Looking for Bitters

I just noticed them at Pecheur Du Marche carries them. That's the fish store by the Marche de L'Ouest farmers market, on Sources Blvd.

While you're there you can chow down on some fish & chips!

Restaurant Closings in 2012

Email received from L'Inconnu:

Goodbye!

Dear friends and clients,

We regretfully inform you that L’Inconnu is now closed.

Thank you all for your support during the last four years.

We will keep you posted with any news from our chef.

Hoping to see you again soon!

Nathan's Hot Dogs

If you're looking for retail and willing to go an hour south of Montreal, the Price Chopper in Champlain, NY has a bunch, with and without skins.

If I'm not mistaken, there is one at the Farmer's Market (Marché de l'Ouest) in DDO on Sources.

Yangtze on Van Horne claimed by fire Sunday night

I seem to remember people talking about them having excellent egg (or was it spring?) rolls on these boards. After a quick search, they're mentioned half a dozen times; thought some would be interested.

Doesn't appear that anyone was hurt.

Early Dinner for 6 people this Friday - Suggestions?

Thanks Cheryl, been wanting to try it for awhile on a friends recommendation, so this just confirms it, your posts are always highly regarded.

Early Dinner for 6 people this Friday - Suggestions?

I've been looking for some Tex-Mex, so I will be giving Jolifou a taste at some point in the near future.

I was thinking Mas Cuisine or L'Inconnu; your suggestions seem pretty good, more places to try out, thanks.

Early Dinner for 6 people this Friday - Suggestions?

I agree, but I had posted late at night and I was getting tired. I was hoping the Sans Menu restaurant reference was enough.

As it turns out, it looks like Le Gourmand in Pointe-Claire village might be the winner.

Early Dinner for 6 people this Friday - Suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestions, ladies and or gents

Early Dinner for 6 people this Friday - Suggestions?

A friend's coming into town and wants to take a group of us out. Last time we went to Sans Menu which fit the bill perfectly. I don't want him to go broke, and he doesn't want some hole in the wall if you get what I mean. I know it's short notice...

Anywhere from downtown to the West Island. I'd rather not cross a bridge if I don't have to. TIA

West Island Seafood

Isn't Saint Laurent is part of the West Island?

Lobster Bisque?

Le Pecheur Du Marche (3464 Sources Blvd) in the West Island usually Lobster Bisque for takeout available. Although not my thing, those around me love it. Just phone ahead if you're going just for that. I like many of their soups, chowder and fish & chips of course!

Egg Rolls

It was re-released under the name "The Kinky Coaches and the Pom Pom Pussycats", or vice versa. That was in the States. In Canada it was called "Crunch". At least that's how I remember it.

Li-Chee and Luna were both used as locations. They got spruced up - new signs and whatnot just for the occasion.

Egg Rolls

Actually, On Luck used to be in the strip mall where Shahi Palace and Pushap are, across the street from Jean Coutu. Back then there was a Van Horne Bagel there too, I miss that place.

For whatever reason, On Luck moved to it's current location by the airport, many years ago.

In the late 70's or so, my neighbour used to order take out from Li-Chee all the time. Other than that, and the movie that was filmed at Riverdale, I've rarely seen anybody there.

Egg Rolls

Pavillon Wong.

Haven't been there in a while, used to be pretty good for buffet until the previous owners sold a couple of years ago. With any luck they've gotten better. It is (or at least used to be) the place that sells small open ended egg rolls that are fried up crispy.

Donuts/Doughnuts

I hope they're open Sunday, going for a drive tomorrow!

Restaurant Closings in 2011

The Biftheque has closed according to CJAD, mentioned late this afternoon, due to bankruptcy. I don't know if they are closed for good or not, we will see.

The last time I went (this past winter) the food was only a shadow of what it one was. Even the waitress was subpar.

I will miss the butcher, with their brisket sales however. Good luck to all and the employees for something better to come of all this.

Where to buy a nice Charcoal Grill?

I haven't been there in a while, but Alternatives on Hymus in Kirkland might have what you're looking for. I know they carry the Big Green Egg, which comes in various sizes, from 9" to 24".

Dining in West Island

It's a couple of blocks north of Fairview on St. John's. If you remember ChiChi's, that's exactly where it is. Or more recently, it's part of the same mall that Cheers used to be in.

The few times I've been, the food and service has been good, and leaving hungry is pretty unlikely as their portions are generous.

fresh pizza dough

Cavallaro on St. Charles sold it the last time I was there. I wouldn't have noticed, but after I walked in, a few others came in and made a bee line for it, so I tried it out. Nice!

Does your Costco carry Bounty chocolate boxes ? or Big Turk ?

Pointe-Claire Costco.

Good Takeout Sushi near Ste Genvieve?

Thanks for the info, I'll have to try them out.

Please Help Me show them the light!

Or the Just For Laughs Comedy festival.

Leonidas chocolates at Costco!!!!!!!!!

FYI, I bought a box from Costco Pointe Claire on Friday late afternoon. There weren't many left, but at least a couple or three dozen. If you're facing the chocolate row at the back of the store (the aisle that faces the butcher) it is the second or third item on the right.

Good luck!

Nescafe Dolce Gusto pods

I noticed today that they sell them at me local Metro. It isn't downtown, but maybe the Metros downtown do?

Nescafe Dolce Gusto pods

I know this is a little off topic, but I thought it may be of use to some here.

Nestle is offering a $20 rebate for those that are going to buy a Dolce Gusto machine. Offer ends January 15 2011.

"Galette à l'avoine" [split from Quebec board]

Galadrielle, ca fait longtemps que je cherche cette recette - merci infiniment! C'est comme un cadeau de Noel deux semaines en avance! Joyeux Noel!

Thank you so much for this recipe, I have loved these since high school and never found a recipe - thank you so much!

Good Takeout Sushi near Ste Genvieve?

I just remembered that there is a Sushi Shop at the corner of St. John's and Pierrefonds Blvd. in the mall with the Jean Coutu. Although haven't heard much lately, I used to hear a fair anount of good things about them...

chinese in west island

When I was a kid, my neighbour across the street would go to Li-Chee Gardens often to get take out. I went with him once, and I have recollections of the stereotypical Chinese restaurants styling you see in movies, like those lights with the red tassels (I must admit I love those!).

Here's a review by Sarah Musgrave for the Montreal Mirror - great fun!
