Pardes

I have read your comments in the past, so please don't think this is aimed at you, other than this comment has give me a chance to speak about a pet peeve. . I have not been to Pardes, but I have been to Mike's. My comment is how kosher diners always seem to comment on how small the portions are in restaurants. I have been to "regular" restaurants, since I eat dairy out, and let me assure you that portions in those places tend to be smaller than any kosher restaurant.
I know that when he opened Mike's portions were smaller, but he made them larger. Some demand quality, some quantity. Most people understand that restaurants are beginning to copy European restaurants where the portions are smaller while quality and presentation are the focus.

Pardes (and other) 9-days menus

Perhaps you discovered something amazing. Perhaps you do not hate fish, just how the fish was prepared for you previously.
Fish, when well cooked correctly,
can be amazing, as Moshe has now shown you. Try it again, you might be surprised.

why im aggravated at the kosher restaurant world

I do not disagree with you at all. I have commented a number of times about people who wanted to order off the menu, and for a cheaper price.
My argument, in a place like New York, are the restaurants that believe service doesn't matter.
There are many restaurants where the service is good, but still some where the waiters are doing you a favor. Where the management feels entitled to treat you badly.
In turn there are restaurants where strollers should not be allowed. Other diners do not find crying children cute. Children running around and banging chairs are not right.
Is this a problem only in kosher places? No. Yet as a person who has eaten in non-kosher restaurants there seems to be an epidemic of young frum people who act badly towards staff and other diners that you don't see in other restaurants.

why im aggravated at the kosher restaurant world

Some restaurants are better at some things and some at others. Often it is the fault of the customers. They want unseasoned beef. It reminds them of the way their mothers cooked. I would suggest that you order what you like.
I have been to kosher restaurants where I have had to argue (ok urge) that my supposedly spicy dish actually be spicy. The restaurant's diners obviously didn't like spicy.
As to service, a whole different view. Many kosher restaurants believe that service is not necessary. They have not taught their wait staff anything. I have stopped going to a number of these restaurants. We should not stand for bad food nor bad service.

Kosher BBQ Delivered...Limited Time!

Too late. I had it on Shabbat, using sauce, but not too much. It was great.
I am looking forward to your return. My family had your BBQ in Riverdale and loved it. Not to make you to swell headed, both my daughter and son-inlaw preferred your ribs...My six month old graddaughter is looking forward to eating ribs soon. (but not too soon I guess).

Kosher BBQ Delivered...Limited Time!

Hey gotchulent, or any other maven out there. I know this is less than basic. But does one reheat the brisket using some of the gravy that is included. The instructions say nothing other than to use sauce on the ribs. Unfortunately I know nothing.

Kraft polly-o string cheese

Far be it from me to tell you to waste money. I also like Cappiello. My only disagreement (if we have one) is that there is always a question whether price or quality is the most important. Obviously it depends on the product, and how important it is to you. Since you speak of parmigiano reggiano I know that price is not the major issue on all products. The Cheese guy cheeses are worth a try to those who have not as of yet sampled them.

Kraft polly-o string cheese

When you go to Fairway it might be a good idea to go to the kosher cheese department and try the Cheese guy fresh Mozzarella. It certainly is a better cheese than the major brands such as Kraft.
It is sold in a block. It may cost a little more, but worth it.

Shakshuka

Depending on which hashkacha you accept you can find good shaksuka in many Israeli type restaurants. Both hummus place and soom soom have good versions. Pita is usually included, Israeli salad may be a side order.

If it is nice or not nice is not the point. A restaurant has the right to follow its own culinary and business decisions. Diners will vote with their feet to come or not.
We have been down this path too many times in this discussion.
I understand Shagege will not be a customer. I understand that gotchulent likes the place. I certainly understand the restaurant has no kids menu. The question is how good is the food, and will the restaurant be able to make a go of it on the upper west side.

