Posh - Scottsdale

Posh is off the hook. I ate there and at Binkley's last week. Two of the best restaurants I've been to traveling to 20+ states in the past couple of years. The vibes are completely different at each place. But there's something very similar in the way the owner-chefs at each place go about crafting their dishes. Unagi pannacotta at Posh: are you kidding me?? We chatted wine with Josh the chef. He knows what he's talking about on that subject, as well.
Dining at both places in two days - very decadent. But these experiences are part of what enjoying food is all about. I felt blessed. Can't wait to go back (though not between June & September!)

Thai food in (city of) Napa?

Thanks, Melanie. We ended up at Thai House on Trancas - we were craving it desperately. Good food, nothing mind-blowing. Had a Franken riesling (in a bocksbeutel, another thing I was craving), but it was corked. Heading back to K&L the next time I'm in SF...

This Malaysian place sounds very interesting & worth a try, for sure.

Thai food in (city of) Napa?

Anyone know of or have a favorite Thai restaurant in the city of Napa? Preferably for takeout?

Steak Frites

I second that; Bouchon is excellent. One hour's dive from GG Bridge.

Worth pointing out that there are five Bay Area Left Bank Restaurants:
San Jose (Santana Row); Pleasant Hill; Menlo Park; San Mateo; and Larkspur (the original).

All do very consistent meat & potatoes.

"In-N-Out" and "o.k." don't go in the same sentence, my dear.

Dining at Meadowood Resort, St. Helena?

Can anyone chime in on a recent dinner at Meadowood? We're planning to go there in June for dinner with friends from out of town (they're staying at the hotel). I'm very familiar with other St Helena/Napa Valley dining options, but MW is a question mark.

BYOB at Gary Danko?

If you bring a '91 Palmer to Gary Danko, the sommelier(s) will probably hope to taste it (before they toss you out for not bringing a '90).

Burger joint? Try Burger Joint on Valencia St. or Haight St.

Carmel-by-the-Sea restaurant, anyone?

thank you! they're going to Bouchee and looking forward to it.

Carmel-by-the-Sea restaurant, anyone?

Help, please.

I need a restaurant recommendation for my wife + 8 friends in Carmel-by-the-Sea for a Saturday night dinner.

I'm familiar with l'Auberge and Anton & Michel, both of which are too formal for this occasion.

- Bouchee?
- The Grill on Ocean Ave?
- Grasing's?

Any others places CHers have been to and enjoyed?

Thanks.

Indian Restaurants in Santa Rosa?

Hi Melanie,

The Indian restaurant post - and I - are both alive! Trader Joe's in Napa has delicious packaged Indian dishes (shipped from India; no artificial ingredients). We tried three the other night. If I can dig the boxes out of the recycling, I'll let you know what they were. One was spinach with cubes of soft cheese. It had a nice afterburn.

We went to Indian Oven on Fillmore several weeks ago with friends and weren't blown away - nor were we disappointed. They gave us a high chair for our duaghter, were very friendly, and the food was fresh and enjoyable. I ordered the Sula chenin. It went over like a lead zeppelin. No body, no varietal character, no acid, no fun... it tasted like the delivery might have been left on the sidewalk for a couple of hours on a warm day. (Nothing against the restaurant, or the winery)

Conversely, last night we had an '05 Pichot Vouvray. Delicious.

Thanks Melanie. I'm leaning towards Kabab & Curry (I'm curious about the Sula chenin blanc...)

I'll post a follow-up tomorrow, wherever we end up.
