Cannelle Patisserie in Queens

I find myself making excuses to drive there. We were there last week and tried the palmier. It was buttery, crispy and just the right amount of sugar. The almond croissant was freakin' out of this world. They should market that filling. It would be great on toast, on pancakes, on bread, or just as a snack. I know that it packs a lot of calories, but I must resist. May be next year I'll give it up for Lent.

Cannelle Patisserie in Queens

My brother and I went there on Saturday. The croissants were flaky and buttery. We were amazed at the number of people who came in the door. This certainly is great place. I can't wait to go back there and try the other desserts. It was well worth the drive from the city.

Kitchenaid mixer attachments in New York

try the mezzanine at Zabar's

Best Pecan Pie for purchase in Manhattan?

Just stop by Zabar's. It's pretty good.

Archway Oatmeal Cookies

I got mine on Ave C and 4th St.

7D Dried Mangos in the city?

You can always try the Filipino grocery stores in Woodside or the Asian markets in any of the Chinatowns. I've gotten Filipino dried mangoes, but don't recall if they were 7D,

Filipino Restaurant/Bar for Pacquiao Fight?

How about TIto Rad's on Qns Blvd and 49th?

best fried chicken?

Popeye's! Greasy and moist -- yummy.

Archway Oatmeal Cookies

I found them at Fine Fare. They're almost as good as the original. The packaging is red and not see-through as the original and they're slightly thinner.

Spanish Harlem

Try Sandy's Restaurant on the corner of 116th and 2nd Ave. The chicken is succulent. And the price is quite reasonable.

Guide to Woodside

I don't get it. You don't like Filipino food, but you prefer Engeline's. What gives? So, am I to deduce that you think Engeline's food is mediocre.

Guide to Woodside

I agree. Perlas' crispy pata is great!

Where Can I Buy Pork Belly?

Why not just go down to Chinatown? Get on the 6 train and get off Canal. There's a butcher on Mulberry just off Canal Street. I've gotten pork belly there and it's probably cheaper than Lobel's. You might also try Jeffrey's in the Essex Market.

Macapuno Ice Cream

Anyone know where I can buy macapuno ice cream in Manhattan. I know that I can get them in Queens, but where in the city can I get it? It's usually in a tin can and sold in freezer section. Anyone know of any asian markets that carry it? Thanks.

Mallorcan Ensaimadas?

What's the difference between Mallorcan and Filipino ensaimadas?

Beer Lao, Amarit Lager, San Miguel, Mahou

Nope. they don't have it. I was there about four months ago.

Beer Lao, Amarit Lager, San Miguel, Mahou

I'll put that place on my list. My search for Mahou continues, although it seems that I just go through a beer distributor and order ahead of time to get it. But there's gotta a place in Queens that sells it.

East Manor in Elmhurst

Yes, it's a buffet. The Peking Duck is great!!!!

Do you guys really like Momofuku Milk Bar?

I went with friends and we ordered cakes. I thought the cakes were okay. From what I've been reading about the place, I wanted to be wowed, but instead, I was underwhelmed. I thought the chocolate cake and the dulce de leche cake were forgettable. However, someone in the group loved the dulce de leche cake. The only thing that we agreed on that was interesting was the hand stamped silver peach on the box. If you walk two blocks south, Blackhound would be a better bet IMHO.

Great Cake Designers/Bakeries in Manhattan?

I agree that Cupcake Cafe has great designs. I had them create a design of Calvin and Hobbes playing volleyball for my brother's birthday a few year back and the design was fantastic. They're cakes a pretty good. I ordered the cake from their 9th avenue site, but they also have one on 18th b/w 6th and 5th.

Beer Lao, Amarit Lager, San Miguel, Mahou

Thanks for the information. I'll check out the places in Bklyn and when in Elizabeth, I'll check out Bayway. I think we'll be seeing San Mig more often now that SMC sold its brewery to Kirin. A year ago, it was hard to find San Mig except for a few places in Jersey City.

Beer Lao, Amarit Lager, San Miguel, Mahou

Thanks for the information. I did find my way to Chinatown. The owner was kind and bought a whole case of 24 beers for 38$. Not bad, I guess. I did find San Miguel at Community Beverage though their selection of Asian beer is limited to San Mig, Red Horse, Asahi. They've got lots of microbrews, and European beers. It's a really cool place. The guy at the counter said that they can special order stuff - will try next time. Still looking for Mahou and Amarit Lager.

Beer Lao, Amarit Lager, San Miguel, Mahou

Does anyone know where I can find these beers being sold in a Queens market/bodega? I know that they're off the beaten track, but I'm having a party for my brother this afternoon and would like to have them. Some bars carry them but they're in the city, don't really want to travel that far.

I'm going to try the Asian supermarkets along Broadway and see if they have them. But Mahou (Spanish beer) don't really know where to start. Thanks in advance.

Whats your go-to on the LES?

Clinton Street Baking Co. There's no crowd and the food is great. They have beer and burger for 12 bucks before 8 PM.

Need Birthday Cake-PURPLE FROSTING! Help!

If you're a bit adventurous, you can try the Ube (purple yam) cake at Cindee's Cakes located at 198th Street and Jamaica Avenue. In fact the entire cake is purple. It's made with purple yam. While you're there, you can also can get one of those prepacked purple yam ice cream.

East Village Bakery Recos

Blackhound is the way go. They've got lots of flavors. Just select one.

Bakery Cookies

Veniero's.
I've been going there for years. Despite the flack it's been getting over the years, the butter cookies are still worth the trip. I especially enjoy the cookies with the chocolate in the middle. I can't stand jellies, so it's all chocolate for me. The regina biscuits and S biscuits are great for dunking in coffee.

Sprinkles Cupcakes in Palo Alto

Howdy. I'm visiting SF for a couple of days from NYC and had craving for cupcakes. We drove to Stanford and had a red velvet and chocolate cupcakes at Sprinkle's. The store was elegant and the counter help was kind. The cupcakes, on the other hand, were not very good. I found them moist, but the icing was gritty. Today, I was at Ghirardelli Square and found Kara's Cupcake. The design of the store was elegant and the counter help was kind. I had the chocolate and the Meyer Lemony Lemon. The cupcakes were moist and the icing was smooth. Both stores have the same style concept. It was like walking into a museum and the cupcakes were displayed beautifully. Overall, Kara's was way better than Sprinkle's. Back in NY, our cupcake stores aren't this elegant, they're rather homey compared to these two places. Why is that?

Dim Sum Chinatown friday night DINNER, party of 12, fun ambience, Want carts

As far as I know dim sum is usually done only in the morning through afternoon. My bet that it's not done at night is that restaurants serve dinner.
