restaurants in niagra on the lake area
We will be staying in Nigara on the Lake for 5 nights in mid October. We are not familiar with the area at all. Any suggestions on places to eat? Nice-ish, but not too expensive. Also, has anyone taken the trolley tour of wineries. Any suggestions about that?
Silpat question
I have used a silpat liner in the past, but had a hard time getting it squeaky clean. It always seemed to have a greasy residue. Has anyone had a similar experience or has anyone used one successfully? What was I doing wrong?
Unused cake batter
I love to make cupcakes, but don't always need 24 or more at a time. Can I make the cupcakes I need and freeze the rest of the batter? Would that work with both/either cake mix batters or scratch batters?
Jumbo Muffin Pan
You can use the giant tins to make large cupcakes; just use your normal cupcake recipe and put the batter in the pans. I think about 30-35 minutes and then test them for doneness.
Kitchenaid vs Cuisinart food processor?
I have only had Cuisinart food processors and have loved them! I recently bought a new 12 cup processor-it has a small 4 cup bowl. I use the small bowl for herbs, grinding spices etc. and the large bowl for everything else. I really like the shredding and slicing discs since they are adjustable. It also has a leak proof seal. All in all, well worth the money!
new cuisinarts food processor?
If this thread appears down the page, I apologize, but I'm short on time. Have anyone bought/tried the new Elite Cuisinarts food processor? 3 size bowls, multiple blades, self-locking blade...I am very intetested!
Need Silver Palate Peach Cake Recipe
Peach Cake
4 tbsp. unsalted butter + extra for greasing the pan
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup unbleached all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 cup milk
3 ripe peaches, peeled and sliced
Topping:
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. grated nutmeg
4 tbsp. unsalted butter
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a heavy 9" skillet well. Prepare the cake: cream the butter and sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in egg. Sift the dry ingredients together. Beat half into the creamed mixture. Repeat; beating well. Pour the batter into the prepared skillet. Arrange the peach slices on top of the batter. Bake for 25 minutes. Meanwhile, cut the ingredients for the topping together in a small bowl with a fork. After the cake has baked for 25 minutes, open the oven and quickly crumble the topping over the peaches. Close the oven and bake until the cake is firm and has pulled away from the edges of the skillet, another 8 minutes. Serve warm, accompanied by a pitcher of heavy cream. 8 portions
Quiche Emergency!
I love quiche and make them often, but I can't eat them if the filling is jiggly! I have found that substituting sour cream for milk/cream works for me. Also, let the quiche sit for 5-10 minutes after baking.
Chinese in/near Grayslake?
Does anyone know of a good Chinese restaurant in or near Grayslake? We are willing to drive a distance to get there?
A Satisfying Pasta Dish
I made this last night and it was delicious, but definitely not low anything! Meatless tortelinni (I used cheese and spinach). Sauce was browned butter with balsamic vinegar and salt and pepper-about 6 tbsp. butter to 2 tbsp. vinegar. Top with shredded Parmesan and toasted walnuts. Yummy! It's from one of the Food Network shows.
What were your Superbowl "Hits"
i_eat_a_lot_of_ice_cream, when you made Ina's brownie pudding from her newest cookook, did you add any additional chocolate other than the cocoa powder. My list of ingredients only lists the cocoa, but the insert picture and text talks about other chocolate. I think my recipe is missing something. Can you help?
Northern Mich
Traverse City: Love Mabel's for breakfast! Also like North Peak very much. Petoskey: my faves are White Caps, City Park Grill and American Spoon Cafe for lunch (and gelato). In Harbor Springs, there was a small French-ish lunch place on one of the side streets-I'm sorry I can't remember the name. I also agree that Sunday Brunch at the Bay View Inn is great.
