Lunch in Maine

I would stay in Portland for lunch, myself. Too many good places. A simple search will turn many of them up.

Visiting Charleston

Sweatman's is inside that 50 mile radius! We make changed our travel dates to and from Charleston just to be driving by there on a Saturday.

Restaurant plans in Charleston and Savannah; How should I change my "eating itinerary?"

poogan's was very dissappointing the last time I was there. Cold food and the place needed to be cleaned. Won't go back.

I'd give a second to fat hen. Never had a bad meal there and very reasonable prices.

Looking for specialty shopping sources in Charlotte

Thank you BillyJack! I'm always looking for ethnic shops.

Charlotte brunch spots

While I've never been to their brunch, I am quite fond of the Liberty for other meals. I see no reason why their brunch shouldn't be good. Stay away from Cosmos in Ballentyne for brunch. Limited choices and just ok.

Greenville, SC for 4 nights

I'll give a second on Stax Original and Sweet Basil. Both were good.

Fleet Landing Charleston SC

Thanks dinersaurus.

Fleet Landing Charleston SC

I'm in Charleston SC this week and have come across a restaurant called Fleet Landing. Have any of you all tried it yet? Is it worth it, or should I fall back to my first idea of High Cotton?

Macs is a good bet.

Liberty Gastropub is good too. Yes, it is a pub, but there were families there when I have visited. Plus you have the bonus of beer! Take the Lynx so you don't have to drive. They are at the East/West Blvd stop.

Price's Chicken Coop is walking distance from that stop too, take out only though.

Arena Area Dining Charlotte NC

I've never even heard of NOFO. I'll look into it. What can you tell me about it (style of food, price points, etc.)

Arena Area Dining Charlotte NC

Is Luce a similar price point to Coco?

Arena Area Dining Charlotte NC

So epicenter might be good for a post concert drink then...

Arena Area Dining Charlotte NC

Ever since my wife and I celebrated our fifth anniversary in Italy, American-Italian food has been ruined. (Darn traveling.)

Arena Area Dining Charlotte NC

southern, good to know. I've never been to the epicenter to see the clientele. Does Coco have a specialty? Or at least something that they do particularly well?

friek, I haven't been Lavecchia's in years and I didn't know about the discount. (I'm not above coupons, food tastes the same with them as without.) Seafood is always an option.

Arena Area Dining Charlotte NC

Thank bbqdawg. I had forgotten about Basil and was unaware of Enso.

Arena Area Dining Charlotte NC

Hey Hounds,

Going on a date with the Wife in a few weeks and am looking for a good restaurant around Time Warner Cable Arena (never to early to start planning, right!). We are adventurous eaters and don't mind something new.

I don't spend much time uptown, so I am not terribly familiar with what is there. A quick Google search turned up the usual chains.

I'm looking for a decent value, not a budget buster (one income family of four, the kids are not coming). Something within walking distance to TWCA is preferable, park once and don't have to worry about getting tipsy.

Can you help me?

Charlotte - Uptown Restaurant Week

They're doing a bang up advertising blitz. I was totally unaware of it happening. The Queen's Feast earlier in the year was quite good.

Need to find nice place not tooo $$$ for anniversary in Charleston, SC

GK, Get thee to Fat Hen and try the mussels. I'm actually heading there next week and we will be eating there at least once if not twice.

Cheese Mo'z Coal Fired Pizza (Charlotte, NC)

I've been to Cheese Mo'z a few times (living very close by). There pizza has been going through growing pains. The Wife and I tried it not long after it opened and it was poor. I tried it again for lunch a few months later and it had improved dramatically. So I would say, give it a little more time to figure things out. The biggest problem I have CM'z is the service. Very poor, and there is no excuse for that.

Cheese & Beer (and more) in Charlotte, NC

Earth Fare has a pretty good cheese selection, but it has thinned out a little bit over the years. Never done Brawleys, but Total Wine generally has all I need.

Chinese food - Charlotte NC

Belly, you are right. I've been here since 2000 and there isn't much. Where are you going for Vietnamese? Since Pho 98 changed hands, they have gone down hill and I was sad to see Mai close (it has since reopened in a new location, but I haven't tried it yet).

Whole Foods in Midtown Charlotte?

First I've heard of this! Then again I rarely venture up town. We're swimming in grocery stores in south Charlotte, I just don't know how we are supporting all of them.

DC hound moving to Clemson, SC...needs food help!

It's been a while since I set foot on the old campus. When to folks came to visit we would end up at Clemson Corners (memory serves) for dinner. It is a nice small restaurant with good food (it has a small problem burning down, so I'm not sure it is still there). For lunch/sandwiches, you gotta go to the Pot Belly Deli. As for BBQ, I'm fairly picky, and none of them really did it for me. In a pinch, Three Pigs.

The town has really grown up in the past few years, give it a try and be sure to stick around for game day, it is an experience.

work travel to Charlotte, NC

Looks like IM covered most of it. I have a client or two in that neck of the woods, but there isn't much in that specific area that I can recommend. If you were in south Charlotte, I could be of more assistance. If you are down here for a while and looking to venture farther south, I would try Miro's (Spanish), Waldhorn's (German), or Sugar Magnolia (low country). All of these are in the Pineville and Ballentyne areas. Otherwise, we are more or less inundated with chains.

Where in the city will you be? That way we can get something closer to where you will be.

Late night (10:00 pm) in Charlotte NC Monday

I was underwhelmed. I took the pizza making class under Chef Rheinhart and perhaps he did too good of a job. My homemade pies are better (imo). My crust was soggy and had no snap to it. Perhaps they just had an off night.

Charleston SC: Okay, so where's the GOOD low country food?

Went to Poogan's Porch some years ago with the wife (girlfriend at the time) and had a wonderful dinner. We went again last summer and the place reeked of dirty dishwater and everything was cold (even the biscuits) and bland. Just to add insult to injury, the food was over cooked. Needless to say, we won't be going back. Too bad, we really enjoyed it the first go around.
