Santa Barbara Spot Prawns
Great Santa Barbara Spot prawn dish at 1540 in Del Mar ! The ultra fresh prawns were cooked/ baked in salt at 500 degrees. They come to the table mounded under the heated salt. Then you peel...dip and eat. Our group is still talking about that dish. Very cool and "hands on".
report re Linn's Easy As Pie Cafe in Cambria
My wife and I made a quick road trip sojourn up to Santa Cruz from San Diego and then back for the weekend. We made a side trip to Cambria to Linn's Easy As Pie Cafe. What a great spot. The sun was out and we took our seat in a garden out in the back of the restaurant. I had the meatloaf and my wife had the chicken pot pie. Both were outstanding!! Each was served with mash potatoes and a slice of bread. Both of these dishes had that "home made" feel and taste.
We then split a slice of olalliberry pie. An olalliberry is a hybrid berry perfect for a pie served warm with Ice cream.
A picture perfect stop.
Onion Ring Love...your fave's in SD?

Fresh sardines
Georges Modern in La Jolla has fresh live sardines on the menu. They normally grill them. Its always a "must-have" when we go.
Chef Celebration Dinner at Kitchen 1540
We likewise made to the Celebration. The food overall was quite good. The Snake River Farms wagyu tri tip birch, fiddlehead ferns, morels, black garlic, foie gras hollandaise (Paul McCabe) was a standout!
Also" the Things to do in spring….types, textures, temperatures "(Anthony Sinsay) was alot of fun. This was a dish ala Alinea.
The service though was a bit spotty. We opted for the wine pairing. I had 2 glasses that were still warm from the dishwasher. Then the waitress forgot to pour the last wine which was a spanish sparkling to pair with the dessert. One waiter dropped a dish and it splattered on my wife. He saw it and just kept walking.
We chalked it up to poor training.
OVERALL: Fun ,creative food.... but the service needs a tuning.
Food trucks in SD...where are they?
Today, there was a truck with a long line out by the old first national bank building on ash street, downtown. The korean tacos looked very tasty.

Seafood Shacks..do they exist in SD?
We like in North County Auggies house of Crab. No fuss and fun shellfish served on the table with corn ,sausage and mallets. Add a big glass of Stone pale ale and start whacking away.

SDRW - Pampelmousse Blah!
We feel lucky now that Pampelmousse never returned our call for SDRW. Que Lastima !
SDRW at Jacks In La Jolla = Wow :)
Our group of four ate at Jack's "high end" place last night. The food and service was First Class.
We brought a 1986 Caymus select with us. The hands on favorite Starter was the porchini salad with Fore gras. Main course was the lobster.
We dined for close to two and half hours and our waitress brought over some vintage port gratis to go with dessert. Not bad for $40 a head.
We will be back :)
Any place in San Diego to buy fresh white truffles?

La Bonne Boufe in Encintas?
We have been there twice. Alot of attitude. We thought the first time was a lark. Nope!
My wife and I were both born in Switzerland ( the French part ). It did not help. Food was OK.
Solana Beach: Black Horse Grille Becoming Market Restaurant
This is our "new" favorite in town. Chef Carl Schroeder was the chef who left Arterra to open this new place. The cusine and staff are all first class.
Try it!!!
Superb Meal at Carl Schroeder's Black Horse Grille-San Diego
We ate there again yesterday. Again a great meal. We went at 8:00. The place was jumping so we went to the bar for a brief wait and drink. Once seated we tried some new menu items.
Stand outs were : Carl's Leek soup, Pork 3 ways and the sweet bites for dessert. Had very attentative service with Jovanni.
Yup we will be back :)
