La Boulangerie - New Bakery (YYC)
I planned on checking it out this weekend. I've driven by it a few times at random times and it's always packed. Hopefully it's good!

There are lots of places on 9th to check out depending on what you are looking for.
- The Blues Can - Live music (and good catfish from what I hear)
- Salt and Pepper
- New restaurant called The Fine Diner (set to open mid-April)
- Minh Chau Vietnamese
- Swans Pub
- Eat Eat
- Wildernest Cafe
- Spolumbos
- Ironwood Stage and Grill (similar to The Blues Can)
- Dragon Pearl (amazing chinese food)
- Without Papers
- Sugo
- Jacqueline Suzannes
- Inglewood Pizza
- Cafe Gravity (amazing coffee and fresh pastries)
- Hose and Hound Pub
I'm sure I missed something, but those are all right on 9th and offer a lot of different options
Village Cantina Closed? YYC
Ah ok... Thanks for the info! Hopefully it will be some good eats!
Village Cantina Closed? YYC
I was walking passed Village Cantina in Inglewood the other day and noticed that the restaurant looked shut down. It looks like they are renovating it though.
Anyone have any clues as to what's going in there?
Moving to Inglewood
Thanks mapsnrop... My new place is literally right beside Capo on 9 Ave. So, to get to 17th SE is not an issue in the least :)
On a side note, have any of you done the grocery delivery from Sunterra? I am wondering if they are any decent for the days when I don't have the time to shop....
Thanks again for all the help everyone!
Moving to Inglewood
Hsk... I didnt think about it that way. You are very right. For the amount of time it would take me to navigate through downtown to a grocery store, i would spend half the time getting to superstore.
Moving to Inglewood
Thanks everyone, I kinda figured I would be out of luck :)
I read online that the community is waiting on the city to release land so that it can be developed and most people are crossing their fingers in hopes of receiving a grocery store.
I guess it will be Safeway or Sobeys for me :)
I guess I am just feeling spoiled, where I am at now... within a 5 minute drive I have a safeway, superstore, 2 sobeys and a co-op :) So this will definately be a change!
That being said.... are there any MUST trys at Bite or Savour?
Moving to Inglewood
Hey All,
So, I am moving into a new place in Inglewood, right on 9th Ave SE. I absolutely adore the area, but realized there aren't any grocery stores. It seems to me that the closest would be the Safeway on 12th or the Sobeys in Forest Lawn.
So, for you innercity dwellers... Where do you go get groceries? I realize that Bite and Savour are very close, as is the farmers market. But I guess I am looking for more of everyday shopping.
Thanks in Advance for your response :)

Whats the best steakhouse in Calgary???
My vote will be for the steak for two at Mercato. I found in the last year or so, the food at Vintage has gone significantly downhill. Caesars is too old school for me, the keg is the same everywhere. If you couldnt get into Mercato, I would go with Chicago Chop House.
Seafood Dinner in Calgary
+1 for Catch. Does it have to be a seafood only restaurant or can it be a place that serves a few seafood dishes?
Taramosalata- Where to buy in Calgary
I was at the farmers market two weekends ago, and the greek girls had no taramosalata. Stopped in today and they had it. I just popped it open and an so happy you all recommended them. Its very good.
Thanks again!
Can you get spanish style coffee in Vancouver? Where?
I am not sure if this would do it for you, but... my venezuelan friends make something similar. They make their coffee the same as you or I would, but they make it slightly stronger. They then transfer the coffee to a blender and add condensed milk (always the eagle brand stuff... I dont know if that makes a difference) and then they blend it all together for 30 seconds. It comes out very creamy and slightly frothy.
I hope that helps at least a little :)
Bulk buying in Calgary
I stopped in to this shop this afternoon and was so pleased that I did. The owners were very pleasant to chat with. The selection is outstanding and the prices are very affordable. I picked up quite a few different things to try and I will be going back. Their wall of spices is amazingly complete.
It is a wonderful place for the south end of the city. Well worth checking out!
Fine dining meal in Calgary for a special moment
For a special moment, I would go for The Ranche. It is not as much money as you are willing to spend, but the location is so remote from everything else, the staff are very good at special requests and I have never been disappointed by the food.
Good eating in Golden
I am not 100% sure..... so I dont want you to tell you something totally wrong :)
Heres the website for Truffle Pigs:

