i also have heard that many people do not eat lentils during RH because they are used when someone is in mourning....and you don't want the RH associated with Shiva.

Kosher Emergency Rations for Kids
crackers, cereal/breakfast bars, pretzels, raisins, craisins, milk (that comes in juice boxes and does not need a fridge), canned chick peas, water, rice cakes..i am just thinking of items we typically give kids in school for snack that are not perishable.

btw..oreos do not contain milk, i have a friend whose son is highly allergic, and the "d" on the package refers just to the other items that they produce in the same facility.

gluten free pesach products
i have been looking around the stores and haven't seen many products that are gluten free for pesach...a few cakes and cookies, but i was hoping for bread crumbs or other items.
everyone says that pesach is THE holiday for gluten free people, but i haven't been impressed yet. does anyone have any recommendations of products or stores? i live in queens, and we are sephardic, so rice or corn products would be ok.

Passed by it on Bell Blvd in Bayside, also saw one on Austin St. in Forest Hills. They have a hechsher outside the door.

I had a vegetable soup and my friend had a spinach soup. Both were barely edible. Spinach soup looked like green water.
I had a pasta with marinara sauce that tasted as if it came from a box, and the sauce was very bland. My friend had gnocchi, which she said was not good. The waiter had no personality, and even when we were they only ones there he never refilled the water or bread. For $25 for a plain pasta I am expecting something better then I can make at home. I prefer Van Bene or Tevere.....Domani was the best when that was open....I really think it is absurd to charge the amount this restaurant does and not have it live up to the standard you would expect. Also there were no towels for Netilat Yadayim, nor in the bathroom....

Went there last night for dinner. Place was completely empty. Service horrible, too expensive, and the food was barely edible. How can people charge so much for a barely edible meal....It is so disappointing to go to these types of kosher restaurants....

if you live in queens, many stores have hawaij. pereg on main st. as well as amalya next to supersol. also isaacs and a to z on union tpke.
as for a recipe:
6 tablespoons black peppercorns
* 1/4 cup cumin seeds
* 2 tablespoons coriander seeds
* 1 tablespoon green cardamom pods
* 1 teaspoon whole cloves
* 3 tablespoons ground turmeric
another:
INGREDIENTS
1/4 cup ground cumin
1 tablespoon ground cardamom
2 tablespoons turmeric
1 tablespoon ground coriander
1/4 cup freshly ground black pepper
PREPARATION
1.
In a black iron or heavy-bottomed skillet combine the cumin, cardamom, turmeric and coriander. Place over very low heat and toast, stirring constantly, for 10 minutes. Remove from heat, add the black pepper and stir well. Store the blend in a tightly sealed container for up to one month.

there are different minhags regarding this. my husgands family is yemenite, and they are permitted to re-heat a liquid.
