Best Taiwanese pork chop?

Same spot Won Won was. It's called "Is House" or "Js House". Can't tell if it's a I or J.

Best Taiwanese pork chop?

I believe it was Nice Time. Used to be in the Focus Plaza, then moved to Arcadia where 101 Noodle Express is now.

Best Taiwanese pork chop?

The new place is run by the same owners. Still serve the tea jelly for dessert!

Best Taiwanese pork chop?

Nice Time Deli still has the best Taiwanese pork chop in my opinon. Their menu is still available at Machi Fusion in Arcadia during lunch. It's pounded thin and battered in sweet potato starch. Garlicky, crispy, and a little sweet. Perfect!

Okay, so I'm just a bit confused with these eggs. Do you slow poach them in the shell? Couldn't quite tell...
If so, how do you get it out?

California Burritos in LA?

Yeah just hand one yesterday with lengua. Delicious! They also have a few locations else where. There's one on Hyperion near Rowena. Look for the yellow sign and cute trotting donkey.

Myojo Chukazanmai Japanese Style Noodles.
I happen to grow up and live around the area where she buys all her noodles. I haven't tried that brand, but my favorite has been the Thai MAMA brand.

Whenever "X" Happens, I Always Eat "Y" - More Unique Examples

For me it's In-n-Out after every day of paintball!

Whenever "X" Happens, I Always Eat "Y" - More Unique Examples

I always order tomato juice because I'm too poor to buy actual food on a plane. It's reasonably tasty and almost like a meal.

Watching an adjacent diner's meal in disbelief and envy

Pizza King... Is that the place where you order with a phone that's affixed to your table? Lived for a short stint in Richmond and always got a kick out of that place. Tasty pizza!
Had a similar situation happen at a Denny's. A whole table full of people inexplicably took off right as their food arrived. Nothing was touched. Being a bunch of penniless highschoolers we immediately at all of it...

Daikokuya Cabbage Salad Dressing?

I haven't been to Daikokuya in a long time, but I'm guessing the little orange things are Gobo root.

Where to buy fake vegan meat (Asian style) in LA?

There's a shop in El Monte that sells a lot of great vegetarian substitutes. It's in a strip mall on the corner of Santa Anita and Lower Asuza. I don't recall the name, but it's the south east corner. My girlfriend gets her vegetarian fish there. Nice ladies and they sell fresh bao and various other chinese goodies.

Ultimate LA Pork Dish

I went out and tried this panino the night I read this thread.
Amazing!

Vegetarian Options in and around New Orleans

One of my best friends is moving to New Orleans. He's never been and a vegetarian. Even though I selfishly want him to start eating meat or at least shellfish while he's in New Orleans, I'd like to help him out with some suggestions.
He'll be living just South East of the fairgrounds (I forget exactly which street) and he'll have a car and bicycle, so distance won't be a huge deal. He's not a strict vegetarian, per se either. He'll eat things made with meat stocks or sauces, just not actual meat bits.
Thanks ahead!

Looking For Spectacular In LA For Under $30-$50 A Person

Lazy Ox has a better burger IMO

POLL: Who makes the best pork chop rice?

My favorite is and I think will always be Nice Time Deli's Pai Gu Fan. Pounded thin, breaded and deep fried. Crispy and slightly sweet. I was so sad to find out they closed when I returned from my tenure in Wisconsin, but soon found that the Nice Time Deli menu moved to Machi Fusion down the street on Baldwin. It's a Taiwanese beer house, but they serve the Nice Time Deli menu for lunch before 6pm, I think. It's the same Pai Gu Fan I've grown up with and absolutely love.
If there are more places that serve the same style of pork chop rice, I would love to hear about it.

Which Chains Do You Respect?

Not too many restaurants I miss in Janesville, WI, but Culver's is definitely one of them. Their Walleye fish sandwich is probably the best fish sandwich I've ever had...

Shabu shabu in SGV??

I like Jazz Cat quite a bit.

