Too much smoked fish

kedgeree with the smoked cod

lox/smoked salmon/nova freezes just fine

Unidentified Chicken Part

a big delicacy when we were growing up, they were added to chicken soup for a few minutes before serving and everybody in the family used to fight over who got the eggs in the soup. Haven't seen them for years.

Cafe Dolce Amore Delray Beach

they frequently have $50 groupons for $25 which is a great deal for this restaurant.

Assaggio del Forno

where is it?

If you are invited over to friends' home for dinner...

Moral of the story? Don't ask what you can bring. Bring what you intended to bring anyway. Asking ends up being more work for me, I just bring either a hostess gift, a plant or a bottle of wine. If they don't like it then I don't really care. Being invited to dinner should not be a major hassle for me unless it's a close friend, a potluck or family.

Seeing Someone Touch Your Food

I don't obsess about it unless I see them touching money or a dirty cloth or the trash. How clean are our hands when we go into a restaurant and then pull out a chair, touch the table already having opened and shut our car doors, held our purses or phones and with no qualms break some bread or hold our hamburgers.
I worry more about going to wash my hands and then touch the door handles on the way out and then sit back down at my table to eat.

Food Network Star, Week 2 (SPOILER)

good point chowser about rock star guy being lucky enough to be in the winning team, but he'll get found out in the end.

I'm quite liking the format but man it makes me wonder, if they got all those thousands of applicants how Bobby. Ghiada and Alton came up with their top 5. Nobody here seems to be unique enough for a TV show.

Tater Salad: How Do You Take It?

potatoes with the skins on, tons of mayo (Dukes is best for me) added when spuds are still warm, salt and pepper, green onions chopped small and cilantro and or parsley chopped small. That's it and it's the only way I make it.

"Least Favorite Vegetable" Poll

another brussel sprout hater here.

Walmart steak, not that I would but has anyone tried? [Moved from General Chowhounding board]

bought some great lamb from there last week. They are also now doing a hormone free kinder to chickens chicken whole and cut. have not tried their steaks.

Miami - Boca to Naples - where can we stop for lunch?

Coral Springs could be good tho I have no idea what's there, but off 595/75 on the way to Naples.

Food Network Star

she looks out of proportion, and worse when she wears short skirts.

Say what?? Cooking comments that baffle you

thanks Freia. I really don't see why people are judgemental about how somebody else likes their food. Especially in a restaurant when it's not bothering anybody.

The Spaniard in Boca

is this the one in Moquilla's old spot opposite Chops Lobster House? Royal Palm Plaza.

Say what?? Cooking comments that baffle you

thanks for your opinion, that's just how I like it, always have always will.

Food Network Star

well I enjoyed it too.

Garbage disposal uses

a garbage repair man said to me, no onion skins or other tough skins and leek ends or other rooty ends with stringy bits like scallions, no tea bags without or obviously with string, no large chicken bones such as the leg bones but small bones ok, no other meat bones at all, no eggshells, no fruit stones, no citrus pith.

I don't really care what others say is ok to go down the disposal, I do not want to call a plumber to fix or replace mine following a smelly blocked sink so I tend to be careful and really only use it for plate scrapings and leftovers.

Say what?? Cooking comments that baffle you

I like my meat burnt to a crisp and that's how I have to order steak in a restaurant because well done to them means anything from medium rare and up. I have been to numerous steak houses that still can't get well done right. I do not like any pink in my steak and can't eat it that way but I have sent back plenty of steaks over the years so now I say burn it to a hockey puck feel.

Refills To Go at Sit Down Restaurants

A restaurant will give you free refills of bread, extra salad dressing on the side, as much ketchup and steak sauce as you need but it's tacky to the nth degree to take them home with you.

Anyway this obsession with constant drinking is very irritating. Really you need a 20oz takeout container of liquid AFTER you've already eaten and drunk to your fill? Look at how many people nowadays walk around with bottled water and other drinks all day long. It's totally unnecessary.

Seperate Checks?

learned my lesson last week with a group of nine women, they mostly shared apps and had 2 glasses of wine, I had a side salad and one drink, the check comes and they say $18 each because we've divided it by 9. Mine came to $10. I wouldn't mind but when this group of ladies meet they are usually very vocal when they haven't eaten/drunk much but when it suited them they split the check.

Spoon fed: how cutlery affects your food, By Fuchsia Dunlop

never thought about the taste but I hate when forks have wonky prongs.

I use the word cutlery but then I'm English, I too laugh at the word silverware when it means stainless or plastic.

Fair & carnival food

went to my first county fair a couple years ago and had chilli cheese fries (yum) and my first funnel cake (double yum). Not things you get at English fairs.

But in England it's the fried doughnuts hot out of the frier dusted in caster sugar they are just amazing, they taste like funnel cakes in a way but are doughier.

Galangal / galanga plants - any interest?

would love some but am in PBC - Boca Delray

Chopped All-Stars Finale (5/6/2012) [SPOILERS]

ugh I wouldn't want to watch her in Publix cooking Jenny-O's turkey strips.

Wendy's chili cheese fries

last time I had their chilli it was thin and watery and had more tomatoes than meat.

Say what?? Cooking comments that baffle you

I went to a friend's potluck party a few years back and had made quiches. When I arrived I turned on her range so I could warm the quiches and after about 10 minutes she suddenly starts to shriek. 'Oh no who turned on my oven, the instructions in their plastic bags are in there we NEVER use the oven'. Luckily for her the plastic hadn't melted yet!!

To this day I am still amazed, they have a toaster oven which they use because she says it's too expensive to use the big one!

Is there any traditional Kishka or Stuffed Derma in the US?

our Kosher butcher in NW London still sells (but I don't live there any more :( .....) helzel and kishka stuffings, both glorious and peppery and full of schmaltz. Have not found any in the US sadly.

Say what?? Cooking comments that baffle you

'I've never used my range'. Said proudly in South Fl where the users manual is still in plastic bags inside.

"I don't like x ......... you can't microwave it".

The 20 Best Restaurants in the World

glad to see in 3 in the UK so now can everybody shut up about English food???

What do you expect to come with an entree?

I have a personal dislike for the menu to describe the sides in a flowing manner to accompany your entree and when you get it there's nothing more than half a boiled new potato, a quarter of a carrot stick just blanched so you can't even bite into it, and a puree of parsnip about the size of a nickel. I'd rather they don't pretend you are getting enough and send the entree with nothing and have you buy sides.
