Best chocolate cake in L.A.?
Gelson's really? Wow! Does this include the chocolate cupcakes? Is there a special name for the cake at Gelson's?
Upstairs 2 - Another Rave
I definitely agree on how good the sticky toffe pudding is! I understand tritip's "off experience" because I have seen inconsistencies with the food. I have had different experiences at Upstairs 2, but most of the time it has been very pleasant. I like to sit a the bar though--it's a great place to chat with the bartender and try some great wines! Here was my recent review of the restaurant including photos:

Upstairs 2 (w/photos)
Upstairs 2 is great. After seeing a small snippet in the Food & Wine magazine about this place, I knew that Upstairs 2 was here to stay. Well, at least for the time being. The service as a whole may be lacking, but the food is good. It's an extremely comfortable space with a friendly staff (minus the host... he's not the friendliest person, but he's quite direct) this place is a regular haunt for a gal on the westside. Great Meal At Nook Bistro (w/photos)
OOH! I saw that on the menu too... is it a big portion? I love meat that falls off the bone! I've also heard raves about the burger at Nook. How does it compare to Father's Office?
Great Meal At Nook Bistro (w/photos)
Thanks Veggitales,
I think you would be totally fine dining alone, I might even try it myself soon! I went for dinner, but I know they have a lunch menu with some similar dinner choices along with some nice lunch items as well. Their lunch menu looked great though. I've heard some praise about their grilled albacore sandwich... go take a look at their website for their menus!

Great Meal At Nook Bistro (w/photos)
I finally got to check Nook Bistro out after hearing so many positive reviews. We arrived early, before the weekend crowd, and were greeted warmly by the host and waitress. Our menu included the New Zealand Green Lip Mussels, lentil soup, and a side of shiitake and gruyere bread pudding. All were wonderful! I'll definitely be going back again for their Mac and Cheese. Any other must-have recs? Thank you Chowhounds!

Japanese fast-food on the westside?
I don't think they have katsu on their menu, but Saks in Westwood has a great terriyaki! There is dark meat and white meat options. Saks brings back such fond memories at UCLA as a student when you're poor and hungry!
Vegas - Commander's Palace Review (w/photos)
I had a great lunch last week at Commander's Palace at the Aladdin Resort and Casino. And they also offer 25 cent martinis (who can beat that??) Some food items to definitely try: Soups 1-1-1 (a trio of gumbo, their famous turtle soup au sherry, and soup du jour) and the Tabasco "Mash" Cured and Smoked Salmon Sandwich. Can't wait to go back! Gaby's Mediterranean... Great Stuff (w/photos)
I can't believe there's a place like Gaby's on the westside and that I've never been before. I'm definitely going back soon! Check out my review:

Sushi Gen and cakes w/photos
You should try it out! Beside the toro, everything else was really fresh and great. I'll have to specifically ask for o-toro or chu-toro next time.

Had a great time at Sushi Gen on Friday (and even got a few slices of cake while waiting at the nearby bakery!) Some photos for you to enjoy:

Good place to get a martini...
Looking for more restaurants/bars/lounges to get a decent martini. The traditional, crazy, and fruity are all welcome suggestions! I recently went to Lola's in West Hollywood and it spurred on a search for the best martinis. Thanks in advance!

Kiriko or Sushi Gen - special dinner for parents TOMORROW night!
If you're just looking for super fresh fish Sushi Gen is a good place to go. For the ambience, Sushi Gen is nothing really "special" that you may be looking for. Also, since you're going on a Friday be prepared to wait a long time if you don't go early.
Best ramen in LA?
I really love shinsengumi in Fountain Valley. Never been to the one in Torrance/Glendale so I'm not sure if the ramen is just as good there. I don't really like Asahi, just a personal pref. I usually head over to Ramenya on Olympic when I feel like a big bowl of noodles.
Red Rock Hotel?
Yum! Sounds great. Especially the chocolate peanut butter profiteroles (two of my favorite things together!). What are the prices like at T-bones? Thanks for your recs!
Red Rock Hotel?
Has anyone eaten at any of the restaurants in Red Rock Hotel yet? A bunch of girls and I are trying to figure out some new places to eat at since we were planning on playing in Red Rock. Thanks for your suggestions in advance!

Breakfast in the South Bay
I would love love love to find other places to eat for breakfast. My favorite place so far is Bill of Fare in San Jose, but I'm willing to travel for anything better! Traditional breakfasts are fine, but anything worth travelling for will also be considered. Thanks in advance!

John O'Groats Review (w/pics). Other good breakfast places?
Yes, I noticed they changed the menu too (prices have sort of gone up as well!) What are your favorite breakfast foods there?
John O'Groats Review (w/pics). Other good breakfast places?
Thanks for all the recs! I'll definitely give them a try soon. Does S&W have a long wait on weekends? Do they serve a more traditional breakfast?
John O'Groats Review (w/pics). Other good breakfast places?
A little review on the old standby John O'Groats. What other tasty places for breakfast on the westside?

Looking for great (yet cheaper) wine bars
Thanks for the suggestions so far! I was hoping to find places that offer some wines by the glass for under $9.00. I'm just tired of restaurants that only serve not so good wines for $9 and up. Again thanks for the recs.
Looking for great (yet cheaper) wine bars
Hope the title is self explanatory. I would love to find more places that have AFFORDABLE wines by the glass (and some great food to boot!) It doesn't have to be a wine bar per se, but somewhere you can go to eat and drink well. Thanks!

Best Sushi in VEGAS
Hi!
Some girls and I will be in Sin City at the end of this month and we would really like to find the best sushi in town! Would prefer the omakase style sushi, but as long as the fish is fresh and tasty, anything will do! Thanks a lot!

Best Sushi in the Bay Area
Hello!
I'll be in NorCal next week so where can I find the best sushi in San Francisco (or the South Bay)? I'm hoping to find a place that does a great omakase, but anyhing awesome will also do! I'm willing to travel far and wide to put the best piece of fish in my mouth. Thanks!

Best Sushi in LA
Thanks for all your help! Can anyone give the amount of money I might have to shell out? Esp. for Sushi Zo, Mori Sushi and SushiGo 55. I must agree on Sushi Gen and Shibochu--been to both places and there really is some good stuff there.
