Downtown Toronto : NO Malaysian, Singaporean, Indonesian as at 2010

Wow. I fail at responding. (I think my notification of this thread got eaten).
Sadly, The place has shut down. :(

Apparently a new eatery opened up not too long ago that's more Indonesian-centric.
It's called D'Rollz and though it's in Toronto, it's at Dufferin and Steeles. They look to run it in a fast-food type way where you place the order at the counter, pick up and grab a seat.

I got the chance to eat there and it's good comfort food for me (my parents are Indonesian). The d'crisp (lumpia goreng) was hot and fresh and the "crepe type" (lumpia basah) was also freshly made. Ha, makes my mouth water just thinking about them!

The menu is a generally safe one so one can't expect anything "too exotic" at least just yet I hope. I assume it's to not scare off potential customers. (They also offer basics like chicken wings and sweet potato fries.)

I was able to chat with the owners (who are also from Indonesia) a bit and told me they get quite a few Indonesian students trekking up there from downtown for their food.

I plan to totally support this place and hope it grows and doesn't disappear like the other Indonesian restos! I just have to figure out how to get out there more often!

Daniel et Daniel catering (cocktail portion sizes)

Thanks again for the responses!
Though I may end up going with 4 stations, knowing that they tend to have bountiful portions makes me feel better.

Daniel et Daniel catering (cocktail portion sizes)

I'm planning a cocktail reception and hoping to go with Daniel et Daniel.
I'm thinking to go with their "Stationary Cocktail Reception" but I don't know what the portion sizes are like.

Stationary Cocktail Reception includes:
Smoked Duck Canape
Pissaladiere
Large Tiger Shrimps with a Traditional Cocktail Sauce.
Cheese Tortellini
Thai Chicken in a Phyllo Basket.
Side of Atlantic Smoked Salmon
A Selection of Dips
Assorted Mini Fresh Fruit Tarts
& Selection of Home-made Baked Goods

Has anyone done this menu? If so, what are the portions like? Would it be enough as a light dinner substitute for the general person? Perhaps some links to photos? (I've already sifted through the galleries on their website.)

Thanks in Advance!

Manpuku - new Japanese fast food at Village by the Grange

It's become my new addiction. It's amazing how beautiful this space looks now from its previous incarnation.

I like eating their takoyaki. A lot. There's something really nice about eating hot and fresh takoyaki right from the "takoyaki-maker". It just goes down way too easy. I'm also enjoying their takosen, which is a takoyaki between 2 senbei. It gives a really nice textural contrast between the crunchy crackers and a more yielding takoyaki.

I also like their shigure don because the beef is so thinly sliced that you almost don't have to chew it! I usually don't bother with such beef dishes in restaurants but I make the exception here.

I also have to mention that the short-grain rice here is one of the best rice I've ever had and this is someone who's been eating rice all her life and varying qualities.

Indonesian Restaurant

I recommend to explore the link that LikeTheWolf has posted ( http://www.unicas.ca/warungkopi.html ). UNICAS also holds bazaars with lots of Indonesian food.

Goes to show what they're pushing for, eh?
The menu was up a while ago and it looks to be more like hong kong and taiwanese style snack foods are being served. I don't know why its been taken down.

Looks to be that way. It seems to be targeting a subsection of anime fans. I'm only curious about the food.

This place has been receiving a lot of attention lately, but, more for the "maid" aspect of course. Has anyone gone to this place? How's the food like? A few friends of mine are wanting to go, and, just in case I get roped into going, I'd like to find solace in food.
Thanks in advance!

Living Well (redux)

(Though I've found a topic on this place, it's been a little while since it was posted and their site is down.) I'm thinking to go out to this place with a few friends tomorrow. How is the food there of late? Any recommendations?

Thanks in Advance!
