I'm new to the area but I found tht the Hunan Balcony on Johnson Avenue and Salvatore's of Soho on Riverdale Avenue offer above average Chinese and Italian cuisine. Just look for where the "Boys in Blue" from the 50th precinct eat and you won't go wrong.
