Great Burger - Upper Dublin Shopping Center

It's basically a locally owned Five Guys copy, so if you like Five Guys go for it. Plus the guy who owns it was pretty nice the time I went.

R.I.P. McCourt's Farm to Table

I never made it there, but one of the biggest things that turned me off from trying it were some of the comments that the owner made on the original thread to anyone who had anything negative to say about the place. Most of them were deleted by moderators soon after they were put up, but if you subscribed to the thread you were emailed them. I can understand being defensive, but he was basically attacking people. A better strategy would have been to address the complaints and say how you could do better next time.

The relatively high prices for food that I could have made myself didn't help either. I don't mind paying extra, but it has to be something interesting or unique to draw me in. I think that they were right in that Hatboro is probably ready for something a little more young / upscale, but they missed the mark this time.

Ice Cream Parlor for Party

I'm planning a first birthday party for my son, and I am expecting about 30 adults and 10 children, so we were planning on doing a make your own sundae party at an Ice Cream Parlor. Does anyone know of any places that are large enough for something like that or any experiences with a party like that of their own? We live in Hatboro, and we have family in Lower Bucks, so somewhere in the Central Bucks / Montco area would be the best, but I'd be willing to do something in the city or a little farther from home if it is a really good location.

McCord's Farm to Table Hatboro

I walked by this evening, and the name is actually McCourt's, and they have a page on facebook:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Hatboro-PA/McCourts-Farm-to-Table-Restaurant/155772594450188?v=wall&filter=1

Here's the description from the Facebook page:

Serving Organic, locally grown meals. You bring the wine, we'll handle the rest! Park for free in rear, enjoy the live pianist and savor the tastes of Delaware Valley grown foods. Fresh vegetable & fruit juices for the whole family, too!

McCord's Farm to Table Hatboro

There was still paper up on the windows as of this past weekend. I think there might have been some kind of note or sign on the door. I'll try to swing by tonight to see if there's any indication of the menu or opening date.

McCord's Farm to Table Hatboro

I was going through Hatboro this weekend and I noticed that On A Roll Cafe had closed, and there was a new sign for "McCord's Farm to Table" Does anyone have any idea what this is? I had never been to On A Roll, but I'm not sure if they went out of business, or if the owners were reworking the restaurant and changing the name. The name sounds intriguing, and it would be a good addition to the town, since the only good options right now are Corner Kitchen and La Morena.

The Metropolitan (North Wales Costco)

I finally got to give this place a try on Friday, and I'd say that most of the review are on the mark, the service is good and attentive, and the menu is pretty interesting. I got the Braised Short Rib Sloppy Joe. It was very good aside from the fact they put too much of a fairly generic tasting bbq sauce on it, so it kind of took away from the taste of the short ribs.

I'd say that the thing you have to keep in mind when evaluating this place is if you work in the area around here, even if its not perfect, it is great to have something more interesting to go to than what is currently in the area. The Metropolitan will be a welcome replacement for the Village Tavern on Stump Rd. for business lunches.

Anyone tried the braised pork chop recipe from NYT?

Has anyone here has tried making this recipe from the New York Times food section this week? It looks really good, but I was planning on making it for company and I wanted to see if anyone had any feedback first.

Wilbur Buds: Where to find in Philly

The bulk candy place in the Montgomery Mall has them too.

Mexican Brunch, Willow Grove area?

PattiCakes, did you end up finding a Mexican brunch? That sounded like a great idea instead of the usual Mother's day breakfast or brunch. Unfortunately there's no way I could have convinced my Grandmothers to go along with that idea! Let us know how it was.

Pizza in Hatboro

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I should be set for the next few Friday nights trying them out. I wound up going to Joe's Pizza next to produce junction, and it was pretty good for typical pizzeria pizza. Does anyone know if Bacco up in North Wales is still planning on opening the two new pizza locations? They have excellent pizza and ever since they opened the pizza side, the menu said that a Horsham and Warwick location were coming soon, but maybe with the economy they are delaying that.

Mexican Brunch, Willow Grove area?

I'm not sure if they have brunch, but Tortilla's in Willow Grove has awesome Mexican food. I sort of remember seeing something on their special board about a Sunday brunch, but I'm not 100%. The address is 634 York Rd, Willow Grove, PA 19090 and their phone number is : (215) 706-0777. You might want to give them a call and check. If not, definitely give them a try another time.

Pizza in Hatboro

I just moved from Chalfont to Hatboro, and I'm fairly familiar with the area, but I don't know any good pizza places yet. Does anyone have any recommendations in the downtown area?

