This was a great find. I had totally forgotten about this little restaurant on a quiet street in KW.
My friend and i shared a meal of stone crabs and the 24 oz porterhouse that was cooked to perfection.
Much, much, much better than Louis Backyard.
If you're in the mood for prime aged beef, Michaels is the place.
If your looking for a romantic spot, not filled with tourists, but more of locals, this is the place.
highly recommended.

Dining in Key West
We stumbled onto this place last night after visiting with a friend on Catherine Street.
Not only was it reasonably priced, a mom and pop joint, food made fresh to order, and very nice wait staff.
I had the skirt steak and my friend ordered the frita vaca.
Our food was delicious!
And it was nice that it wasn't as overpriced as the rest of the restaurants on the island.
i counted 5 tables inside and lots of places to tie your bike up outside.
we sat at the counter because the place was filled with people.. all locals.
i will definitely come back here the next time i come back to KW.
highly recommended!

Hey Carnivores from Vero Beach to Ft. Pierce/Stuart
I am meeting a friend for a lunchtime date and we would like to sit on the ocean, have a view and eat meat.
We're not into sandwiches, salads or fried food. We're into meat, unadulterated meat. Seafood would be an option if it isn't fried or breaded....
Does anyone have a restaurant suggestion for a good meat dish between Vero Beach and Ft. Pierce/Stuart.
I've been to Ocean Grill and Waldo's in Vero, neither of these will do, unless Waldo's has cleaned up their menu...
I've been to the Original Tiki Bar in Ft. Pierce, but can't remember if they have any decent meat dishes on their menu.
Any Carnivores have any good suggestions for us?

What does South Florida have against eating whole fish?
Goldie's on 441 around Miami Gardens Drive is a Bahamian restaurant that serves up whole fish, tons of conch and Bahamian beer!

I'm going to also recommend Presidente market just north of Pembroke Rd, west side of Federal Hwy.. Cheapest meat in town!!! they have fresh snapper in big ice chests sitting in front of the fish case.
I want to find a butcher that keeps the fat on all his cuts of meat. I can't stand all this meat I'm finding that has all the glorious flavour enhancing fat removed. Some of us believe in healthy eating!!
I also wanted to add that Winn Dixie is the only store around that puts whole prime rib on sale at great prices.. No one else in town does that, and for a Carnivore, that's really important to find good protein at good prices..

the closest to the old fashioned greasy pizza of decades ago can still be found at Mauro's on Hollywood Blvd, downtown Hollywood. (Next to the PRL bar)
Butcher in Dade/Broward??
I've searched and searched and I do believe that the Butcher is extinct. There is no such thing as a meat market where you choose a piece of meat that still has all the beautiful white fat still attached, and when you have chosen your elixir of marbled beef, the Butcher wraps it in butcher paper and writes on it....
No such animal anymore, huh..
No more sides of beef coming to a meat market where there is still the all mighty marbling still attached....
We have lost a great institution.
Where to go in Miami...
I finally snagged a date with someone that I've been trying to meet for awhile now..
He's a native Miamian, as I am..
We're not into tourists, crowds..
He lives in Homestead, me in Hollywood.
I thought maybe we could meet halfway, somewhere in Miami.
But where?
on the Miami River?
downtown?
Flagler?
Anyone have a suggestion?

Looking For Meatfest in Dade-Broward
A group of Carnivores want to converge on Miami-Ft. Lauderdale and need a list of places to go eat abundant quality meat. I'm not thinking of Mortons or S & W...
I'm thinking more like Brazilian Steak Houses.
I've been to Chima and that was good and expensive.
I've been to The Knife in Hallandale--- when it first opened and was decent.
(have read bad reviews of this place)
Any other suggestions?
Most of these people will eat 1-2 lbs of meat at a meal.

If I'm not mistaken, the veggies at the Farmer's Market there come from local farmers.

ah yes..... the sirloin burger at Le Tub is nothing to whisper about.. It's huge, it's fresh, never frozen and they serve it ala cart. it's big enough for two people.

i just had to put my 2 cents in here about Publix...
one evening while strolling past the fish dept, one of the employees began talking to me. I told her that I usually buy my shrimp from Penn Dutch and feed my cat. she offered to "give" me 5 tiger shrimp for my cat because she felt like it.
i took the shrimp home and peeled them and put them in a dish for my cat.
she wouldn't touch them.
now.......... if my cat isn't going to touch the shrimp from Publix, i guess i shouldn't either!!!!
my cat knew best!

Being a native, I thought everyone ate their fish whole....
but the non natives prefer the skin, head and bones removed.

if you drive up and down 441 through Dade & Broward, you will come across all kinds of Bahamian and Jamaican places that fry whole fish (sorry, i've not seen whole grilled fish in these places) and serve it to you hot and crispy...
you just learn to eat like a native when living down here! :)

neither of us know any neighborhoods.
neither of us want to get lost.
can anyone suggest a decent restaurant where two people can sit together and talk for a couple of hours and eat good chow, along 826 from say......

fish monger.... Penn Dutch Food Market in Hollywood. Go see Robert for the freshest fish in town. go early when he's cutting up the fish!

skip Hollywood Beach's Taverna Opa and Giorgio's Restaurant. Food quality and service have gone down so badly, it's not worth losing your money and complaining. Giorgio's Bakery is run by another Mgr entirely, and the food is quite decent.

Best Scallion Pancake?
Fantastic Chinese Restaurant in Chinatown has the best doggone scallion pancakes i've had up north. In Hallandale Beach FL, go to Lychee Garden. and if you go to the Star Chinese Market in Hollywood FL, they make them homemade.
