Ocean City seafood? [moved from Washington DC/Baltimore board]
I had my best meal in OC at Liquid Assets, which is a restaurant inside a wine shop. It's at 94th Street and Coastal Highway, a bit out of the way of the main touristy area, but worth the drive.
Restaurant/Bar with Great Food and a Television within 30 minutes of Clifton, VA
Your best bet close to Clifton is the Glory Days Grill in Centreville. They have dozens of TVs tuned into all games and you can order anything at the bar that's on the regular menu.
american chinese food cravings?
Real wonton soup is Cantonese. Those use chicken broth that has dried fish boiled into the stock, and I believe some places also use shrimp shells for added flavor. The wontons use the thin egg flour skins and inside you'll find pork along with large shrimp pieces. This is not what you'll find in Chinese American places that uses watered down canned chicken broth with a piece of think dumpling skin and a tiny sliver of pork inside the skin.
Staying in Vienna, visiting DC, where to get healthy cheap eats?
There is always the Garden Cafe inside the NGA. Good Italian fare with a menu designed by Fabio Trabocci (of Fiola). http://www.nga.gov/dining
restaurant recs for fairfax
If you want red meat and potatoes, Arties is the best bet for quality food in Fairfax City.
French bistro recommendations in DC and VA
I've never been in a Parisian bistro that had the high noise level as Bistrot du Coin. I was there on a busy Saturday evening after a show. Service is typical French (distinterested), food is very so-so, and the noise level very high. Bistro d'Oc is a much more pleasant experience and with better food, IMHO.
What's the best brunch in DC right now?
Garden Cafe d'Italia at the National Gallery of Art.
Breakfast place near or east of White House
If greasy spoon breakfast fits your description, the Lincoln's Waffle Shop on 10th Street NW across from Ford's Theater is a good spot.
Best in Chantilly?
One of the best bowls of pho I've had in that area was at Pho 98.
Vegetarian and Meat-eater friendly restaurants in Fairfax Va?
Indian would be a solution. I like Bollywood Bistro in downtown Fairfax.
Food foreigners take back home when they visit America.
When I was a child in the late 60s, my family moved from Hong Kong to Taiwan. Whereas I could get things like Coke and 7 up in HK, Taiwan back then didn't have access to those soft drinks, and the state softdrink monopoly only had root beer available. How I hated root beer ever since. Just a taste of it reminds me of that deprived period :)
Seeking ideas in Chantilly, VA and surrounding area
Within Chantilly there is Minverva (Indian) in the same strip mall where Thai Basil is, on Rt 50 west of 28. Off of 50 east of 28 next to the Lowes is a very good Chinese vegetarian restaurant, Lotus. Next to the Dulles Expo Center is Willard's BBQ. Going south on 28, in Centreville, you have Pho Aura, which is off the Westfields exit in the shopping center with the Safeway. It's a full service Vietnamese restaurant that has good reviews. In Centreville, in the Old Centreville Crossing shopping Center on Lee Hwy (US 29) and Old Centreville Rd, is the nucleus of the new Korea town being built in that area of western Fairfax Country. You have in that shopping center Honey Pig Korean BBQ, a Korean fried chicken restaurant, and a couple of others whose name escape me at the moment. Further south on 28 you will come across Sweet Water Tavern, a local favorite brew pub, part of the GAR chain.

Huy Fong is the name of the ship that the founder of the company was rescued by when he left Vietnam in a fishing boat. He's a genuine American success story, started with nothing, and now with what is arguably a highly successful brand name.
H Mart? forgive me, take away my CH logon, but what is this place?
In the DC area we have H Mart, Lotte, and Grand Mart. All are Korean owned, but they have all adapted to local market conditions with extensive Latin American as well as South Asian sections.
H Mart? forgive me, take away my CH logon, but what is this place?
Don't know what it means, but their name in Chinese characters (Koreans used Chinese characters before Hangul was invented) which they also display in their stores, are "Han" - Korean, "Ya"- Asian, "Lung" - Dragon. I may be wrong in the literal interpretations but that's how it translate into Chinese.
H-Mart seafood department
So true, akin to the American preference for white chicken meat. As a lover of dark meat, I'm very happy.
A delicious buffet -- oxymoron or possible?
The smorgasbord at the Copenhagen central train station was quite memorable, though it has been 23 years.
Dallas CH visiting Tyson's Corner/DC, looking for advice
A better place for mussels (and run by the same guy) is Brabo Tasting Room in Alexandria. It's smaller and the menu is more limited, but I think they do mussels much better over there.
New Sichuan place from Hong Kong Palace people - metro accessible!
Hot pot is one of those experiences where (at least for my family) it's much better do to at home. We went to Uncle Liu's once and was not impressed. I could buy the chili oil next door at Great Wall and do my own ma la hot pot for a lot cheaper and with better ingredients.
Favorite places you've lived outside the USA?
I spent some time in the southern (Francophone) half of Belgium in the 80s. The food and beer were wonderful. Shopping in the weekly markets for fresh meats and vegetables were great. I still can recall the smell of the fresh gaufres in the streets. But I agree Paris would be the best of everything.
Power Lunch DC-Where To Take My Dad For A Power Lunch In DC-He Is From NY
Considering President Obama has twice brought his motorcade to Ray's Hellburger, once with Russian President Medvedev, I think it qualifies as a place for a DC power lunch.
Paying for rice.
Restaurants in Hong Kong charge for tea and rice. It's perfectly normal there.
Pho recs close to 95/beltway/295?
There are a few choices off the Beltway in VA. Pho Golden Cow on Rt 50 and Graham Rd, across from the Loehmann's Plaza, and Pho Hot on Rt 236 east of the Beltway in Annandale. Both are very good and an easy on and off from the Beltway.

Pho Hot Restaurant
7442 Little River Tpke, Annandale, VA 22003
Pho Golden Cow
7246 Arlington Blvd, Falls Church, VA 22042
Korean Grocery Store Accessible via. Metro or in Downtown DC
Problem with VRE is that they run mostly in one direction (inbound to DC in the morning, outbound to VA in the afternoon). There may be only one train that runs in the opposite direction for each rush hour. If you miss it, you're SOL. I second the metro to Vienna and the bus connection to the Super H in Fairfax.
Restaurant near GWU?
Indian would be a good bet. Minverva, Bombay Bistro, Bollywood Bistro are all within a 10 minute drive of GMU in Fairfax.
-----
Bombay Bistro
98 W Montgomery Ave, Rockville, MD 20850
what's the best northeast corridor city for food (outside of NY)?
Washington DC, especially the suburbs. Ethiopian in DC, Chinese in Rockville, MD, Vietnamese in Falls Church, VA, Korean in Annandale and Centreville, VA. Great, HUGE new Asian markets (Lotte, Super H, Grand Mart, Hanaro, etc.), and major expansion of Wegmans supermarkets. It really is heaven.
Glory Days - Damn Fine Burger for $5
One of the best burger deals in DC area is Glory Days' $5 burger deal on Mondays. Had one last night, their All-American classic burger. You can order it done the way you like. I had mine medium rare, and it came out perfect, red on the inside and juicy. The bun was more like a hard roll, and topped with with nice piece tomato, leaf lettuce, and red onion plus a pickle wedge. Comes with a side. I think they make the best cole slaw in any restaurant. It's not RHB, but for the money you can't beat this deal.