Need suggestions near Penn State

You can't go wrong with the Corner Room for just regular casual food. It's right at the corner of Allen St and College Ave. If you want something a little more upscale, upstairs from the Corner Room is Allen Street Grill. The Deli is another good place for sandwiches, salads, etc, that's at 113 Hiester St. I also always liked Beulah's BBQ, that's at 114 S. Garner St. If you go to Beulah's, try the burnt ends sandwich. Its all the burnt ends of their beef brisket. The BBQ pork is great too. Skip the ribs though, they don't really rate compared to the pork or brisket.

Cho Cho San in Montgomeryville

Thanks for letting us know, I'll have to get over there one of these Sundays and give it a try. I'll try to write down the special menu and post it here if I go.

I didn't notice this thing that adds the link to the resturant automatically...

Crabby Larry's Brewpub Steak & Crab House
237 W Butler Ave, Chalfont, PA 18914

Cho Cho San in Montgomeryville

It's a small family owned seafood place on 202 in Chalfont. Their website has their menu and address: http://www.crabbylarrys.com/. They have a great selection of your standard seafood dishes, but all done well. Some highlights are the drunken mussels, the crab cakes and the stuffed flounder. The real plus is that the owner has been brewing his own beer there for a few years, and he always has a solid selection of seasonal brews. You don't hear much about it compared to the big brewpubs, but his stuff would compare favorably to anything you would get at Iron Hill.

Cho Cho San in Montgomeryville

That sounds awesome, where do you get it? I agree about supporting the local places, it's bad enough up here in central Bucks/Montco as it is, I would hate to have to choose between Friday's or Applebees every time we went out. Luckily, Cho Cho was the busiest I've ever seen. Every other time, we were either the only ones there or there was maybe one other table. This time, about 3/4 of the tables were filled, and this was lunch on Wednesday. Crabby Larry's is another favorite of mine around here that always seems kind of empty, but I hope they are doing ok.

Cho Cho San in Montgomeryville

I tried the Sunshine roll, it was a tempura shrimp roll with spicy tuna sitting on top of it. It was really different, espcially with the warm shrimp going with the rest of the cold ingredients, I would get that one again. My boss got the sashimi lunch special, which is a little plain for me, but that's his favorite. We both got the miso soup, and he got the house salad, which has a ginger dressing on it.

Cho Cho San in Montgomeryville

I went to Cho Cho San for the first time in awhile with my boss the other day, and it was great as usual, but has anyone ever gone to the Sunday all you can eat deal? How does it work? Do they have certain rolls that you can choose from, or is it whichever ones you want to order? I wanted to get an opinion from someone who has been to it, before I invite some friends, since it's kind of a long drive for them.

Best Cafe at bookstores in montgomeryville area?

Atlantic Books is going out of business? That sucks, they are my favorite for actually buying a book, rather than hanging out. I don't think there's any other bookstores in the area other than the chains, unless you go into Doylestown.

Driving Philadelphia to State College

If you are taking the turnpike and US-322, you definetly have to stop at the Red Rabbit drive-in and get a Bunny Burger and fries. Its only open Friday - Sunday, but its worth the stop. Other than that, there's just about nothing that I've ever found in all the years I've been making the trip.

Good chow near Langhorne

Friends Bar & Grille in Newtown has good food, its in the big shopping center with Genuardi's and Acme. I think the food is a bit better than Isaac Newton's, and the whole place has a pretty lively atmosphere. The only problem with Isaac Newton's is if you are bringing a kid, the bar area is fun, the restaurant area is separated and kind of quiet.

Why is it dangerous to eat shellfish that don't open?

You've never put all closed clams in the pot and then had one or two that never open? That was the whole point of the original topic. Anyway, here's an answer I found, they basically say that the shock of being boiled alive is what does it.

Why is it dangerous to eat shellfish that don't open?

That still doesn't explain why a dead one would stay closed even after cooking, going by what you said, they should have already been opened before you started cooking. Plus, I didn't say that I was an expert on the subject, its just something I heard on Alton Brown or some other show.

Langhorne recs needed

JB Dawson's is good for dinner, I think their ribs are great, plus they have a lot of good steaks and pasta dishes.

Why is it dangerous to eat shellfish that don't open?

I've heard that they open while cooking because while they are still alive, they oven their shell to try to cool themselves off. If they die of something else, they don't open up.

Sunday Dinner in State College

Try the Allen Street Grill. The Jack's Roadhouse Steak is great, as well as everything else I've tried there.
