Washington Heights style cold cuts

A number of years ago it was available in Brooklyn. I think at glatt mart. It tasted really good. Later I thought perhaps it was the memory of the aufschnitt of my youth that caused me to really like the w and s. Check and see who carries it in Brooklyn if that is closer.

Dairy Birthday Cake

I second Fairways market. Go and look at what they have. Their milchig cakes are really good and their prices seem fair. Additionally if you want to go to the Bronx an S & S cheesecake is always a hit. I only suggest going to the bakery, or if closed the store next to it, because you will have unbelievable cheesecake that is truly fresh.

No Dannon for Pesach???????

Like it or not we are a niche market. Most people do not care if something is kosher for passover. They have made a business decision. We will have to live with it. Of course, if Dannon finds that enough people will refuse to buy Dannon after pessach they may change their mind next year. Again that would be a purely business decision

Claire's New Haven

I agree with you completely. There is no anger that these veggie places can't get what many consider a legitimate hechsher since there are other choices. Besides, in New York everybody is busy looking over their right shoulder too make sure nobody can criticize anything they do.

Kosher in Mystic, CT

Perhaps I suggested it because I looked up Luckydog and realized he was in NYC and the natural route passes by New Haven. Perhaps I was just trying to pass on what I thought was a good suggestion. In reality because AdinaA had just posted on Claires. I'm sorry that my post seemed to bother you so much, although I cannot fathom the reason why.

Kosher in Mystic, CT

Read the Claire's New Haven thread. Great food right on the way to Mystic

Claire's New Haven

You are right. The best vegetarian type restaurant anywhere. The food is great. It makes you think you are back in college (even if you went to CCNY). Big college crowd, some 60s leftovers, some in yamulkas, but all having great food.

NYC--Restaurant with Toddler

I did not mean a bash-the children post. I was speaking about common courtesy. I took my daughter out when she was young. Sometimes to "nice places" sometimes to family type places. If anything, I am doing a bash the parent reply. I like children. I like going out with children. What I don't like is children whose parents think that everyone else should enjoy their children when they are not behaving.
My Favorite Food is a good restaurant to go to with children. Most Indian restaurants welcome children (kosher or not). Indians take their children to restaurants. Go anywhere that your level of kashrut is comfortable with.
Take your child out to any restaurant. At some point go beyond the "children's menu. Kids like things other than chicken nuggets if they try them. Just keep in mind that a restaurant is a public place where others are also present. Just as an aside I am not thrilled at any bad behavior in restaurants...adults or children.

NYC--Restaurant with Toddler

I agree it is definitely Ok to go to Talia's. However too many people don't realize that other diners are not thrilled when their children are fussy. It is not cute, nor acceptable. You or your husband should be ready to get up and take the toddler out if they are not behaving. Too many people, especially in kosher restaurants, ignor their childs behavior.
Children should learn from an early age to enjoy restaurants. They should also be taught how to act in one.

New UWS Restaurant

How correct you are, although I doubt that mediocre is the requirement. I went to a wedding where they didn't serve shushi. I asked my cousin, much more frum than I, if I could truly trust a hecscher where they didn't serve sushi.

Why do we stand for it?

I have read the replies with interest. To make my point clear it is incomprehensible to me why we support restaurants that are not good. Like many here I am willing to pay for good food and service. I recognize that kosher restaurants must charge more since they are closed on various days. My point is that we should demand excellence. We should not patronize those restaurants which do not give that to us. I understand that I speak as a person in New York who has choices. We should use those choices by going to restaurants which appeal to us and give us quality,

Why do we stand for it?

Wednesday I went for dinner at Deli Kasbah in Manhattan. The food was ok BUT. When I ordered a turkey sandwich in came wrapped in paper so cold that it was clear that the sandwich had been made earlier and placed in the refrigerator. It seemed to be a take out order placed on a plate.. A small plastic container containing mustard was on the plate. The baked potato that was included was brown inside and out. Why does a Glatt kosher place believe that this is acceptable? I know this is not a fancy restaurant, but when you charge $17.95 for a sandwich it should be served as if it were being eaten in a restaurant rather than a park.
I expect the tvs with the Rebbe, because this is what the place is about. That they are able to remain in business with this type of service is beyond me. I will not be returning, but why do we stand for it?

