Best Desserts in LA?

Gawd I'm having serious cravings for their desserts! Glad I made a res for this weekend. lol

Dog Friendly Restaurants

Good suggestions here - I'll add Della Terra to the mix.

L.A. Dish of the Month, June 2015 -- PIZZA

Not that impressed with the pizza at Simmzy's in LB. Tried 2 different ones - Margherita and 'Cue. Just meh. I knew better too but we had our dogs with us so we had to sit in a patio area.

Amor y Tacos: No Amor

I noticed the thread was gone when I was gonna respond to you....weird.

Well like I said before it's a bummer that the place bombed for you....I went on Saturday for lunch and it was super chill. Families, couples, etc were dining...service was very attentive and nice, the lady making tortillas was going full throttle... we had a good experience. It's not like mind-blowing or anything but it's a place I'd go back to. We had mole tots (tots were nice and crispy) and various tacos, including the poke tacos.

Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY Thread - April 2015 [OLD]

YAY for me too. It was a big hit tonight at the baseball game!

Hawaiian poke

I like Jus' Poke too but haven't tried WF's bowls... I had the poke salads at Gelson's (spicy and non-spicy). I'd rec the non-spicy and add your own.

Chef Geng's (Rosemead)

It's on my list now too. :)

Chef Geng's (Rosemead)

Curious if anyone's been? I'm procrastinating on a deadline and did some looking...found it on Yelp. Looks like it's been open for about a month. They serve cold glass noodles, cumin lamb/beef, dumplings, sweet potato cake, wonton soup... I need to eat now.

Favorite Asian-Style pastries in/around SGV?

I had the calamari roll at 85 Degrees and it was pretty good for something on the savory side.

I don't understand Jeni's

I think it's funny how long the lines have been at Jeni's....reminds me of the days when the lines were that long for Pinkberry.

Burger Parlor in downtown Fullerton

It's good stuff.

Taco Maria brick + mortar 1st Report, Costa Mesa - Excellent Tasting Menu

Oh I wish the strawberry was noticeable.....I didn't hear that part when he talked to us about it.... I just heard "atole" and was ready to dig in.

Taco Maria brick + mortar 1st Report, Costa Mesa - Excellent Tasting Menu

Me too! It tasted like the traditional version to me (no fruit)....I notice that he does that for his sweet stuff...I feel like it's a homage to his family by keeping it simple and traditional....felt like I was drinking love. I'm an emotional person/taster. lol

Oh man did we use expletives for that one.....wowwwwww

Taco Maria brick + mortar 1st Report, Costa Mesa - Excellent Tasting Menu

I should've asked him on Saturday....this was their offering that evening (still 4 courses...and a taste of atole for a still no dessert). The atole was awesome....but I wanted a gallon's-worth, not a measly sip! Always leaves me wanting more....grrrrr

Whole Foods Brea

That's awesome! My bank account is not happy though.

Taco Maria brick + mortar 1st Report, Costa Mesa - Excellent Tasting Menu

Yes....the current dessert is more of a bite (a good one at that) but as you guys mentioned, the stakes are going to be higher as customers' expectations will also be inflated.

Thanks for the heads up. Was afraid of the price hike coming...just like with gas!

No. 1 Charcoal BBQ - Monterey Park

I ran a search for it before I posted but didn't result in your original one. That's funny that they take Chinese money... I wonder if I'd get a funny look if I show up with dollar bills.

No. 1 Charcoal BBQ - Monterey Park

Lol.... While mutton soup sounds good in this weather, I'll take my beat up car elsewhere then.

Driving from LA to SF on 101, where to stop?

I'll throw in something very simple for breakfast in Solvang. There's Paula's Pancake House (next door is Olsen's Bakery) for pancakes, etc. and Solvang Restaurant for Danish donuts and sausage. Or you can just grab coffee and pastry goods at Olsen's and be done with it. You'll meet your carb requirement for the :)

No. 1 Charcoal BBQ - Monterey Park

Just curious if anyone has tried this place? Just noticed it as we drove down Garfield and it looks like it's been open since October.

Monrovia to Long Beach for Breakfast on Sunday?

Was there for brunch on Sunday and the wait wasn't that bad...and even if it takes a while it's a pretty cool spot to hang out until they call your name.

Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY - February 2015 [old]

I thought y'all were talking about the Pesto Genova...I looked in my fridge and checked the ingredients and was like, no potato ingredients here! lol

Recs for Sushi and More in Long Beach?

For sushi in Long Beach I'll also add Kinoya.

Restaurants with chef's counter seating (Kappo-style)

Can't see much of the kitchen but the chef will come out and chat with you all you want when at the chef's table....Union.

Mr Taster is leaving Los Angeles! crickets. You just can't hear folks like me discussing with ppl (in real life) your take on a proper pastrami sam, muffuletta, and the smoothness of Broguiere's milk. :)

Mr Taster is leaving Los Angeles!

Mr. Taster, congrats on the new job! You were among my biggest influences when I first started reading Chowhound back in 2005 (approx) so I thank you for your entertaining and enlightening posts throughout the years on the LA board. I felt at "home" too when I found that there were others like me. :) I will miss seeing your posts.