Bad experience at Estihana (Manhattan)

You have hit one of my pet peeves (sometimes). The addition of a tip for five people or more. I do not know if you can cross out the tip under state law, but I do know that the restaurant will get in an argument with you if you do. That is not my real problem, since I believe the wait staff almost always deserves the tip. My pet peeve is that if you don't look at your bill closely you will not know there was a service charge. If you pay by credit card there is always a "tip" portion on the receipt. If a restaurant is taking a tip they should make it clear, not hope to entrap you into giving an additional tip. Only once do I remember the a line for "additional tip".

I have read the entire conversation. It seems that the restaurant had a grilled chicken sandwich on the menu. You told cheesecake 17 that you would have paid ten dollars for the chicken. If I misunderstood I am sorry. If there was a grilled chicken sandwich available and they refused to serve it withlout the bun shame on them. If you were not willing to pay the cost of the chicken sandwich because you did not need the bun so be it. I don't quite understand, but to me that would be bargaining. Having said that, I was much too harsh in my reply to you. I wish you and your family a
happy Thanksgiving. I wish you and your family many good times in many restaurants.

Although I am tired of this conversation I will make one more comment. My second. This is a restaurant. They have a menu. I can expect them to be nice. I can expect them to be helpful. I can expect them to help serve me if I have allergies etc. What I should not expect is for them to bargain over prices about things on the menu. If your child does not need the bun or anything else on the plate so what? The price is there. Would you do the same at Abigainl's if your husband really didn't want anything but a piece of grilled chicken. Most people would not bargain with the manager/owner/waiter/anyone If you believe that such bargaining is acceptable , I suggest you should eat at home.

I have not yet gone to Amsterdam. However, I don't quite understand what is going on. There is grilled chicken on the menu, but you want something else. I take it you wanted to pay less. This is a small restaurant with a menu. If you think that deli casba or talia' are better for you, go there. If the restaurant doesn't treat you right don't go there. Why is it so upsetting that the manager wants to serve what is on the menu?

Empire Turkeys

Trader Joe has birds at $2.49/lb. They are fresh and under ou supervision. They have been in the store a few days. They have a marked expiration date of 11/24. Perhaps someone can tell me how long fresh turkeys remain fresh after they are schechted

Anyone brined a Kosher turkey?

I don't know if this is an answer since I have never brined a turkey. I was listening on the radio to an interview of a butterball expert talking about brining a turkey. She stated all the virtues of brining, but then said a kosher turkey should never be brined. It sounded like the kashering process would make brining a negative.

What is "the top glatt kosher restaurant in the world"?

I do not think it is the best glatt kosher restaurant, but it is one of a kind. Eating in a Brazilian restaurant is great fun. It is even more fun if you are with a crowd. The food is good. A good time is had by all. It certainly isn't fine dining. It is however, a different experience.
There are other restaurants in Jerusalem, New York and other cities that are "better". As an experience Harold C is most correct. If you have not yet experienced it, and have the chance, you should

Has anyone been to Ladino lately?

I don't comment here often, but I went on a family dinner and had great fun. We followed the waiter's suggestions and had a wonderful experience. Other than a major disappointment with the sangria, everything was good. As to overpriced, yes, but it is kosher. You have to realize when ordering that much of the food is tapas and that is a horse (kosher albeit) of a different color than jezebel, le marais, or noi due.
I don't know which college cafeteria you went to, but I am ready to go.

Latest missive from Chowhound team

I understand your concern for "how kosher it is". Chowhound hasn't stopped anyone from stating whose hashkocha it is under. That is considered information only. The problem is that usually people than want to write how the food is not kosher enough for them. That is not the purpose of the board. We do not have to turn this valuable board into Vois iz neis for food.

Dairy Birthday Cake

I second Fairways market. Go and look at what they have. Their milchig cakes are really good and their prices seem fair. Additionally if you want to go to the Bronx an S & S cheesecake is always a hit. I only suggest going to the bakery, or if closed the store next to it, because you will have unbelievable cheesecake that is truly fresh.

No Dannon for Pesach???????

Like it or not we are a niche market. Most people do not care if something is kosher for passover. They have made a business decision. We will have to live with it. Of course, if Dannon finds that enough people will refuse to buy Dannon after pessach they may change their mind next year. Again that would be a purely business decision
