Bachelor Party Dinner
I would inquire at Percy Street Barbecue. Lockharts all around! I've been wishing it were here when I hosted a bachelor party a few years ago.
Baby friendly restaurants in Philly or burbs?
Loud restaurants are a good bet. We went to Distrito recently with a one-year old and a two-year-old, and didn't feel like we were disturbing anyone--although I suppose if there was someone in the vicinity who would have been "distracted" by our moving the little one around, then maybe so . . .
Earth Bread + Brewery in Mt. Airy comes to mind as a particularly good place for little kids--if you go early it's crawling with kids.
Where to eat Anniv dinner?? (Phila)
I was just in a similar position (my wife is picky), but with far less advance planning. We considered: Amada, Chifa, and Noble: An American Cookery, which I've been wanting to try. All three had availability even on only two-days notice. After deciding to book Amada (but before booking), I, on a lark, called Vetri, where we've been wanting to go for years, but never plan ahead, and to my surprise they had availability. We're going tomorrow night!
Anyway, point is, with your minimal constraints, and August approaching, you shouldn't have trouble just about anywhere. Marigold--with I believe its still southern orientation--might also be a good bet for a non-foodie husband. Matyson also comes to mind as a place where the food is not likely to frighten . . .
Where to find great pizza in Chestnut hill area tonite, now that Rizzo's is closed
Mr. P's in the Abington shopping center is in some ways the closest replacement to Rizzo's--table service, deep dish available, etc.
I don't think there's any real "great" pizza in the area, but we live with:
1) the aforementioned Mr. P's
2) Cosimo's (we prefer it to Fiesta) in CH
3) Tony's Pizza City in Wilow Grove
4) Pizza Box
5) Mom's Bake-at-home in CH
6) From the Boot in Lafayette Hill (which may be worth a second try for you)
7) Charlie's if we're willing to drive to Roosevelt Blvd.
8) and, if we're really ambitious, Tacconelli's, which is by far the best, but also the farthest away
Not necessarily in that order.
Supremo Supermarket?
Actually, I'm embarrassed to say I haven't checked it out--just drove by and saw the change. Sounds like maybe it's no big deal. Thanks!
Supremo Supermarket?
Out of business! I was very disappointed to see that Supremo on N. Broad has been replaced by Shop 'N Bag. Anyone know of good alternatives for Mexican ingredients in or around Logan, NW Philly, or Eastern Montgomery County?
Taqueria La Morena in Hatboro
Can't really help, but it appears to be on a major road. Can you post a link to that review (if it exists)?
Knife Sharpening - found - Philly burbs
I just contacted them and they no longer "come to you." Rather, only mail order now.
Where can I buy Cojito cheese in the burbs?
I've been having a devil of a time finding Mexican cheese (queso fresco, queso anejo) in general. Definitely not at Trader Joe's in Abington, not at Whole Foods in Abington (the cheese guy said they used to carry it, but no one bought it), not at DiBruno Bros. downtown. Someone mentioned Chestnut Hill Cheese Shop--anyone know if they have it there? (or anywhere in Center City or Eastern Mont. Co.)
Cupcakes in Philadelphia: '08 Edition
Flying Monkey in Reading Terminal has terrific cupcakes.
Birthday Cake from local bakery?
Oh, no! Well, Flying Monkey in Reading Terminal is also excellent--though I sort of doubt it qualifies as "light" icing.
New Brewpub/ Brick Oven Pizzeria Coming to Mt. Airy?!
But, yeah, what does it mean to "feature flatbread"? Surely, they're serving more than bread, right?
New Brewpub/ Brick Oven Pizzeria Coming to Mt. Airy?!
Awesome. I do hope Mt. Airy and surroundings can support both this and McMenamin's, as I like McMen's, even though I rarely go because my wife's not a beer drinker and doesn't like the food. (I stick pretty exclusively to the fish and chips, which I like.)
Group party: Philly
Any ideas for where my wife's school could host it's holiday party? Here are the requirements:
1. Private room or area that can fit approx. 60 people. Private enough so that people can get up to make announcements, do a gift exchange, etc., without driving the restaurant crazy.
2. $20 per person or less (not including alcohol).
3. Family style is OK, but not necessary.
4. The school is in North Philly. Not really expecting a neighborhood place, so anywhere from South Philly to Northern Liberties, or possibly even Mt. Airy, is acceptable.
Last year they went to Criniti, which was basically perfect, but a bit over $20/person and they'd like to find someplace cheaper.
Thanks!
Deep Fried Pizza / Panzarottis ?
You're likely thinking of Tarantini Panzarotti on Marlton Ave in Camden. Definitely a sketchy neighborhood these days, but worth it.
Good fried fish in Wilmington?
Reviving an old thread here, but has anyone been to the fried fish place that is next to the prison on E. 12th on the other side of the river--I think it might be called Vicky's fried fish or something. I drive past it on my way out sometimes and am curious.
dinner for twenty
It's funny, I was just about to write the exact same post--KIPP and everything. Our only difference is that we're looking for a slightly less expensive place if possible, more in the $20-30 range (and we're actually 27 people). So if people wouldn't mind including a few more casual and less expensive places in their responses, that'd be great! (And please keep in mind that both of us will by trying to make a large reservation on relatively short notice.) Thank you!
