Downtown Seafood

Hi there. I'll be in Seattle pretty soon so just wondering, after your half day excursion in downtown, are these places (and the items you ordered) ones you'd go back to? All sound great.

Organic Chicken

Costco seems like the best deal...Sprouts has Rosie's for $2.99/lb.

Need a new place for Chinese beef rolls... :(

I was at Mama's Lu for dinner last night and I thought the wrap was a little on the chewy side. The beef/sauce/cilantro filling was tasty though.

Peruvian Food: Los Balcones del Peru, Mamita's and Mario's

Just thought I'd piggyback off this great old post... I happened to have eaten at the Mario's in La Mirada recently and it was really good. The Seafood Saltado was amazing. It had such great flavor (nice and smoky and spiced just right). The Ceviche was excellent although maybe just a tad bit too spicy for me (maybe not for some whose taste buds can handle the intense heat); reminded me of really spicy Aguachile. My only gripe was their Yucca. It was not edible. Overall though I think it's still a good spot to go to if you're in that area.

Relocated from Venice to Whittier

Besides the Bottle Room, you have another option of going to the Rustic Monk in Uptown Whittier on Greenleaf. Gastropub that has a nice selection of beers and wine. Solid food. Excellent service.

Relocated from Venice to Whittier

FYI (though I'm sure you know since you live close by), there is a Sprouts on Whittier and Santa Gertrudes that makes for a good combo grocery trip along with TJ's.

the flintridge proper

I think the cocktails are good and the atmosphere is pretty cool in a cozy-kinda way. Great service too.

Favorite Korean restaurant for Lunch?

Chung Ki Wa on Olympic is pretty good.

Los Angeles Soup Dumpling Flowchart

Awesomeness. Thanks for sharing!

Monterey/Carmel Report: Aubergine, Monterey Bay Aquarium Restaurant, Henry's BBQ

Will be at Monterey this week so Henry's BBQ will definitely be on our radar. Thanks for the tip!

Killer Shrimp will return!

Memories of "slurp slurp slurp slurp slurp" come to mind. Can't wait.

What are your favorite dives and cheap eats WORTH THE DRIVE?

Cook's Tortas (Monterey Pk)- BBQ pulled pork & shrimp po' boy tortas are tops for me
Ciro's (ELA) for their avocado salsa
101 Noodle (Alhambra) for a beef roll fix
Troy's (ELA) has tasty big fat bfast burritos

That's a new one for me. I gotta try Pharo's out and compare the two.

Had the pastrami chili cheese fries at The Hat in Monterey Park last week. They still knock it out of the park (or maybe that's just my diet being knocked out).

The MOST AMAZING/TRANSCENDENTAL burger that I wasn't expecting: Glencrest BBQ in...... Venice???

Damn. I can't believe I haven't been yet. That'll be my to-go to place for the 4th of July weekend.

Chow Gold Line - rails to good food

I concur. However, you'll need to be very patient and be ready to wait a while for your food and drinks (service is slow).

Din Tai Fung-Vegetarian POV

Maybe they need to create veggie-friendly dishes a la Happy Family in Monterey Park? That would be great but I don't think that'll be happening any time soon. Their cooks look busy enough as it is.

MAY is National Burger Month(?): any suggestions (current please)?

Went to Tops recently and had their Kobe Bistro burger. Still pretty good in my book.

desserts---what is your favorite dessert around los angeles?!

Crema de Chocolate at Bar Pinxto. It's simple but oh so good.

Rice balls and Ginger Bean Milk at Yung Ho Tou Chiang

Thanks you two. Now it makes sense to me.

Rice balls and Ginger Bean Milk at Yung Ho Tou Chiang

I've tried looking for this place but for some reason I still haven't see it as I drive by, and I'm somewhat familiar with the area. Is it across the street from 101 Noodle? If it's plainly obvious where it is, then maybe I'm not so familiar with the area as I had thought. lol

Alhambra

There's a Vegan restaurant on Main (by the new Alondra Hot Wings) called Loving Hut. I haven't been but have been wanting to try it out. It looks cute from the outside.

Cook's Tortas

This is insane. I know this place. I pass by it all the time and it always looks closed or empty... glad I read this.

I Want Fries, the Sweet Potato Kind

The Arsenal on Lincoln.

More New Dumplings

The pork dumplings with fennel and lotus sound tasty.

This is not another best sushi topic

My fave is Pancho (the weightlifting chef) but he's only there certain days. Pancho isn't his real name, btw.

Have any Chowhound Faves Broken Your Heart

What a bummer. I went to Daisy Mint and meant to do a little write up but didn't get a chance. We had the wonton appetizer, pad thai, and the name of the soup escapes me but all the food tasted good to us. The tea was aromatic and delicious, and the servers were efficient and friendly. Anyway, sucks you didn't have a similar experience.

The place that broke my heart was Hungry Cat, but I will go back again someday.

Best cheap Food in LA.

One of my favorite stops for cheap eats: the taco truck/stand on Olympic and McBride in ELA. In my opinion some pretty kick ass tacos de lengua and tripas.... I ask for 1 tortilla only to make it "lighter."
