NOLA Cook's Stores? Vintage/Antique Cookware?

You're not the only one. :-)

NOLA Cook's Stores? Vintage/Antique Cookware?

Well, you were right on. My receipt is April 2010 NOT April 2011.

TIme is flying by so fast it's painful to even think about.

Mega Visit -- Trip Report In Progress

+1 on Clancy's, and add Coquette.

AB No reservations

Is every show supposed to display mouthwatering cuisine? Is his show designed to make you want to go the places he's visited? I've never had that impression.

I don't look at his show as anything more than entertainment with a hint of culture commentary.

NOLA Cook's Stores? Vintage/Antique Cookware?

Are you sure it was 2010? It seems to me our last purchase from there was last year.
Hmmm...I'll have to dig up my receipt. Eitherway, what a loss. Such beautiful things.

your favorite food movie..

Love, love, love "Bottle Shock!"

Cancun Recommendations on Blvd Kukulcan (Hotel Zone)

Thanks all for the recommendations. Unfortunately, time did not permit us to do much beyond the hotel zone. Long days on the amazing beach kept us from having big nights out. But I will say you were all correct, everything in the hotel zone is subpar at best.

We did have a lovely dinner at Harry's Steakhouse. The restaurant is gorgeous, and service was top notch. VERY expensive, but a lovely evening nontheless.

Go to La Maison d'Absinthe on 823 Royal. Amazing collection of antique absinthe ware. The vintage pieces they have are absolutely breathtaking.

Also go to the Kitchen Witch for a large selection of new and vintage cookbooks.

Ask how many Americans are aware of what May Day is or when Canadian Thanksgiving takes place. It doesn't matter if it's not important to you, it is important to someone else, and you're not in a position to place judgment on it.

No, not all of them. And each one had to start somewhere.

It's ridiculous to dismiss any holiday someone celebrates as "made up" when they ALL are made up.

Does anyone actually like Sandra Lee?

Um...every holiday is made up.

Mega Visit -- Trip Report In Progress

Rabbit porcini tagliatelle at Domenica is truly one of the most amazing pasta dishes I've ever had.

Leftover Lobster

I made Emeril's lobster cakes a few weeks ago. Amazing.
Or you could make lobster pasta, lobster quesadillas, lobster suffed avacado or lobster salad

best immersion blender?

See my posts above.

What? You don't like sammies? I love wanting to hit my head against a wall when I hear these things.

Ditto on Sara Moulton. It's just a matter of time before Anne Burrell is gone, too. She's the only thing I record on FN.

Looking for the Soul of New Orleans

I had a client that loved to take me to Red Gravy. As others have said, it's far from the soul of New Orleans. It'd send someone looking for the soul of New Orleans to Domilise's, Rocky & Carlo's for a carb induced coma, Cafe Atchafalya, or Galatoire's..

Cochon vs Herbsaint

Yep...just like that.

Yeah, but before Cuomo there was the husband who was CEO of KB Homes, and then she shacked up with the executive producer of Food Network.

No taste then, no taste now.

Does anyone actually like Sandra Lee?

Yeah, your post is the onley one I've read admitting you like her.
Personally, I'm horrified she's actually on television....let alone having her name on "cookbooks".

No worries about the typos. I have the same issue with my iPhone/iPad. Sometimes it's truly frightening to see what I've typed.

Weird combinations?

Fries in ranch dressing is awesome. We like to say Texas will fry anything and dip it in ranch.

Weird combinations?

(Forgive the typos in my post. I need to stop typing on the iPad.)

It was odd. My husband is a HUGE dessert fan, and was terribly let down. He liked it, but wanted something more substantial.

What is this Chinese pastry called??

Was it a Husband Cake? I've seen them in the oblong shape, but not the opaque color. Did it have an anise flavor? Or it may have been a cocktail bun.

Weird combinations?

We went to this high end Italian restaurant in D.C. in 2005 and sadly I don't rember the name. Anyway, we had an amazing and very expensive chef's tasting menu with dessert being a tomato and basil sorbet. It was not in the usualy category for desserts, but it wasn't terrible. It had that tomato savoriness to it, but was really crisp and refershing.

Love Tim's. They really produce a quality product. I think Tim's vinegar & salt are the best I've had in that flavor combination.

They only come out periodically. The package always says "limited edition." I haven't been able to determine any regular schedule around them.

The next time I see them, I'll let you know. If you can't find them, I'll send you some.

Which Two Cuisines for the Rest of your Life?

Italian and French. Would never need another thing.

Zapp's Gumbo Chips are fabulous.
