My son is turning one next month and I want to get a great birthday cake. I was thinking Hanson's but would love some other options. I want a sheet cake with yummy frosting, not whipped cream. I am looking for a place that can do kids cakes like sesame street, not a fancy place like Sweet Lady Jane. I am willing to drive a bit but would like to stay on this side of the hill. (meaning not heading into the valley) Any ideas? Thank you!
I went about 3-4 weeks ago for breakfast on a Sunday. I had some egg thing with some kind of cheese. It was awful! Hardly any cheese and just yuck and very expensive as far as eggs go. There were flies everywhere and it was really hot. I ate about 2 or 3 bites of my food and couldn't eat anymore and when the girl came to take my plate, she said nothing about the fact that it was still full. She had not been over to see how things were and it had been a long time, my friend was done. I would not go back, there are so many other great places in that area.
Ok, so because of the postings on Tasca, I thought I ought to try it out for dinner. I had been so many times for breakfast and lunch as I posted above and so tonight, I went for dinner.
I walked in and one of the owner I used to see when I came for breakfast came and gave me a hug. I asked how things were going, she said great. The place was empty, but it was just 7pm. My friends and I sat down and they made room for the stroller. (I brought my baby out for the night and he was sleeping) I started with the chicken liver mousse and it was amazing! Creamy and yummy and perfect! I had the steak for dinner but had mushrooms rather than french fries. My steak was cooked perfectly and the mushrooms were great! One of my friends had the tossed salad and loved it and also had the chicken and was very happy. My other friend created her own salad and they were more than happy to make what she wanted. They went out of their way to make her the perfect salad she wanted and even brought out a plate of just beets when she asked for more. One friend had the grilled fruit for dessert while the rest of us skipped dessert. (I have been working out extra hard this week and didn't want to eat all of the yummy stuff after eating so much for dinner) We left at a little after 9pm and the entire place was full! All of the tables and the bar and even a few of the tables out on 3rd street. I was so happy for them!!!! The owners are really nice people and the food is great, I will go back over and over as I have been doing since they opened.
There is also the Urth on South Beverly which is much better then the one on Melrose. (less of a scene and none of the out of work commercial actors) I actually think the food and service it much better at this location and the seating it better as well.
Angelina does have a punch card as well. I think it is also the 10th one is free. They have carbolite, but I have never had it. I like the real stuff, since theirs is all non-fat and tastes like I am eating soft serve ice cream, I am beyond happy!
They have baked goods, drinks and full coffee bar. It is very clean, nice setting, at least the WeHo one is, the other 2 are on the small side.
I had to post about Angelina because I have never had such good frozen yogurt! There are flavors I would never eat that taste amazing there. My favorite flavor is cheesecake, which is hard to come by, when it is in, it goes fast. I get the cake cone and it is the perfect amount of yogurt and always tastes great. There are three locations, one on Bedford in BH, one on Santa Monica Blvd in WeHo and one on Melrose btwn Fairfax and La Brea. I used to deal with the awful yogurt and beyond awful service at the place on Beverly at Crescent Heights, but now I would never go to that place again, I will always make the trip to an Angelina. The guy who runs the WeHo location is very nice and will tell you what flavors are coming the next week. Check it out once and you will be hooked!
I went for my birthday last week with 10 of us and it was awesome! It was hot since it was about 95+ outside and there was no air or windows open but we looked beyond that and had a really great time! The food was great, I do wish there had been more entree options, but nobody left hungry. The cheese were awesome and the pig candy rocked! I would totally go back, no, I mean I will totally go back!
I LOVE Tasca. The owners are so nice and the food is GREAT! I have been there at least 15 times for breakfast and always leave feeling full and good. The menu has great options and I am always confused at to why anyone would wait to eat at Toast where the food is medeocre at best when you can eat at Tasca. I have also been a few times for lunch, but never for dinner. I will have to check it out. I suggest everyone go! It is awesome!
