Yum Yum Thai Restaurant in Sunnyside
I agree. I Am Thai is where we get take out and has not changed its good quality in the three years since we started ordering from there. They have never been rude to us. Jake, are you writing about the old Rumpal's change to whatever it is now?
Max Bratwurst un Bier - New German place in Astoria
Beer is good traditional German favorites. The sausage, which I had to send back once due to undercooking, was so so. But it is new and clearly they need time to work things out. I'd like to try some of their other plates.
It's a small place, but works well since there's a lot of light with the fold out windows opened. It's mostly communal seating, which is nice, too. The umpa-music is not to loud and there is a soccer game on the not too big tv.
Your Hub will love it.
After 9:30pm take out options in Sunnyside and LIC?
Thank you; that is very interesting. I may be feeling differently about Kosher/Halal now, too.
Quaint on Skillman is open till 10, so is Dog and Duck. Also, there are those 2 French restaurants that have opened up lately; one on 46th and the other on Queens Blvd. They may be open late.
After 9:30pm take out options in Sunnyside and LIC?
Mangal? They are open till 11, I think.
I like Curry Point, can be hit or miss. What don't you like about Halal? Just curious.
Late lunch in Queens on way to JFK
You could go to Flushing, just off the Whitestone Expressway for Chinese and Korean. There is little that I know of close to the VanWyck.
Birthday, Italian or Greek, Nolita or Soho
I'd never heard of Open Table! God bless the internet. Thanks!
Birthday, Italian or Greek, Nolita or Soho
Girlfriend's B-day, A nice Itlalian or Greek place in the lower east side, Nolita or Soho. This is for Friday night. Yes, I know, I'm a little late on this, so, help.
Visiting NYC from CA - need help planning a day trip to the Burroughs!
Type in Roosevelt Ave. or Flushing for this site. The 7 train will take you where you need to go.
By the way, new yorkers from Queens, Brooklyn, The Bronx, and Staten Island will remind you that Manhattan, too, is just another borough.
Shake Shack Brooklyn
There last night, just around 7:30, not bad at all. Burgers a little dry though.
Woodside tamal vendor
I've walked down Roosevelt Ave. in the mornings on Saturday and Sunday, mostly in Jackson Heights, and seen almost a dozen along the way; ladies with big metal pots in wagons. They have all kinds. Buck fifty for the regular chicken. pork or rajes, and some have the Oaxaqueno big ones with the mole poblano. Last time I was down there, I saw several on the south side of Roosevelt just off 82nd, I think. The earlier the better, say 9 or so. Always a bunch of guys standing around, forks in their tamales.
Brazilian grocery store
There's a Brazilian supermarket in Astoria/LIC, I forget the name, on 36th ave and, I think, 33rd street. It's just off the N at the 36th street stop. They should have what you need or point you to a some place close.
Guide to Woodside
We loved Rumphool, too, but we ordered our usual from the new place, Pad Kra-praw and Drunkman noodles and thought they were even better than Rumphool. It was like the take out from Thai Center Point, who we also love, but they rarely deliver. There is a larger menu to explore, too. The place is called Thai Home Kitchen.

I fought the cemita, and the cemita won
Not interesting, amusing. Anyway, the day shall come for you, too, soon I hope.
I fought the cemita, and the cemita won
Nice looking Cemita! I once lost a tooth on a meatball parm at Paneattico on Bay Ridge. Good sandwich; bad dental work.
thegforceny, it's a food story.
anything near Jacob Riis beach??
There's a bar on 129th street called Jameson's that has excellent burgers.

Looking for good pubs near Brooklyn Sheraton (228 Duffield Street)
You're right, not really a MUST visit, but you SHOULD walk down Montague after the Prominade on your way to Atlantic Ave for good pubs, which was my point
Looking for good pubs near Brooklyn Sheraton (228 Duffield Street)
Montague Street is a must visit, but there are mostly restaurants, Eamon Doran's is the only bar I can think of there. Doran's had no craft beers the last time I was there. I think if you are looking for beer and food, you are better off with Bkeats recs on Atlantic. There are lots of nice bars and I like Waterfront's food.
I'll pass on the gyro, where is the best shawerma in NYC?
The Gyro here in New York is due to the influence of it's Greek population. It's true that most Gyros in NY and I think in the country in general have been using poor quality meat from Kronos distributors. You'd have to hit places where there are still Greeks to get a better quality Gyro, if that's what you want at a Greek restaurant. There are still some good Gyros in Astoria, but many Greek families have moved out of the city, except Bayside or Whitestone Queens.
Anyway, the largest and fastest growing Middle Eastern communities are in Bay Ridge and Astoria. Most of the Shwarmas that I've had in those two areas are very good, just like Karam's. You must have been in Karam's on a bad day; however, if you are back in the area again, take a walk down 5th avenue in the low 70s. There are a lot of places that have shwarmas. All of them are certainly Arab owned.
Citi Field Suggestions Please....
Here, here! You just gave me a plan for the next Mets home stay.
Citi Field Suggestions Please....
Stop, just stop! El Verano Taqueria is a ballpark taco window, not representative of New York mexican food. Any number of restaurants or trucks on Roosevelt Ave., under the 7 train on your way out there, would have served to compare to anything, outside Puebla.
I doubt that I'd go to Wrigley to find a sample of Chicago's best Mexican. Stop.
Having said that, El Verano Taqueria is pretty good for stadium food.
Also, I had their black and white shake the other night, and it was very good, too. That was at 6 cuz I got there early, which may make a difference.
Saffron Garden in Sunnyside
Janie, if you order delivery, you don't see the inspection, that's the trick. Anyway, I've tried Saffron since, and I like it more. Their appetizer + entree deals are good.
Saffron Garden in Sunnyside
My wife and I tried Saffron last night, and found it better than Basmati Table, but not as good as Curry Point.
We had chicken tikka, which was a little fatty. We had the sag panner, which was a little too creamy. I though the garlic naan was a little short on garlic.
The meat samosas were yummy though.
Again, this is all compared to Curry Point, which, I guess, will stay our got to for take out.

Gourmet in Queens?
Where in Queens do you live? There are plenty of ethnic places, you'd just have to hit a couple areas for what you need. I'm sure the board could recommend neighborhoods: Astoria (Steinway) for Arabic, Jackson Heights for indian, Kew Gardens for russian or bukharan, Flushing for chinese, etc.....
Brooklyn Pizza Survey
Ditto on Paulie Gee's. I love DiFara, Lucali, Totono's and all the rest, but Paulie Gee's is my favorite. Also, There seems to be a effort at authenticity; I think it has a pie closest to the ones that I tried in Naples. Great selection of toppings, nice atmosphere, and excellent beer selections. I like the oddness of it's location; it's fun to bring people there, a dark nook in Greenpoint behind big wooden doors.

Chipp Pizza
No. They just make pies here. As Naked Duck said above, their pies a comparable to Motorino's. You can have 12"or 6", A good selection of toppings, a little expensive, they have wine and beer.

Best romantic blizzard recommendations?
BillyBob, did you take that walk across the bridge? I hope you (and the romance) are still alive. Where did you wind up?
A nice beer in Bay Ridge?
Schnitzel Haus on, what is it(?), 5th and bay ridge ave. The best German in Brooklyn. They have the usual German suspects on tap. Spaten, HB, Kolsh. There are about 10 taps in all.

Seeking: German Recommendations On Staten Island.
I love Schnitzle Haus, too. I once asked the chef where the Schnitzle Haus sausage was made; he said it was made in Staten Island. There must be something going on out there.
