Large Curd Cottage Cheese?
THANKS EVERYONE!
I finally found it at Stater Bros. It's funny because I'd been on the hunt for the large curd for over 2 months and got so worked up over it. When I finally found the large curd and tried it (I'd only ever had small curd) I was expecting the heavens to part and the angels to start to sing, BUT, it was pretty much tasted just like small curd except just a bit bigger. Oh well, I guess that's what happens when one builds up this huge expectation level. hahaha
Large Curd Cottage Cheese?
I've checked all those places and not to be found anywhere!
Large Curd Cottage Cheese?
I can't seem to find Large Curd anywhere....I've gone to Costco, Trader Joe's, Smart & Final, Mother's Market, Whole Foods Market, and even a local farmers market type grocery store and no such luck.
Does anyone know where Large Curd cottage cheese can be found in the LA/OC area?
Any place in Orange County to buy injera?
I know I can get it by going to Little Ethiopia on Fairfax in Los Angeles, but that's quite a hike. I'm wondering if there's anywhere in Orange County where I can buy injera?
Shanghai Noodle dish with greens?
Here's another picture of Nian Gao I've found....not quite the same dish I had at J & J Restaurant, but the 'noodles' (I guess they call them 'rice cake') look the same!

Shanghai Noodle dish with greens?
Oh! That does look it it. When I looked at the Shanghai Cuisine description and picture I realized that I had only seen Nian Gao as a sweet dish, but this indicates it also is made in a savory version. My apologies for jumping the gun.
Thanks for your help!
Shanghai Noodle dish with greens?
I looked up nian gao on google and it didn't seem to match. The consistency and taste of the noodle in the dish I'm describing was a bit like an al dente chow fun but cut into oblong disks.
Shanghai Noodle dish with greens?
I just ate at J & J Restaurant (a Shanghai style place) in San Gabriel, CA to try their xiao long bao (soupy dumplings) for the first time. They were delicious by the way.
However, we also ordered some sort of rice noodle dish with greens. The rice noodles were large, flat, and semi-round (think the size of a oblong silver dollar). Here's a picture of them: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/3Uf2UygnB-pcskEbwsRvTA?select=NZ8Y3enNsBwAEQHIxEQoaQ
I'm wondering what is this dish or noodle called? Thanks!
Best Monday Night Football Happy Hours in Orange County?
Most places have happy hour during the entire time the Monday Night Football game is on. What are some of your favorite Monday Night Football Happy Hour places in ORANGE COUNTY, preferably South Orange County.
My favorite used to be Black Angus, where they had 1/2 price wings and 1/2 price beer/wine during the entire game. But, the switch to the newer menu has taken wings off the menu.
Paul's Kitchen.....Anyone???
Joe Woo's Chinese Kitchen on Lankershim! That was my family's place. It certainly was one of the 'old-school' Chinese restaurants. Joe Woo's was the very first take-out Chinese restaurant in the San Fernando Valley. I believe there were a couple of other Chinese restaurants in the Valley first, but Joe Woo's was the first Take-Out. I remember that on weekends the wait to get a table could be up to 2 hours. It's funny because one of the more popular mainstream Chinese restaurants now is PF Changs which is so clean, so crisp.....exactly opposite of our very family, cozy restaurant.
It's rare to find the things we used to offer...egg foo young, paper wrapped chicken, almond (pressed) duck, Chicago style chop suey, moo goo gai pan, and many more Americanized Cantonese dishes. Those were such fun times!
Korean Fried Chicken in South OC?
Just tried the Kyochon Chicken and their delicious wings yesterday when I ventured to their Stanton store. AMAZING!!!
Now, I'm hooked on the Korean style fried chicken. What other places in South OC make chicken like this? It doesn't have to be exactly like it, but close enough would be fine. And I'm not looking for the American or Southern style traditional fried chicken where there's a batter crust. The Korean fried chicken was pretty much without a batter but still crunchy as could be.
I know there's a HK Market (a Korean market) on Red Hill in Tustin...do any of their fast food restaurants make Korean fried chicken?
Kyochon - Korean fried chicken
Oh my gosh! After reading so many posts about Kyochon (both good and bad), I had to try it myself. It was a bit out of the way (I went to the one in Stanton...I live in Dana Point). I ordered the 20 piece wings. Half original and half spicy. I was by myself so I knew I'd take half of them home. However, as soon as my order was up I decided to eat them right there in the food court.
Well.....the heavens parted and the angels sang and I heard harps playing!!!!!! It was a darn near spiritual experience for me. WOW they were so dang GOOD!!!!
