technically speaking, no such thing as "fresh" In US all fish served raw (like for sushi) has to be previously frozen in order to ensure that all parasites are dead. The only exception is tuna. You can serve raw tuna that wasn't frozen because it's not prone to parasites.

Apparently, many of the baozi are so popular you have to order in advance
They had a few packs of them lined up, that I asked about to buy, but she said those were orders waiting to be picked up
That explains why many times I've been there, they are simply out of them..it's all super fresh
Stop by, place an order in about 1-2 hours you can pick them up
Sounds like a hassle, but its oh so worth it

This place is soooo good, I'm almost reluctant to share...it's crowded enough.
Tucked into a corner of Gu Shine in Flushing {39th st?} (I believe they rent the space, haven't had much time to chat with the owners) is the home of the best boazi in NYC. Everything is made fresh ( you can watch her make the dough) and there are a variety of Taiwanese style snacks, most of which are $1. Take-out only.
But the ephipnay is the baozi--giant and stuffed with quality ingredients..Not the cheap type fat laden ground pork most places use and that I despise ( you know those awful 4/$1 places that some rave about) .
Here, They have 2 kinds boazi -- pork/veg & veggie (su cai bao). If you're lucky, you can get the veggie version with whole wheat flour!!! (Most of the time, I'm told to come back, because they're "hai mei you hao"!!) Yes, fresh whole wheat flour!!! Works well with the meat variety too.
Of course, they have the standard white flour variety.
On my next visit, I'll be trying some of the other dishes.

Also, Taiwanese Temple Snacks... menu is Chines only, sorry..based on Taiwans big city outside Taipei with the Buddhist Temple .very unusual and quite tasty

Today I had minced pork Taiwanese style, Thick soup, and the Taiwanese Meat & Veg Pancake
Topped it off with their shaved ice
Place Was kinda empty (bad location 3 Howard St), so who knows how long they'll last.
But for know, sure beats the shlep to Flushing

Love the Oyster Pancake, 3 cup chicken, Fresh Tofu w/ 3 Mushrooms and Stinky Tofu (available for takeout ONLY...apparently they are afraid the "smell" will scare off the white folks!)
But if you beg them in Chinese, they will serve it, stink and all....

AWFUL!! Avoid this place... If you want to spend 8 bucks for 3 ounces of chicken and a ton of rice..then go But really,I want them to succeed but the Birayni is oh so ordinary
...essentially you pay 8 bucks for rice. The dish is 95% rice and 5% chicken. They say they dont use commercial spices (i.e they make their own) but I noticed nothing special.
The somosas were tasty yes, but much too greasy..Bring a cardiologist And DO NOT BELIVEVE THE HYPE It's ordinary at best, but I salute the good intentions

Don't be silly,
First, it's rare to get these meats right out of the oven...most are there for a while
Second, even if you do, I doubt they would "steam" themselves into limpness..that's just not the nature of these BBQ's
" eat it quickly when you get back to Boston, as the “Char Siu” begins to lose flavor and the pork begins to harden very quickly" Not true, the pork doesn't harden unless it's poorly cooked. Based on your assessment, Chinese places would be throwing out tons of BBQ pork, which they obviosly do not. In fact, most Chinese reastaurants serve BBQ pork at room temp.

Cantonese BBQ in Flushing comparable or better than Big Wong
Chinese usually buy the takeout BBQ items for that night’s dinner and try to eat the BBQ items within four hours of buying them....For your long trip back, if you are lucky enough to buy fresh and still hot BBQ items, you may also want to open the lid of the container holding your BBQ items, otherwise the closed container will steam your BBQ items and they will not be crisp any longer when you arrive back in Boston, especially for roasted pig, roasted duck, and other BBQ items that have crisp textures.

#7 Train Kismet-Sainted Ecuadorian Cart Lady
Well, for the last 2 weekends the was no 7 train service from 111 to Main St. Although it made the commute hellish, there was one saving grace in having to take a shuttle bus to Main.
At 111 I had an epiphany...I Met and scarfed down the most delish Ecuadorian food. She has
a cart right on the corner near the 7 train...All sorts of meats, plantains, corn masa..and so addictively delish
I dont speak a word of Spanish, but she was patient and tried to explain the various dishes. I had the chicken in bamboo leaf (yes I know it's not bamboo, but I'm Chinese) and the port butt
thingy...with plantains and sausage.
So...pray for more service interruptions on the 7 and get thee to the Sainted Ecuadorian Lady!

White Bear, a hole in the wall place near Waterfront resturant has all sorts of boiled handmade dumplings
also, No 1. East (41-27 Main) has steamed spinach dumplings
If you don't mid having your dumplings in soup, try the shrimp or watercress ones at Sifu Chio 40-09 Prince

Dumplings at that price point are made with the cheapest ground pork...i.e. the fattiest part of the pig. Although there should be no gristle (pork really has no gristle, as does beef)it might have slipped in.
Most of my fellow Chinese would never eat these dumplings..those who do are looking for cheap eats, not quality

Sadly, there are no authentic Taiwanese restuarants in Manhattan.
If you really want Taiwanese, you have to go to FLushing.

Fianlly, It's not Taiwanese but upscale Chinese is Ocean Jewels, also in Flushing
