need opinion on blue plate restaurant

We went last week for the first time, on short notice, for a casual family meal...

Service was a bit slow but friendly and casual.

The food was good... flat-iron steak frites, caesar salad, ravioli, ribs.... not exactly groundbreaking fare but it was good, fairly priced, and well-executed.

Enoteca Sociale? George? Other suggestions for business dinner?

I think of Pangaea and Opus as being exactly what OP's looking to avoid.

What's your most disappointing dining experience?

Scarpetta at the Thompson. Everything I hoped it wouldn't be: cold room, average service, tiny portions, decent food, exorbitant pricing.

The arrogance of the owner at Local Kitchen and Wine Bar Queen West

I think in assuming these tortello(i)ni are of a particular size, or that 'a big plate of cured meat' isn't exactly that, a couple of posters are taking a few liberties to slag this place.

Admittedly, I've only been to Local Kitchen a few times, but each time the food quality and flavour have been terrific, the service friendly and attentive, and we've left wishing we came more often.

As the Localest local mentioned earlier in the thread, figure it out for yourself. If you're summarily writing the place off because of a paraphrased interpretation of a comment from the owner, or a speculative pasta size, you're doing the restaurant and yourself an injustice.

fanny chadwick's on dupont is SOLID

I'll echo the NOW review. We went on their first Saturday evening for a burger and a beer to support the local establishment, expecting a few bumps in the service. Place was ~75% full when we arrived and filled up shortly thereafter. 90 (yes 90) minutes after ordering two burgers, we get two club sandwiches brought to our table.

Waiter was nice/apologetic, but I think I'll wait a few more months for them to get their **** together.

Wedding Rehearsal Suggestions? 40ish people, Private, August, downtown

Hi All -

Searched this board and none of the previous wedding rehearsal threads really captured what we're looking for.

Thursday night in late August, 40-45 people, we would like privacy and outdoor space if at all possible. A big restaurant with a private room and patio is great, a smaller place that we can shut down is great as well.

Geography is Dupont or St. Clair to Front Street, DVP to Ossington.

Budget is $100ish pp., all in.

We're already looking at:

Globe
Loire
Nota Bene
Crush (downstairs)

Any suggestions would be a huge help.

Dufferin/Rutherford Rd. Restos?

I second lago at Eagles Nest. Kind of weird to have dinner at a golf club but for fine dining it's probably the best in the area. Exceptionally deep (and expensive) wine list (the owners do not mess around with their grapes...).

Ladies and Gentlemen.....The new Champ Pizzeria Libretto

This place is an absolute madehouse. Lineup last night was out the door and takeout was a 45-minute wait.

That said, staff was very friendly and attentive, and the pizza is that good. Much better than Terroni in my mind.