Now, I love buffalo wings to begin with. WingNuts in Costa Mesa and Aliso Viejo has been my favorite wing place.......up until now. These Kyochon wings were so amazing. Yes, they were expensive but I haven't tasted anything like them. Kinda like crack, or sorta like eating a Krispy Kreme donut that just came out of the fryer! They're so addictive.
I'll definitely be back for some more of this 'Crack' wings!
Sandwich Contest
1) Bay Cities- Prosciutto di Parma with fresh Buffala Mozzerella, tomatoes, basil and balsamic vinegar. Their bread is stupendous.
2) Art's Deli- Corned Beef on Rye
3) The Hat- Pastrami dip sandwich--double dipped in au jus
Buffets in OC?
Besides the typical Chinese, Indian, Mexican, Sushi, even Persian buffets are there any of the following buffets in OC:
1) Thai
2) Vietnamese
3) Filipino
Saturday brunch buffet in Orange County (OC)?
Does anyone know of a place that has a brunch buffet on Satuday in Orange County? How about the Long Beach area? Preferably a champagne brunch.
Thanks!
Red Lion Tavern
I like Red Lion for their outside beer garden. Their food is moderate at best. However, I do like the mug of split pea soup with a frankfurter sticking out of it. Weird concept but tasty nevertheless.
Does anyone have a recipe for the garlic marinade from Versailles Cuban restaurant (Los Angeles area)?
They call it the "Versailles Mojo". It's basically a citrusy garlic marinade sauce. If not the exact recipe, an approximate version would be fine.
Here's the restaurant's link: http://versaillescuban.com/
wine bar in Dana Point?
Yes. It's called Purple Feet--24582 Del Prado Avenue, Suite A, Dana Point.

Great little place. Hip and fun. Great place for a date.
What's the difference in champagne brunches between El Torito and El Torito Grill?
For what it is and the price (and who am I kidding....the all-you-can-drink CHAMPAGNE---hahaha) I like the Sunday champagne brunch at the regular El Torito Mexican restaurants.
How is the El Torito Grill champagne brunch different? I know most El Torito Grills seem to have a slightly more sophisticated, upscale (not by too much though) menu in general. Does this translate to their brunch also?
What's your favorite Pho toppings?
When I originally started eating pho I did the basic beginner/newbie pho with sliced rare steak (Pho Tai).
I presently like pho with well-done flank & well-done brisket.
I can't seem to be adventurous enough to get the tripe or tendon yet.
What are people's favorite renditions of pho? Also is there such thing as flank or brisket that isn't 'well-done'?
Need some restaurant suggestions while I'm in Dupont Circle?
I'll be staying at the Hilton Washington (1919 Connecticut, NW).
I'm looking for suggestions for the following restaurants:
1) a place with good Pho
2) a good lunchtime Indian buffet
3) Ethiopian
4) good Thai
I'd prefer more the authentic neighborhood/ethnic less fancy places rather than the overpriced, dolled-up places.
Thanks for your suggestions!
sooo, I have some garlic naan from TJ's...
I usually add a little bit of TJ Pesto and some TJ grated Romano cheese. Bake it for about 15-20 minutes and you'll have super tasty bread to accompany pasta
Looking for SLIDERS (mini-hamburgers) fast food in LA/OC?
Is there any fast food place (I know sit-down places, such as Claimjumpers or the various sportsbars carry them) similar to White Castle or Krystal that make these greasy little concoctions of soggy bun and steamed meat?
I'm a big In-N-Out fan already so no need to preach to the choir about the virtues of In-N-Out (or Tommy's, etc). But every so often I get the hunkering for these little grease bombs aka 'sliders'.
TK Noodle-like and Vietnamese delis in L.A.?
I suppose a somewhat close variation of TK Noodles signature noodle soup might be at Sanamluang Café (in Hollywood's Thai Town and also North Hollywood). Their General’s noodle soup: thin, garlicky egg noodles garnished with bits of duck, barbecued pork, crumbles of ground pork and a couple of shrimp, submerged in a clean, clear broth. A bit more expensive but pretty satisfying.
Marie Callender / Claim Jumper recipe?
This would seem pretty easy to find but I haven't been able to track one down anywhere on the web.
I'm looking for the recipe for chunky tomato dressing that is available at either one of these chains.
Do you have a favorite non-chain ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT place?
I don't know if it's there anymore but there used to be a Sri Lankan lunch buffet on Ventura Blvd in Tarzana. I think it was $4.99 all you can eat. Just several entrees but very good and VERY fiery. I believe it was called Curry Bowl.
Any noodle houses like the SF Bay Area's New Tung Kee Noodle House in the L.A. area?
For those who've lived in the San Fran south bay area and have enjoyed the New Tung Kee Noodle House....are there any similar to them in the Los Angeles area?
