Jicama in Montreal area

Thanks everyone! I found it at Kim Hoa on Sources. I was at Marche Hawaii yesterday but they didn't have any when I was there! Bonus was that I found the young coconuts that I've been searching the planet for so I bought ten!

Young Coconut

Thanks everyone for your help! I went to Marche Hawaii yesterday and there they were! What an amazing store! I made sure I went down every single aisle so that I wouldn't miss anything :) I bought 10 young coconuts!

Young Coconut

I have quite a few of raw recipes that call for "young coconut" and I have not been able to find one anywhere. I have tried some Indian, Chinese, Korean and some regular fruit markets and no luck yet. Does anyone know where I might find one of these? Thanks for any help!

Cheap frozen fruit in Montreal

Costco has huge bags of mango and just about every kind of berry you can imagine. It's much cheaper than it is at most other stores too.

Jicama in Montreal area

I have been all over Laval today looking for Jicama and had no luck. Does anyone know where I can find some in the Montreal or West Island area?

Ban LaoThai Restaurant

Unfortunately I don't have any favorites as I just moved back here after being gone for 7 years. We are now on a quiest to find one though so if you have any suggestions I would appreciate it greatly! :)

Ban LaoThai Restaurant

My husband and I went to this restaurant on Saturday night and we had a different experience to what most other people on this site seem to have. We started out being the only people there but eventually four other people turned up. We thought the staff were quite nice although that may be because my husband used to live in Thailand and so he speaks Thai. I have read on other people's posts that they didn't like the staff there. The restaurant itself is quite small and definitely not fancy but we liked it. I would not consider going there for a special evening though. The food was really nothing special. I LOVE Thai food but I just didn't enjoy it here. We started out with the Tom Yum Soup with shrimp and it was very good but it lacked any lemon grass or galangal flavours completely! Besides that the soup was good. After that we ordered 3 dishes to share. The first was the Laotian style sausages that were raved about on this site previously so we decided to try them. Neither one of us liked them because they seemed to be almost musty or not fresh. Another dish was the beef red curry which left something to be desired also. The chicken salad (lap) was not tasty to me. That could be because it definitely had chicken liver in it which I despise. I took one bite and gave up on it. All that being said, the sticky rice was very good. We tried to order Mussaman curry but they don't serve it. Big letdown for me since its my favorite!

Scharffen Berger at Dollarama?!

I just got back fro the Dollarama next to Carrefour Laval and there are about 20 of the 62% bars there. I bought the other 25 of 70%.

Thermapen in Montreal

I bought one last year through their website and it came through Canada Post. I had to pay $16 in customs fees. I wasn't happy but it is a great tool and is well worth the money. If you spend a good amount of money on a piece of meat it can be ruined with a bad thermometer. Hope you like it!

Chinese buffets

I think it may have been Fu Lam. It is still there.

Caribbean Macaroni Pie

Nowhere in the list of ingredients does it have peas or carrots. How much are you supposed to add to this?

Sweet & Spicy Chicken Wings

I just made these and they are really good! Crispy, tasty and the perfect combo of sweet and spicy! Next time I will definitely add more heat though because I like mine hot! all in all, a great recipe and I will definitely make them again!

Buffalo Chicken Wings

I just made these and I'm not too thrilled by them. I just found them to be greasy and there is no spiciness to them at all. I used 1/8 tsp of cayenne and 4 tablespoons of tabasco so I thought there would be some heat but there wasn't. The skin was not crispy at all and I am just underwhelmed by thme.

Carrot, Leek, and Parsley Mash

Isn't 5 lbs of leeks a lot for 4 to 6 servings as a side dish? Has anyone tried this? It sounds delicious but I'm a little worried about the amount of carrots. Sounds like left overs to me :)
