Chinese Crispy Chicken dish
I am looking for a chinese dish we used to get at Sun Garden in Salem, It was called House Special Crispy Chicken. It was thin sliced fried chicken with pea pods in a light colored sauce with garlic and I think ginger. They have changed owners and names (it's now Sushi Garden) and while it's still listed on the menu, it's not the same, when we ordered it we thought they gave us general gao instead, its was in the thick brown sauce. Does anyone know of a place that has something similar? North shore prefered, but willing to travel for it!

I just got and email from The Lyceum in Salem saying they are closing July 31. The owner is retiring.
It says another restaurant will be opening in the space in August, but no details on the new place.
June 2011 Openings and Closings
Neither of these are very chowish, but they are opening and closings!
Buffalo Wild Wings opened on Saturday at the Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers.
Also Saturday. Bostonville Grille on Rt. 1 in Lynnfield closed.

Special Occasion lunch North Shore
Tomorrow is my anniversary. We would normally go out to dinner somewhere, but the Bruins have put a crimp in our plans ( Go Bruins!!). I'm looking for a nice place to go to lunch on the North Shore. A lot of the places we were considering for dinner are not open for lunch (62, 9 Elm). Any suggestions?
Happy hour food on Rt 1
Thanks. I am aware that a true "happy hour" is illegal in MA, I was just looking for cheap apps/food during those hours. Do all the places you listed have actual 3-7 ( or whatever time) specials? Or are you just listing places you think are half decent?
Happy hour food on Rt 1
Hi,
does anyone know of anyplace on Route 1 north of Boston (Saugus to Peabody) that does cheap eats for happy hour? Either side of route 1 is fine.
thanks,
Cathleen
Greenland Cafe ??
We really like it. Great tapas and a good beer selection (which my husband the beer snob appreciates) Good wine and drink selection as well, although I find the cocktails a little expensive.

nice restaurant, overlooking water, North Shore-ish?
You probably mean Capts. Great food and view. If you're going Friday they have a prix fixe that looks pretty good.

August Openings and Closings
Adriatic in Salem opened this week. We stopped in on Monday night, which we were told was their first night open. The service was really slow, but like I said it was the first night, so I'm reserving judgement until I go back again. We tried a few of the apps (friends of ours were already there when we arrived and shared), and everything we tried was good.
North Shore Italian - Need Suggestions
Bella Verona is Salem is excellent, next to the Hawthorne Hotel. They also have a sister restaurant in Beverly Trattoria Bella Mia. In Gloucester, La Trattoria & Pizzeria on Main Street is also one of our favorites.

Porto Bello in Wakefield
I went there last night with my husband and in-laws. Everyone loved it. We started with the eggplant rollatini and it was so good I could have eaten it all myself! I had seafood canneloni which was delicious, my husband got a surf and turf special and we couldn't get over the size of the steak, it was huge. I don't remember specifically what the others had, but my father in law cleaned his plate, which he doesn't normally do.
I didn't think the service was slow. We were a party of 4 and arrived around 7 and left at 8:30. Maybe the slow service is just on weekends? I will definately go back.
Seafood in Salem?
I have to disagree about Capts. I have never had a bad meal there. Also, I have always heard good things about In a Pigs Eye. I haven't been in a while, but the times I have been have been good.
Buffalo Wild Wings aka BW3
I'm guessing no, the Salem News article said they deal fell through and the liquor license reverted back to the old address. I think if they planned to open elsewhere in Danvers they would have held on to the license.
Winter 2009-2010 Openings and Closings
According to the Salem News a new restataunt is going into the old Edgewater Cafe location. " Adriatic Restaurant and Bar, which will offer a mix of Italian and European food." It says it will be open in "a few months"

Buffalo Wild Wings aka BW3
More info from today's Salem News. It is going into the old "Boaters World" in the same plaza as Micheals craft store.

Salem MA Area
How long has this place been open? I remember going there years ago when it was Love Noodle and again when it was T's. I didn't think anything was there anymore. It sound like it might be the same owner, since they had a mention of 'Love noodle" on the menu.
Wild Horse - AWFUL SERVICE
Also, from what I can tell, they were already doing you a favor by letting you order from the bar menu (with a party of 7 I assume you were in the dining room). They don't usually allow that.
Al Fresco Dining on the North Shore
I had a nice lunch recently at the Seaport Grille at the Gloucester Cruiseport.
Also there are plenty in Salem, Finz, Capts, Victoria Station, Grapevine (has small courtyard, I've never eaten out there, but I hear it's nicer than you'd think), Beerworks, Lobster Shanty, Rockafella's, Edgewater and probably the new place that's going in at the old Roosevelts (irish pub, Murphy's maybe?)
Haverhill - Keon's or Evenfall
Thanks all. We ended up at Evenfall and with the exception of a green waitress (she brought me steak when I ordered lamb, she apparently didn't know the difference, and she brought me pink wine when I ordered Zinfandel, yuck) we really enjoyed it. The food was great and it had a funky cool vibe. We especially enjoyed the rib appetizer. We will probably be back, so thanks again for the recs!
Haverhill - Keon's or Evenfall
Thanks, I'll try to make a reservation if that's where we end up. It pretty small isn't it ?
Haverhill - Keon's or Evenfall
My husband and I are going out for our anniversary on Thursday and we're trying to decide between these two. I've read good thing about both, but nothing very recent. Can anyone recommend one or the other? Thanks!
Dinner before Show at Peabody Essex
I like the Lyceum or Nathaniels at the Hawthorne Hotel.
LUCCIANO'S - DANVERS,MA.
I'm bummed out if this is true! I really like this restaurant. I noticed that their website has been down. Are they currently closed? Any info is appreciated!
