Carlsbad recommendations?
A decent Italian spot is Caldo Pomodoro, in the main part of old Carlsbad. Vigilucci's is nearby, but if you don't care if your waiter has an Italin accent, try Pomodoro, less attitude, great food (Osso Bucco, in addition to many others, very good). Garcia's, across the street is great for Mexican food..family owned and proud of their reputation for quality. Just down the hiway, in Oceanside, is Hon Sushi. Thought I would hate "all you can eat" menu, but you can also get anything from the menu. The "All you can eat" is actually pretty good, and fabulous for the price (around $18.00 for lunch, 23.00 for dinner)
Good place for groceries is Cream of the Crop, organic grocery store in Ocanside, and the Red and White market, a throwback to the era when your Mom sent you to the corner market with a list and 3 dollars. Paon is very good for upscale offerings, extensive wine list, and delightful owner. Not inexpensive. Harbor Fish is unique, and one of a kind, do this for the experience... and enjoy a very large taco!

Prescott dining
Nice to have these choices, thanks. Is it still a classic moment to have a drink at the Palace Bar??
Prescott dining
Thanks for the tips, always great to have some Arizona insight. As a kid, the big attraction was Bucky O'Neill!
Prescott dining
Where to go for lunch and dinner during a Sunday-Monday visit to Prescott this month.
Faves in the French Quarter?
Just experienced Susan Spicer's talent at Yosemite Chef's Holiday, so I would try Bayona, and Herbsaint. Wish I were going along!
Pacific Coast Hwy Dining - moved from the California board
Unless you are traveling on Monday (closed) the Long Beach Museum of Art, 2300 E Ocean, Long Beach (562-439-2119) has a great cafe, Claire's, that overlooks the ocean, has patio dining, and interior tables if it is chilly. Galleries are fun as well.
If you were to choose *one and only one* nonfiction food read, what would it be?
"The Auberge of the Flowering Hearth" by Roy Andries deGroot, 1973, is a recounting of Mr. deGroot's visits to a small inn located in La Grande Chartreuse, a high Alpine valley.
Many lovely and delicious meals and stories, well described settings and characters.
I have read parts of it several times, and love to revisit.
Seeking upscale (not stuffy) restaurant to take clients in Tucson, AZ
Give Jonathan's Cork a try, local favorite with plenty of good things to order. If they offer the jalapeno bacon wrapped shrimp as an appetizer, have it! Ask to meet Jonathan, great chef, and quite a character. Along with very fine beef, they have ostrich and bison!
6320 E. Tanque Verde Rd. Tucson, AZ 85715 (520) 296-1631
Somewhere between Pasadena, and Huntington Beach
Ideas for Sat nite dining for 2 couples meeting for dinner, love most cuisines, not too noisy.
Long Beach tomorrow
Since you will drive if need be, try Long Beach Museum of Art, beautiful bluff-top location overlooking the water, and really tasty food. Beautiful exhibits in the galleries as well. They are at: 2300 E. Ocean, Long Beach.

favorite on-line bbq sauces?
The Signature, and the Hot BBQ Sauces from Barbequin' Fools are great, as well as the Montreal seasoning. http://www.bbqnfools.com/Products/BBQ_Sauce.htm.
I haven't tried the Teriyaki yet, but I love the others.
Wedding Cake
Interested in hearing about wonderful wedding cakes for November 2007 event, Long Beach area.
Silvera's Steakhouse
Has anyone dined at Silvera's Steakhouse in downtown Huntington Beach? Four of us had dinner there last night, and I'm wondering if others came away with the same impression. The steaks were of very good quality, rare was really rare, but the overall experience was noisy, and each item was separately priced, including the bordelaise for the steak.
Best boxed broth?
I have been using Roasted Chicken Base, from Chef's Review, at Smart and Final, it's a 16oz. jar of the paste that is 1tsp-1cup boiling water, and it is a tad salty, but can be cut back a bit. The "Roasted" chicken is first ingredient, and it has better taste than the plain chicken I have tried. I have used all the Better-than products, and as with the Chef's Review, taste for the salt, or you will have a problem later.
Fav lunch spots phx/scttsdl
Four of us dined at Sans Souci last Feb. and were very disappointed with the evening as the waitstaff were very slow, we were seated in the back where tables were never cleared around us for over an hour, and we (I) went to the front desk to ask for our check when we had benn waiting at least 15 minutes post dessert for the bill. The nice antique French manager/owner was there to greet at the beginning, but we got the feeling that he had gone home, and the staff could then ignore us. The food was not bad, but for the price, and bad service, surely not worth it.
Does "mountain red" mean anything specific?
Back in the late 60's-70's we drank a jug wine called Red Mountain", but I can't imagine Julia going for it. Some insist it was fake wine at that, but it came in a gallon jug, and was around $2-3:00.
Birthday celebration in Tucson - Suggestions please.
I would like to suggest a Tucson favorite "Jonathan's Cork", where the food is always great, and chef Jonathan, a real character! It's 6320 E Tanque Verde Road, and the locals love it. Bacon wrapped shrimp are wrapped with jalapeno smoked bacon!
