Oishii Village closed, reopening as Sushi Motto (Cgy)
Oh dear...I bought one of these coupons for Sushi Motto. I wanted to try it because they had real crab California rolls. I was going to wait for awhile before we used it, because if I remember correctly, there's no expiry date. On one hand, that might help them out because it will spread out the burden a little, but on the other hand, I don't want to not use it and then they close down, you know?
Chopsticks Sushi...Not sure they want me as a customer anymore
Could be, I guess. I'll see how it goes.
Chopsticks Sushi...Not sure they want me as a customer anymore
Yes, it's across the street from Marlborough Mall.
I haven't seen them do this to any of the other customers.
Chopsticks Sushi...Not sure they want me as a customer anymore
I've been going to this place a lot to get takeout for lunch. Somehow this appears to have made me an easy target to be treated a bit rudely by (I think) the owners, mostly the woman. I've been asked nosy, prying questions a few times, apparently blamed because they rushed my order once and it made someone else's order late (I didn't ask them to rush it), but it's good sushi and it's the closest place to where I live, so I've kept going back. I stopped there on Saturday night because we didn't feel like cooking. The exchange went something like this:
Lady owner: "Don't you cook?"
Me: "Well, yeah, but I didn't feel like it tonight."
Lady owner: "You should learn to make sushi."
Me, silently: (Um, don't you want my business?)
I suppose it doesn't sound like much written down, but with the tone and taking into account previous questions/remarks, I have to wonder why they'd want to drive a regular customer away. If there was anywhere else nearby with decent sushi, I'd switch because I feel quite unwelcome these days. The next closest place to me would be Sumo(?) in Sunridge, as far as I know...a bit further than I'd like to drive. Will I have to branch out and eat something else for lunch? (Nooooo!)
Has anyone else ever had this experience with a restaurant you frequented? I just don't understand why a business owner would do this.
I've recommended this place to friends, and even on here a few times before. :o/
Sunday Brunch in Calgary?
Is the date on your post right? Since when is the Coast Plaza Sunday Brunch $15 pp? Did the price drop by about $10 since the last time I went there?
Where to Find...?
Thank you...I don't suppose there's anywhere closer to me for the chocolate croissants, huh? I live in Dover. Does Manuel Latruwe have parking? I don't like downtown because of the parking situation. I have an aversion to paying for it. :p
Where to Find...?
I am looking for two items: chocolate croissants and tea cookies. Where would one find these in Calgary? I know you can get tea cookies at Costco, but I can't go there by myself as I don't have a card. I'm sure I saw them somewhere else once, but I can't remember where.
This is what I mean when I say tea cookies:

Bakeries in Calgary?
Any good bakeries for sweet baked treats near Dover in the SE? Like cookies, cakes, muffins, cupcakes, other things that I don't even know the name of, etc.?
New Orleans Restaurant to Hide and Not be Seen
Doesn't anyone besides me want to know why the OP wants to hide and not be seen?
Best Chinese Lunch Buffet (or dinner) in Calgary
There is also a New Dynasty right across Memorial from China Rose, tucked into the strip mall on 28th street behind the 7-11.
Calgary Sushi
Ewww! I went there a few weeks ago, and it was the best I've tried so far. Until I read this, that is. :o( I've also been to Sushi King (okay, nothing stood out to me, but I only had the rolls), and Aji Ichiban (in London Towne Square). Aji is like fast-food sushi--okay if you're desperate, but not much different from the grocery store.
That's all I've tried so far.

Breakfast buffets in Calgary
I second Coast Plaza! *Drool...*
They have a flambe station as well--not to be missed! I think they have told me they bake their own desserts...perhaps they were lying to me, I don't know. Their lemon bars are to die for.
Please help me narrow down my lunch/dinner options
Perfect guys (and gals), thank you! I am too squeamish for raw oysters (especially since my stomach is screwed up and I will get sick from things other people tolerate well), but I'd like to try fried and maybe chargrilled.
Please help me narrow down my lunch/dinner options
Sooo...it's basically a crapshoot? :p
I can't find Dooky Chase's or Lil Dizzy's menu online...does such a thing exist?

Lil Dizzy's
Dooky Chase
Drago's
Jacques-Imo's
Willie Mae Scotch House
Are Lil Dizzy's and Dooky Chase worth my time? If I'm going to Acme, should I skip Drago's, or try out both? What about Jacques-Imo's? Is Willie Mae Scotch House worth my time?
Also, if I want to try beignets, should I go with Cafe Du Monde, or Cafe Beignet? I like Cafe Beignet's full menu. Neither of us are big coffee fans, so I'm talking beignets alone.
Thanks!

Dante's Kitchen? Brigsten's?
These two restaurants have the same address on Google Maps. Are they connected, or is the map wrong? TIA...

"Experience" restaurants?--Calgary
I tried booking on Open Table, and all the reservations were taken up for as far out as Open Table allowed you to make reservations--something like nine months. I don't know if it was a glitch on Open Table, or if it really is impossible!
B&C Seafood, Vacherie
Oh, this is great! Thank you! We won't likely have a car (unless we rent one for one day to drive to Mississippi), but we can cab it to restaurants that are further than we can walk (well, maybe--the husband's a cheapskate when it comes to cabs!). Sure, I'd love some travel tips. My email is lainey (at) canada (dot) com.

Sweeterpea---you're from the Prairie Provinces board, aren't you!? I'm going to New Orleans in June. I'd love to hear about your trip.
Late-night Saturday dinner near hotel?
What's wrong with Oceana Grill? I just got curious and checked out their menu, and it's definitely a place that I would wander into off the street. Is their food bad? Service? Both? Will I get sick if I eat there?

Late-night Saturday dinner near hotel?
I just read this thread, and now I'm totally confused. It goes back many, many years, though: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/128285?tag=search_results;results_list
