Salting meat before cooking it

I salt most meats beforehand - chicken, turkey, roasts, steaks. Chemistry is fascinating, it enhances the meat IMO. http://www.seriouseats.com/2011/03/th...

Trader Joe's Yay/Nay Thread - November 2013 [Old]

I also like that Mac and cheese. Just FYI, lots of new Yays and Nays on the current thread http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/970817#

Asparagus season

There's usually local asparagus by now but the weather has been an issue. I have given up until at least May. For now, all I see is asparagus from Mexico.

Trader Joe's YAY/NAY - April 2014

To round out my nut butter adventures at TJs, I finally tried the last butter on my very long list -

NAY - salted peanut butter, similar runny texture as the unsalted but way too much salt for me even though it's only 6%. I love the unsalted version so I'll keep that around in addition to my all time favorite from Whole Foods (4% salt, but the salt is less distracting for some reason).

Trader Joe's ghee is weird!

I've been planning to buy some, if I do I'll report back. If you return it, perhaps ask them if anyone else has mentioned anything?

What's for Low-Carb Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner? #3

What an eye opening day of food?

Heavy cream....where have you been all my life? I'm so used to piles of egg whites that leave my physically full so I worried that a couple of eggs really wouldn't make a dent in my hunger, but with the heavy cream I was satiated for hours! The boar sausage was also delicious, I'm glad I picked up that impulse buy at Wegmans yesterday.

The combination of the soy and butter in the stir fry was delicious, just like a Japanese Steakhouse. Perhaps next time, I'll try to recreate that white sauce they serve.

Yummy! I'm looking forward to my weekly trip tomorrow. Not sure if all the vendors will be there, but worth a visit hopefully.

What's for Dinner #292 - The Hippity-Hop Edition!

It's such a gorgeous day! I soaked up some sun and now am being a loaf on the couch.

The plan for dinner that I decided on a few days ago is this beef stir fry with butter and soy sauce from Serious Eats http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/20.... I guess that will be what's for dinner though I'm really in the mood for a salad.

So strange, I was an idiot and decided to go to TJs this afternoon (yes, again. I just went yesterday) and it was empty. The parking lot was even empty which never happens there.

Yup, it was right next to the other packs. At TJs it's sold in a separated two pack which makes it even better for me.

Trader Joe's YAY/NAY - April 2014

I was itching to soak up some of the sunshine outside and went for a drive. I landed at TJs even though I went yesterday and had to buy something to justify the trip so grabbed the bacon cheddar. It was sooo delicious in scrambled eggs.

Bacon, spinach, Cheddar "quiche." It's my first quiche and the plan is to eat it for lunch this week.

Trader Joe's YAY/NAY - April 2014

YAY - sprouted firm tofu, I haven't seen this in many other stores. I really enjoyed it and it's same price as the other reasonably priced tofu.

Breakfast is a new treat for me - scrambled eggs with heavy cream and wild boar sausage

For dinner, it's beef and mushroom stir fry with soy sauce and butter with this recipe as the inspiration http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/20... using bison tip steak instead of flank.

I couldn't resist and bought the sprouted tofu yesterday. I used that instead and really liked it. The super firm will be used sometime this week.

Are you snacking on anything right now? **Springtime Edition**

True they are super expensive anywhere else. It reminds of when I happen to nibble on kimchi before work and then remember it has salted shrimp. I once had to buy a toothbrush, the lingering taste was too much and didn't want to share the fish smell with others in the office.

Well it was opened the day before and there might be a spoonful or two left. I'm not proud. I blame my deadlift workout, maybe my muscles needed it :)

Oh no cashews! I let them back in the house but they were quickly sealed in a jar.

Jar of crunchy almond butter. It's been that kind of day. I'll likely regret my transgression tomorrow but for now...

I guess I've been oblivious all of these years but never realized that Easter caused such a ruckus at the store. All the stores were a mess here too. Your dinner sounds great and I really like many of the Alexia products. The rolls saved a holiday dinner last year.

Menu Planning

Uh that doesn't seem odd to me :) I usually leave with a ton of bags. As I kid we'd leave the store with the back of a wagon full of bags and I'm an only child.

10 best Supermarkets

Love Harris Teeter. I live in Baltimore and until recently safeway has been closest but a Harris Teeter just opened right nearby so I won't be shopping at safeway much I imagine.

BOGO's -- how do they work where you are?

BOGO = BOGO. If you only buy one you pay full price. However, other similar deals are not the same. For example, if it's buy 5 for the price of 4 you usually get a discount no matter how many you buy.
