip and I would love a special evening. Frank's Outback is in mind or possibly Gulf Stream Marina, but I haven't been to GSM in years. It seems I remember the spectacular sunset more than the food. Any news on that front? By the way, I live in Florence and make it to the beach 3 to 4 times a year. Again, thank you.

I'm heading back to Pawleys for vacation in a few weeks. What's changed since this time last year? Openings, closings and the latest greatest please! Thanks.

Anything New in Pawleys/Murrells Inlet Area

Thanks. Russell's sounds like my kind of place. Do you know anything about the restaurant that went in the old Louis' at the Hammock Shops last summer? I don't know the name so am unable to research.

Thanks for any updates!

Dinner in Conway

I have to go to Conway this evening and had planned on going to Rivertown Bistro (love it!), but it is closed on Mondays. Any suggestions? Seafood and a nice glass of wine are on the top of the list, but as long as it's not a chain and is good and fresh, I'm in! Thanks.

4 Nights in Vegas - Too Many Choices - Help!

With the myriad of posts on Vegas and all the restaurant choices, it can get so confusing! I rarely get this opportunity so I don't want to blow a night. What is the latest and greatest? I'm an adventurous eater but my husband is a meat, potatoes and seafood guy, so we need help with places where we can both be happy. We plan on 2 higher end evenings and 2 not so much. And any lunch recs are more than welcome! Will be on the north end of the strip, Wynn Encore. Thanks.

Lastest & Greatest in Pawleys Island/Murrells Inlet Restaurants

Thanks guys! It was a wonderful week full of good food! Saltwater Creek and Chive Blossom were to die for. I could have cried in my plate! All of the old standbys were really good as well. Again, thanks!

Lastest & Greatest in Pawleys Island/Murrells Inlet Restaurants

It's time again for our annual trip to Litchfield Beach. Can anyone give me the closings/openings/best at the moment & places to avoid? We mostly like good seafood but usually have one "fine dining" night. Haven't been to Gulfstream Cafe in years...recommended?

Adapting Marcella Hazan's Lemon Roasted Chicken?

I agree. Marcella's recipe is perfection in its simplicity...and the presentation of the beautifully roasted chicken is outstanding.

Who's having a royal wedding watch/foodie party?

I'm invited to a party at 4 AM where scones and tea will be served. After the vows, champagne will flow. I don't think I'll be making it to a 4 AM party. If champagne were offered upon arrival, we'll maybe....

Make Ahead Food for Cinco de Mayo Party

I've been asked to bring a side dish and a dessert for a Cinco de Mayo party and I'm at a loss as to what to bring. I'll be working that day so it must be make ahead. I would like it to be as authentically Mexican as possible. Tortilla soup, enchiladas and avocado dishes are being brought by others. I could really use some help here...any ideas?

What's the best Osso Bucco recipe??

Very little actually. Maybe I should start with a "practice" cut.

What's the best Osso Bucco recipe??

I had the best Osso Bucco I've ever had at Il Mulino Italian Restaurant in Atlanta and want to try to cook it at home. I've poured over recipes but can't decide which is best. Some have a tomato base, some do not. Veal shank is very pricey, so I don't want less than excellent. Any suggestions would be most helpful!

Latest on Downtown Restaurants (near the Ritz)

I'll be in Atlanta this weekend for our annual Merchandise Mart buying trip and would like to know the latest & greatest within walking distance of the Ritz. We always go to Atlanta Grill for one evening because of the beautiful dining balcony, but the food is mediocre at the best. We try to avoid chains unless they're really top notch, but in the past it's been a little hard to do because of the lack of options. (No asian food please.) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...and we really love a great atmosphere!

Litchfield Beach area - where to eat?

Oh...and River City Cafe is a hand-pattied burger joint with all manner of curiosities on the walls. Very laid back and great for kids. The burgers are far above any chain restaurant.

Litchfield Beach area - where to eat?

I just got back from Litchfield a couple of weeks ago for our annual weekly stay. We've been going for over 20 years and love everything about it.

For fried seafood, Lee's Inlet Kitchen can't be beat. All of the seafood is local and fresh. If you like soft shell crab, they have a fried soft shell crab appetizer that is excellent, and it's fresh. Everywhere else that I asked had frozen crab.

Wahoo's is also very good and the atmosphere is excellent. They serve a strawberry butter with the bread that is to die for. It's the outdoor part of the Devine Seafood House Restaurant. Under the tiki hut is a bar atmosphere, but there are additional tables on varying levels overlooking the inlet. The kids would love that. There is a small island with goats & various waterfowl within site of the tables.

Litchfield Beach Fish House is family oriented (box of small toys as gifts for the kids) and usually pretty good, but over the years at times it has been "off". It's very laid back and "beachy".

Bovine's Steakhouse was excellent this year. Their steaks are cooked over an open wood fire and served with an excellent corn pudding side. It is next to Wahoo's and also overlooks the marsh. Again, outdoor dining is an option kids might enjoy.

Bistro 217 is really good and has lots of food options. The crabcake sandwich is excellent and the outdoor dining is beautiful.

LGD is right...Frank's is worth making arrangements for date night. But I enjoy their outdoor dining (Frank's Outback). It's beautifully landscaped with varying levels of seating and white lights in the shrubbery and trees. My description doesn't do it justice, but it's magical.

Hope this helps.

Murrells Inlets/Litchfield/Pawleys Recs

I'll be in the area next week and need any recommendations for new restaurants and updates on old places that are still worth visiting. We love seafood mostly, but are always interested in a good steak, etc. by the end of the week.

The Hardest Things to Cook Thread

Focaccia! Sounds easy I know, but mine always turns out hard or dry. The worst thing is the dough smells heavenly while rising, only to hugely dissapoint. I've tried several recipes and finally decided to give up.

Moving Citrus Outdoors

Thanks jen. My Meyer Lemon looks so beautiful in the house (about 12 hours of good sun a day...South Carolina) that I hate to move it outside. But within the last few weeks, it's started dropping a few yellow leaves and I see no indication of new growth. I've also lost all but 8 fruits, but I understand that may be normal for a small tree. Otherwise it looks quite healthy. Perhaps being indoors is the problem. I also should probably re-pot before moving.

About the fruit drop, should I clip back a little where the fruit was or leave the stem as is? Thanks.
