Resto - Large Format Feast

Anyone tried the Resto Large Format Feast? Am thinking of having a 4th of July dinner where they cook the entire animal, but would like to know if anyone has done this and/or how the experience was? Also, which animal did you pick from the below??

Thanks!

This season's offerings include:
* Spring Lamb
* Guinea Hen
* Suckling Pig
* Whole Striped Bass (M/A)
* Spring Goat
* Poularde en Demi-Deuil

Searching for Ricotta Cheesecake

Pepolino in Tribeca has a delicious ricotta cheesecake. Not a bakery where you can buy the whole cake, but as a dessert, it's so good.

The Redhead- A new favorite place

I also had a sub-par experience at Redhead. They didn't get every single part of the meal wrong by any means, but the pork chop was so overcooked it was like rubber.

We had the mushroom flatbread to start which was great, brussel sprouts with bacon also tasty - but arrived way before the entrees (was supposed to be a side) so we basically ate them as an appetizer.

Fried chicken was delicious, burger was on par - but nothing to write home about. So, no its wasn't awful - but it also wasn't a place I would call my new favorite place.

NY Noodletown casserole questions

If you like oysters, get the oyster + roast pork casserole. It's delicious. Their takeout is great also. Their type of food (roast meats etc) travel well.

GOOD EATS IN GRAMERCY

You should walk to Shake Shack and have a burger.

Best panini / sandwich in East Village?

I live in the East Village and am currently having a sandwich kick. However, I've really been drawing a blank as to where to go when my sandwich craving kicks in!

I pretty much make it to Porchetta and that's it - otherwise I need to go down to the LES to Tiny's or Ronnybrook and/or Amy's Bread at Chelsea Market. I've wanted to go to Terroir, but they're only open for dinner/snacks, and unfortunately my sandwich desires strick at lunchtime.

Where can I go in the neighborhood to get yummy sandwiches?

Momofuku Milk Bar Cookies?

I completely agree with hungrycomposer - the cookies now are differently shaped. I live across the street and unfortunately for my waistline frequent the joint at least 3x a week. I've found that certain types of cookies have changed shapes, whereas the other ones have stayed as before. Not sure if this depends on who is baking or whether they've actually consciously made this decision.

The double chocolate chip has changed the most in my opinion. Rather than being nice and perfectly chubby in the middle, the center now rises so much it's like a brownie/cake with cookie dough consistency. I was not pleased at all - this used to be my favorite cookie. I had waited for days for them to finally have it - and was utterly disappointed.

On the other hand, had a peanut butter cookie the next day which was perfectly proportioned and absolutely delicious. Cornflake marshmallow was still okay also.

My new favorite is the brownie pie. Now that double chocolate is out of the picture with it's over-fat belly, brownie pie is luscious rich and just divinely chocolate-y. And with a sample of the chocolate malt soft serve? Perfection.

Who Do You Think Makes The Best Caramels/Chocolates in NYC?

Bond St. chocolates have diving dark chocolate truffles too. Except the shop is not located on Bond St, which I find a little confusing.

Maison du Chocolat is fabulous too - second only to Jean Paul Hevin, but Hevin only has stores in Paris and Japan.

Tres leches cake?

Big Booty Bakery on 23rd and 8th has a fantastic tres leches cake. And also delicious red velvet cupcakes for those interested as well.

Momofuku Milk Bar-this ain't no Dairy Barn

I agree, they've worked out a lot of kinks. Now that foot traffic is more manageable and they've got a numbering system, it's a much more pleasant experience to go to Milk Bar. I tried the malted chocolate soft serve yesterday and think it's by far superior to the salty pistachio. Have still to try the graham cracker flavor.

Also had their new carrot cake - which is carrot cake with milk crumbs and cheesecake in between. It was good, but a little sweet for me. I think their banana cake is hands down their best cake. The chocolate chip cake with the lemon curd in the middle is a bit bizarre. Have still to try the pistachio one though - I was scared away by the lemon curd trauma from the cchip cake.

Had the brownie pie the other day as well, nothing to write home about - just a very dense fudge-like brownie with a salty graham cracker crust. I'd rather have a Valhrona chocolate truffle from Bond St. chocolates.

Although their cookies are a bit weird, there's something about them that is quite enticing. I've had most of them, but the cornflake marshmallow and double chocolate are my favorite. Something about the chewy, buttery texture makes it oh-so-good, but also really makes you wonder what they put in it to make it taste that way!

l'artusi vs dell'anima

Which would you recommend for one that hasn't tried either? Is one more casual/reasonably priced than the other?

quiet, cosy, L.E.S. or E. Vill

Aroma is great also. Wine bar with small dining area, owned by extremely friendly couple - fantastic homemade pastas and great wine list.

cinnamon bread

If you live in the E.Village, Moishe's Bakery has amazing babka. It's on 2nd Ave & 7th. Chocolate is my favorite, but the cinnamon is pretty delicious as well.

Communal Table Downtown

Hi,

Looking for a restaurant w/ good food and a friendly communal table for a large group (10 ppl or so) - not too formal, fun environment, good food a must. Know of a few, but there has to be more, I'm sure--

Back Forty
A Casa Fox
Socarrat
Graffiti

Any thoughts on the above would be appreciated or other suggestions welcome!

Mini desserts???

The Bakery at Whole Foods also has a healthy selection of mini-desserts. Especially if you're looking for seasonal treats.

Jean-George's or Daniel: most romantic?

You can sit side by side at the small oval tables they have at JG. But if you want to sit side by side at Daniel, you can request to sit corner to corner at a square table as well (usually for four).

I haven't been to Daniel since they remodeled, but I've had better dining experiences at JG - more creativity, better execution. And the marshmallows at the end are the best. Very intimate and warm environment.

best cake in NYC?

Caffe Falai has a great crepe cake as well. I think it's called the Creme Brulee Crepe Cake.

Best Turkey Burger

Westville East has a delicious turkey burger served on a portuguese muffin. You can get it with sweet potato fries instead of regular french fries, which are divine.

Game in NYC

I'm definitely going to check it out - it will hurt the walletbook much less than daniel's wild game festival (though I'd love to go one day!), and I never knew that rattlesnake qualified as wild game!

Game in NYC

Just saw that Savoy also has pheasant on their menu at the moment--

Game in NYC

I just went to Picholine's website and see that they have Wild Scottish Game on the menu, thanks!

Game in NYC

Anyone know of any restaurants in NYC that serve game in the fall?

Or perhaps a better question: Do people eat game in NYC? Loved it in Europe during the season, but I've rarely seen it on menus here in New York, only a guinea hen or venison here and there...

pumpkin baked goods?

pumpkin cupcakes w/ cream cheese frosting at Sugar Sweet Sunshine are delish--

Market Table, Little Owl, August or ?

FYI - Socarrat is no longer BYO, boyfriend was there last Friday for a boy's night out all ready with their bottles of wine and unfortuantely they've gotten their liquor license already. However, you can pay the $25 corkage fee and still BYO, which is what they did.
