Best croissant from Chicago bakery

Hi chowgrrl. I must recommend Medici on 57th in Hyde Park. I am a lifelong Chicagoan; these are the best in the city. Highly recommended.

Best pizza (for delivery) around UIC/University Village?

A little far south for me, but I will give it a shot.

Best pizza (for delivery) around UIC/University Village?

It is hard for me to compare to how they used to do things, but yes, that is where I get my thin crust.

As for ems suggestions below, don't get me started on Aurelio's I can't stand their pizza. They definitely have a following, but their sickly sweet sauce is a total dealbeaker for me.

Tomato Head is overpriced - and nothing special - in my experience.

I have had Pat's 2 or 3 times and I must say I was not impressed. I'd say skip Pat's. Giordano's is the best that I have had in my years living in the South Loop. As sad as that may be, I am a life-long Chicagoan and I know pizza. Let me know if you find something better - please.

Treat in Humboldt Park?

The owners of Lula Cafe opened a new restaurant in Humboldt called Treat. Has anybody tried it out? I have heard nothing about. My family and I are big fans of Lula and are excited to hear anything about the new joint.

Fun, High-End, Great Private Room for approx 25?

Blackbird sounds to me to be the perfect fit for your needs. http://www.blackbirdrestaurant.com/

Tried a new restaurant in Forest Park

Yeah, went to brunch. It was pretty good, but it didnt change my life.

Pizza on a Plane! (or: how do I take pizza from Chicago to Phoenix?)

Buy a frozen pie and pack the bag with dry ice. A buddy of mine took a pie from Chicago to London this way; he said it cooked just fine.

MMM...Gino's East Pizza highly recommended for deep dish 'za

I completely agree. Lou's gets way too much attention on this site. Gino's and Giordano's are the real deal.
On top of everything you just said about Lou's, I also have to mention the fact that they mix cheddar cheese in with the mozzarella. That is pretty much a deal breaker for me right there, no debate.

Chowhound Bachelorette Party

Lula is fantastic for brunch; my family and I go all the time. Dinner is worth the trip, but more hit-or-miss generally. I'd recommend it, though. Lots of organics and locally grown food products. The place has a cool yet relaxed atmosphere.

Loop Lunch Spots

Don't forget Tokyo Lunch Box, especially good when the weather gets cold: the udon noodle soups are fantastic. The teriyaki bowls are great, and the sushi ain't bad either.

They have locations all over the Loop.

Chicago eats

If Garrett's popcorn was the best food you had in Chicago, Pete, you didn't do too well. Either that or you really like popcorn.

So what's up with NoMI??

I have eaten at NoMI once, last summer I think. We didn't do the prix fixe-thing (I didn't realize they offered it). The food was good, not great. The bar and lounge area are stylish, classy rooms. And the outdoor terrace is Spectacular. I live in Printers Row and am used to a city view; the view from NoMI is worth at least one visit, likewise for the food.

Business Lunch very near S. Wacker Drive???

Agreed. Rivers is a classic business lunch spot, Adam.

Allen's New American Cafe

I went for dinner about year ago (not exactly recent). But the food was good and the atmosphere relaxed, as you described. From my experience I'd say it'd be a good pick for Mom. Otherwise, I'd suggest Northpond. I took my mom for brunch Mothers Day like 3 or 4 years ago. It instantly made the list as one of her favorites. Classy, good food, but not overly chic or sleek.

Help before my fiancee kills me

Being that you are asking about a wedding, price point is going to be a key factor. Also, is type of food important? Being that you want to be downtown, American is going to be the most prevalent. Answer those questions and I will be able to help you out a little better.

Seeking Non-Chain Steakhouse

Easy - Custom House. Delicious. It's a Shawn McClain restaurant (Spring, Green Zebra) so you can expect a very cool ambience - not a "business casual" feel at all.

Early dinner, River North

I second Bin 36... and I can't think of anything else.

Red Apple

I didn't know Giordano's freezes their stuffed; thanks for the heads-up on that. And Piece is good, too, for sure.

Red Apple

I will give it a shot. Since you don't specify neighborhood, I will just throw out some favorites.

Jewish Deli: Eleven City Diner opened recently in the South Loop. Big, tasty portions. All the classics.

Hamburgers: I'd say Moody's Pub in Edgewater. Especially in summer with their great patio. Half-pounders, and good fries to boot.

Greek: I can't answer that one.

Pizza: I am still looking myself for a hands-down favorite. Giordano's is good, but it's a chain. Carmen's up the Loyola campus (Faaar North Side) is really good, though, so I have only been once. Medici in Hyde Park is good, too.

Pizza Delivey in SoLo

Sorry, I would've warned you if I saw this post. Aurelio's is rubbish. The sauce is sickly sweet. To me, bad sauce is deal breaker. Anyway, you should post up your thoughts on Tomato Head - I live in Printers Row and I am looking for something besides Giordano's for pizza. I am cuirous to hear your thoughts on it.
