Excellent Peruvian food in L.A.?

I like Mario's too. El Rocoto is a good place for those wanting a "nicer" atmosphere and a variety of dishes to choose from... like halibut sashimi.

Kooky, but good - Clearman's Steak N Stein (Pico Rivera)

Oh cool. Well as far as I remember Steak n' Stein does not offer rice pilaf.

I believe North Woods serves rice pilaf while Steak n' Stein serves baked potatoes.

Favorite Asian-Style pastries in/around SGV?

Nope. I'm wrong...we had a strawberry half moon, taro marbled, and a chocolate something something...the favorites were the first two.

Favorite Asian-Style pastries in/around SGV?

I've tried to stayed away from pastries but I used to go to Kee Wah regularly... My family liked the half moon cakes from 85C most recently (the 'regular' one and the strawberry one) along with the marbled taro cake.

What are some of your favorite kitchen tricks that you'd be hesitant to admit to foodies?

I used your secret recipe for tonight's dinner and loved it... Thank you. :)

L.A. Dish of the Month, January 2015 -- CHILI

Went to Portillo's in Buena Park and tried their chili dog... theirs has beans in it. It had a bit of a spicy kick to it that I liked. It wasn't a gloppy mess of something too spicy or sweet...or bland. It was simple and good.

"Avoid popcorn chicken at Quest Cafe at all cost."

Uh oh. Gastro issue?

Didn't know about Omar's...my colleague got lunch from there a couple weeks ago so must be a recent thing.

Hey Ipsedixit! ClarissaW Covers Our Back on the Superiority of Los Angeles Chinese Food Over New York

*lol* all I know is that I feel blessed to have incredible Chinese food options so close to home.

I've been eating lunch more regularly around the Artesia area so now I'm a bit more familiar... though definitely still learning. I'm a little confused about Aga because from the reviews on Yelp it's been open for a while (2013?) yet yesterday I noticed a "Soft Opening" sign.... I went inside and took a look at their menu. I was already picking up food from Muse so I didn't order anything. I didn't notice the sign last week.

The "Gastro" thing...

They were free range, organic, and gluten-free!

When do you stop using nonstick pans?

At less that $30 this is a great deal. Think I'll buy 2 as well. Thanks for the tip!

The "Gastro" thing...

I'm noticing a lot of poke. I like poke. Had poke tacos at Amor Y Tacos. Tasty, but still...

Looking for a nice dinner in North OC area.

This place has been on my bookmarks for a while but I haven't been, although my friend has eaten there a few times with his family and they liked it... pictures on yelp look good.

Place to buy fresh seafood mix in LA?

Mmm 7 Mares soup....

Kirin to reimburse misled consumers

Reminds me of labeling of other things like olive oils and even tomatoes. If the source is important to the consumer then they gotta pay closer attention.

Kirin to reimburse misled consumers

I wonder if we can be reimbursed for the Kirins ordered at restaurants. Wouldn't mind some help with paying off some holiday bills.

Colonia Publica (Fideo Pop-Up by Chef Ricardo Diaz)

Looking forward to trying it...I was there last week and realized that Colonia Publica took over the old Franco Trattoria space. I didn't know they had closed the restaurant. The owners of Franco were very nice people and the food was good.

Adventures in Hipster Service

I wonder if it's the same owner as I remember (tall big guy). I practically lived at Cacao when I lived walking distance from there... the owner would get annoyed if we stayed there too long when we attempted to do some midterm or finals cramming...he was a character.

Screening of "The Search for General Tso" (with an interview of "Chandavkl" aka David Chan)

I'm wanting to re-watch it too. lol I also want to see the special that came on afterwards which I missed, but recorded (Manners of Downton Abbey)...I heard it was informative and interesting.

Screening of "The Search for General Tso" (with an interview of "Chandavkl" aka David Chan)

I should've gone. You're right. There are still a few screenings left this week but there won't be special appearances... or chicken.

Screening of "The Search for General Tso" (with an interview of "Chandavkl" aka David Chan)

I really wanted to go but couldn't make it unfortunately... I mistakenly thought the Downton Abbey premiere was at 8pm and I didn't want to miss it. Sounds like it was a great event.

Best General Tso Chicken in LA?

I want to try May's Kitchen (in Artesia) for General Tso since it's close to work. Maybe next week.

Who's providing the chicken at the event? I hope they bring enough food.

Restaurant Week (Jan 19-Feb 1)

Bazaar is one I'd like to try out for sure. I'd like to see Bashan's menu but it's not up yet. One that I'll go to regardless is Aqui Es Texcoco...it's been on my list to try and I'm lagging.

Philippe The Original Takes Plastic After Only 106 Years !

That's exactly how my pseudo dad feels about this place and I respect that appreciation for history and 'honest grub,' as you put it.
