Happy Hanukkah Everyone! What's for dinner?

Beautifully done PGL! I'm impressed by your perseverance. Enjoy the fruits of your labor. :) I love the feeling of enjoying a delicious meal (and/or dessert) that has been made with love (lots o' work).

Looks really really good.

Do they accept EBT?

Happy Hanukkah Everyone! What's for dinner?

I'm sure they'll come out great! I was thinking of heading over to Katella or Bixby's after work but willing to stop by your place as well. lol

McDonald's Burgers Ranked Worst in the U.S. - Cutting Menu Items

The ranking isn't a shocker, but with their upcoming strategic changes I wonder how they plan to improve the taste of their food.

McDonald’s will "remove eight items altogether from its menu and would only offer 11 extra value meals, rather than 16, to address a chronic criticism customers and investors alike have lobbed at it: service that is bogged down as workers struggle with learning and preparing too many menu items."

"As part of its turnaround efforts, McDonald’s is currently testing 'Create Your Taste,' which allows customers to personalize their burger, a key part of fixing McDonald’s image problem. But it has its work cut out for it: a reader poll by product testing organization Consumer Reports released in July found McDonalds burgers ranked as the worst in the U.S."

Large Curd Cottage Cheese?

I agree...Friendship cottage cheese is good. Gelson's in Long Beach carries it. Not easy to find, though. They are located in the cream cheese area by customer service...not by the other cottage cheeses.

First Married Christmas

Awesome idea.

L.A. Dish of the Month, December 2014 -- TAMALES

I haven't tried their chile cheese tamales...just pork and chicken. Will try those next time. Thx for the tip. :)

L.A. Dish of the Month, December 2014 -- TAMALES

Your tamale looks much meatier than mine was...and "Me Gusta" is where I got mine from at the LB Farmers Market. I agree with you about the masa...soft and not heavy.

L.A. Dish of the Month, December 2014 -- TAMALES

At the Long Beach Farmers Market

Mexican and Middle Eastern tamales (okay prob doesn't apply but close enough). The Mexican one is chicken with a combo of green and red sauce (too much masa and not enough chicken) and the Middle Eastern one is stuffed with kale (my friend called it boring). That with some dolma and strawberry pineapple lemonade made it an okay brunch but a nice Sunday outing.

Coconut oil as a moisturiser

I used to use coconut oil a lot and now I'm using avocado oil. I like that it absorbs better and doesn't have a noticeable scent. It can also be mixed with other oils, such as coconut, should one want a certain scent.

Taco Maria - Wine Pairing?

We had come up with a lot of possibilities. Is this a foodie group? Can we join online or can we sign up right now? Should we ask them if it's an invite-only group? Let's invite ourselves! Is there a fee? You go ask them...no you go ask them...rock paper scissors!

Taco Maria - Wine Pairing?

A bit late but wanted to post a little blurb on dinner at TM last weekend. Hard to describe how good it was...I thought I had floated in the air a few times. This is a great place to go and I hope more of you guys check this place out.

Thanks for the recs re: the wine. Great call. Fyi, their micheladas are good too.

The porridge, as stated elsewhere, is ineffincredible.

Chef Carlos is the man...so talented and humble. He shared his stories about his time in the Bay Area and his transition back home to SoCal. He gels really well with his team and with his customers (We were considering crashing a certain group's dinner party because Chef Carlos created a truffle menu for them. We resisted temptation, though, and avoided embarrassment. lol) Chef Carlos is someone that cares about making his customers happy and it shows.

i can also imagine an egg on top of that...:)

Has anyone seen me?

I wonder how much the ice cream will cost at the LA store...it's $12.99 at WF... yeeeikes... Must be good stuff

Arg....good point. Tamale w/chili sounds awesome.

CHILI... I might end up eating someone's homemade tamales and I know I won't go out and buy them if that's the case.

Big Dave’s Egg Nog at The Hungry Cat

anyone had it? From LAist:

"Now that Turkey Day has passed, we can officially say that the holiday season has begun. Scary as that may seem, there's a positive side to it all. Head on over to the Hungry Cat, where they'll be toasting the season with their annual egg nog offering. Chef David Lentz brings his father's famous recipe back to the restaurant each year, and it's kicking off now through NYE. You can order it by the glass or take home a flip-top glass bottle for $38 a liter ($34 for refills). The classic nog sure beats the stuff you'll get at the super market, and is available at both the Santa Monica and Hollywood locations."

China Red for dinner?

Moms are so cute.

What type of squash is this and how do I cook it?

Ignoring the color, looks kinda like an apple. I agree with the above that good oil, s&p should do the trick.

Tell us about your Thanksgiving disaster

Aw that sucks. Especially after all that work, but stuff happens. And Mr. Baby Doll eating it was a nice touch.

Thanksgiving Day Live

Happy Thanksgiving. :)

We finished all our grocery shopping at several different stores between last night and this morning. Fortunately it wasn't crowded in any one of them (whew). Making lists helped a lot.

Everything else is being done today. Prepping now... Wish I had premade the cranberry sauce and coleslaw but time didn't allow. Glad we waited to get fresh-baked buns this morning...since making them at home was unrealistic for today.

Planning on getting the mashed potatoes and green beans done closer to dinner time.