Bris Locations on the Upper West Side

I don,t understand your statement. Without membership how is the shule going to survive so that it is there when you want to make a Bris or anything else. Like it or not a Shule has to pay for its building, employees etc. DeisCane I invite you to join the Shule of your choice.
As to coco99..Mazal Tov. Talk to your friends in buildings with party rooms, You may be able to rent one at a reasonable price.

Kosher sushi at Costco

With all due respect you forget that to many cost is more important (or atleast as important) as taste. I would prefer an item that tastes better and needs no processing. I am not trying to attack others who view the issue differently.

Cool, to a 13 year old, Manhatten restaurants ????

Cool to a 13 year old. Clubhouse cafe is probably the only kosher restauraurant that is "cool". It should be fun.

kosher certified murray's chickens at fairway-whole chicken $1.79/lb!

Don't be such a sexist. I cooked it myself. However, I certainly await your results.

kosher certified murray's chickens at fairway-whole chicken $1.79/lb!

Had it during Shabbat. It seemed to taste better than other chickens, but I wonder if it is true or just my imagination

Easy Recipes

Google Rachel Ray of the food channel. Her thirty minute recipes are good and easy to follow. The chicken and fish recipes are easily convertible to kosher. I have found that if you follow recipes cooking skills, as our mothers had, are not necessary.

noie due for sunday brunch

As I said before Noi Due is wonderful for brunch. If crowded you can go to My Favorite Desert which is nearby. The seating in the back room is better than in front. The brunch food is great.
If you are on the East Side U Cafe is wonderful for brunch. The food is excellent. The only drawback might be the price. Still, if you are going to enjoy yourself with friends it is well worth considering

noie due for sunday brunch

I agree it is a wonderful place for brunch. If it gets too busy do not forget My Favorite Food which is nearby. It also has a great brunch menu. Hint..Sit in the back room.

Talia's Steakhouse (NYC)

If Darna still does brunch consider it. It will not disappoint. I have nothing really positive to say about Talia"s. I like Deli casbah, but you will have to expect constant tapes of the rebbe. Some people might find this over the top, but the food is good.

Eat Israeli on March 30

Don't miss the Israeli products. I just picked up clementines from Israel that are being sold at Fairway. The taste is as good, if not better, than any clementine Ive eaten from Spain, Morocco or the United States. The price exactly the same as any other.

8 Day Meat Pesach Dinner Menus

You are right. Real men eat cheesecake, but we wait for shavuos

Eighteen Restaurant

Strange? Not at all. In NYC if a restaurant is kosher it must have sushi or go out of business. Every pizza place has sushi. Even Deli Kasbah has sushi, along with videos of the rebbe. It has gotten silly. I would strongly suggest asking if a restaurant is really kosher if it doesn't serve sushi,

Cabot's Cheddar

Added cost is everything.. Cabot's has a hechsher on most of their cheese, albeit one that is not accepted by many. I am sure that the OU is more costly and that is why they smaller runs. I do agree with you that it would be lovely to be able to eat all of Cabot's cheese.

Cabot's Cheddar

You are right that there is spotty stocking. Fairway has the OU Cabot around yom tov. I picked it up at Kosher Marketplace and Zabars. I have not ordered it on line, but it actually seems less expensive there. I wish they would make an OU version of their other cheddars, especially the private stock, which I remember as wonderful.

Chorizo...any Kosher substitute?

Koosher paella. If you would could you give a recipe

Engagement Restaurant Ideas in New York City

Mike's is the star of the restaurants mentioned. Sit upstairs, perhaps in the little alcove and you will have romance as well as great food. Call and tell them what your plans for the day are and I will bet that that they will treat you like royalty

Washington DC

No I am not his lawyer. I do not eat at Moaz. I am constantly amazed that some of the participants on this blog do not care about the rules of the blog. According to Chowhound the validity of the hechsher is not up for debate. If the hechsher is good or not is the business of each member and his/her rabbi. I notice that you did not bother to answer the question I had for you. How do you know he never visits any of the individual branches?I think that you might want to follow either the Chowhound rules, or atleast answer my question without just spouting. As to queenscook, I do not know if he, or his representatives are able to be in Washington. I take it you do not eat under Rabbi Steinberg. The one thing I know is that noone worries about eating under star K which is a Baltimore organization. The location of the organization is not always important to the validity of its supervision.

Review of Fairway Paramus

If you are speaking of Rabbi Mermelstein he is widely accepted. I would suggest that rather than Kashrut by Shlomo you ask your Rabbi. Just so you know the Rabbonim on the UWS and UES of Man. certainly accept him.