New in Calgary - can you help with "must dine at" restaurants?
Nonlinear has some great suggestions for around the area. To add to that, in the area, I would also suggest
Minas: In avenida Mall, vietnamese. 15c is a great thai viet soup
Greek Plaka: Little Greek place in Shawnessy, next to the zellers. Very unassuming.
Andys Family Meats: In Avenida again, great little butcher shop
Pies Plus: In Avenida, great for a quick soup and quiche or amazing pies to take home.
Slovak Store: On James McKevitt, near Toms house of pizza. Some really cool Eastern European things. The woman that owns the place has a lot of stuff behind the counters (think perogies, homemade pickles etc)
And missfoodie, Great List!!
Good eating in Golden
In Golden, we stop in town at the White Wolf. Great little bistro.
If you stop earlier, in Field, there is a place called Truffle Pig Bistro. Also superb.
Taramosalata- Where to buy in Calgary
Thanks Guys, I will try the girls at the farmers market.
Taramosalata- Where to buy in Calgary
So... Just as the title says. I am looking for Taramosalata. I haven't been able to find it at the stores in my area of town (Shawnessy/Somerset). Any suggestions?
Thanks in Advance!
Spanish Market in Edmonton?
Sorry... I guess I should have been more specific. These long weekends cause my brain to shut off :)
Here is the website:
http://www.italiancentre.ca/
I go to the South one. I would assume they have the same stuff at the North store, but I am not 100% sure.
Spanish Market in Edmonton?
I get Serrano Ham and Manchego at the Italian store off Calgary Tr
1 night in Banff
If you are staying on a Friday Nite or Saturday Nite, I would say the brunch at the Banff Springs. They have a spectacular brunch on the weekends.
For dinner, I would say Fuze
www.fuzedining.com
If you are going on a Friday/ Saturday, I would say head into Canmore for drinks at Muriettas (They usually have live music and dancing)
daytrip from calgary?
+1 for Route 40.
Also, the Bavarian Inn in Bragg Creek has been great every time we have headed out there.
If you wanted to head to Okotoks, I have heard great things about Best of New Orleans
Bistro 2210 - Calgary
We stopped in at Bistro for lunch today and had a wonderful experience! The server was so friendly and had plenty of suggestions regarding what to have for lunch.
We ended up with the Duck Poutine.... OH MY GOD. It was awesome! The duck was juicy, the fries were perfectly crunchy. I think I have found a new addiction :D
For the mains, we both had the pork schnitzel. It was moist and not over done. The au jus was seasoned very well.
I will be back very soon.... Damn these new addictions!!!! :D
Good Pate?? Calgary
So, I was finally downtown today and had a chance to stop in at L'epicerie, and OH MY GOD.
I was blown away by this place. The girl behind the counter was so helpful and Dominique was great to speak with. I left with quite a lot more than I expected to, but I am so looking forward to trying it all again.
I think I will have to make this a regular stop when I am downtown.
Weekend Dining in Calgary
Chili Club Thai House would be my vote.
And I second Wa's. Their sushi is awesome.
tapas and paella
Jaro Blue is a tapa place:
http://www.jaroblue.com/JAROblue-menu.html
I have been to Jaro twice and quite enjoyed it.
Don Quijote has a paella that is decent. I haven't had a fantastic paella in Calgary. But theirs is pretty good.

Nice, Big, Meaty Dinner... But... (Calgary)
My first thought is that you may want to re-think Mercato. They have that meat platter and it is the meat-iest thing! Its very good.
My other suggestion would be to call Muse and do a tasting menu. The last time we were there, two of our dishes were chocolate braised bison and elk medallions.
Steakhouse - Calgary
The Bistecca at Mercato is my fav. You could also do the platter depending on how many people are in your group.
In Toronto for One Nite Only. Suggestions for Chefs Menu
Hey All,
Just wanted to say that we ended up at Colborne Lane. The service was a little lacking at the beginning, but vastlly improved by the second course. We did the tasting menu and it was amazing.
Thanks again for the advice!