The Hidden Gem (at leat it was to me) that is The Fix Burger

I live around the corner on Griffith Park Blvd and this is definitely a great local burger joint. Burgers are very tasty and being within walking distance really helps with digestion afterwards.
I do agree about the buns, though. They need to find something a little more substantial to hold up to all the juicyness.

Chinese Hot Dog?

Froggy sauce!

Inexpensive but good pine nuts?

I advise against the pine nuts from Trader Joes. I recently got a bag to make pesto and made pine nut butter from the leftover ones. They left a strange bitter taste in my mouth for days. Same thing with all the friends that tried the pine nut butter. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/654197

I Have Found the Perfect Bun for Burgers

I also had an amazing burger in Montana. Except mine was at the Moose Club in Missoula.

Sweet Aroma Garden -- One of LA's few (only?) Fujianese restaurants

There's a Fujianese restaurant in Chinatown called Foochow Restaurant. It was featured in Jackie Chan's Rush Hour. It has been around for over 20 years.

They serve the typical Chinese Fast Food like sweet and sour pork, fried egg rolls, etc.

BUT DO NOT BE FOOLED!

This place is the place to go for authentic Fuchow/Fujian food. My grandparents are from Fuchow and even they say this is the real thing. We've been going here since the early 90's. They have the best traditional Fuchow food around. There's a section of Foochow specialties on the menu.

The only problem is you got to make sure your food is made by the Fuchow chef not the other guy. It's really luck who you get.

What's the best dish you've ever eaten at a chain? What surprised you most?

I can honestly say their walleye trout sandwich is the best fish sandwich i have ever tasted.

Jitlada - first time visit

I must say that I was very disappointed with the service during my visit.
Basically, the table sat after us got their food before we even got menus. As a matter of fact, I walked over to the register to grab my own menus. Being someone who works in the service industry; this is a huge red flag. A customer should never have to get out of their table for anything other than to use the restroom. Nobody paid me any mind.
Very disappointing.
The food was good. But, not great. Granted, I probably didn't order their best items. And, I didn't want to ask my terrible server for recs.
I will be happy to give them another chance and try some of the stuff you guys recommend.
But really. In an area with so many very tasty cheap options, they have to offer better service.

How do you order your burger and fries at in n out burger?

Cheeseburger, extra toast, peppers, WHOLE grilled onions (awesome). Well done fries and extra spread on the side.

Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers -- Huh?

My first experience with Raising Cane's was shortly after Hurricane Katrina in Harvey, Louisiana. I was there as a Red Cross volunteer and it was one of my first meals that didn't come out of a #10 can and it was delicious. Under normal circumstances I wouldn't have enjoyed it quite so much, but we loved it. Seemed like all the locals did, too.

Silly Eating Habits

Hahah me too.
Once got into a huge fight when my girlfriend had to feed me in the car while I was driving.

Where to get the best wasabi mashed potatoes?

We made it at a restaurant I used to work at (01 in Thai town) that has since closed. Try making it yourself with wasabi and kewpie mayo.
Good luck!

Recent visit to Zankou... disappointment

I went to the west LA branch of Zankou the other day and have to say that I came away a bit disappointed. Zankou's always been a pretty reliable source when I'm craving chicken and I've always loved the garlic sauce, but this time things were a little different. The first thing was raised prices, wasn't suprised I could no longer get a very filling 1/4 dark plate for under 5 (maybe it's only this branch? or it's been raised for a while seeing how I haven't been in a couple months). The second was when I went to get my order instead of the usual clear plastic snap-on lid magic sauce delivery system I get a pre-sealed opaque container that immediately makes me believe things are seriously wrong. The first taste confirms it. The sauce doesn't have the same punch it used to; seeing as how it came out of something that would've been dropped in my McDonalds bag it must be produced at some central plant now. So that's the main disappointment. A few small quibles were the reduced quantity of hummus (I can usually get one or two extra pitas worth of mileage before) and maybe the quality of chicken is down.
I'm not saying that I'll stop going there, but my search for alternatives has begun. Suggestions?
