Live Baby Octopus

I had baby ocopus stirfry at a chinese buffet in Orange County CA several years ago. It's something that I will always remember, but will probably never have chance to have again. Your search is worth the effort.

Looking for a good sausage [KC]

Try Fritz's smoked meats. They are located southwest of 103rd & Stateline.

Tulsa/Broken Arrow, Oklahoma

That is it, thanks. The closest place that I saw it to KC was Fort Scott, KS. Too far to drive, too bad; but I will remember them the next time that we are in that area. Thanks again.

Kansas City

Actually, I haven't. I am baseing my opinion on my limited experiences. However, I do believe that Kansas City can match up with NYC, LA,, Chicago, or Austin, we just need to realise it. Every city has it's differences. LA has really good seafood, but I have had some expensive Mexican meals from award winning restaurants that weren't worth finishing. Do not underestimate our hometown.

Kansas City

Again I did not intend to offend, however, since it seems that I did, I apologise.

Although I lived in eastern Kansas about 10 miles west of the state line, I have similiar memories. My grandparents were from south-central Missouri and I remember all of the foods that have been mentioned. However in March and April we would have fresh creamed asparagus served over buttered toast or biscuits. This is still one of my favorite meals. Has anyone else had this?

KCMO: Beer, Mexican, Vegetarian Friendly, Quiet, BBQ, arts district?

A recommendation that is not directly food related. Go to La Mesa on Southwest Boulevard about the 2800 block, close to Ponak's. They are an importer of any number of things from Mexico, and to keep it food related, you can probably pick up a torillia press or a comal. I can guarantee that you can find items that 99.9% of Londoners have never seen and on top of that the owner is a super person.

I am not trying to offend, but this seems like a lukewarm endorsement.

relizabeth, I remember your post from last year. I have been staying close to home since then but I have found a place that I believe that you would really enjoy. El Pollo Rey is on the southwest corner of 11th and Kansas avenue in KCK across the street from Firestone. When you see and smell the smoke pouring out of the side of the building, that's the place. Walk inside and you could be in any number of places in the interior of Mexico, a few tables on the right and order on the left Behind the order counter one can see chicken being cooked over an open fire. For 6.50 you get half of marinated grilled chicken, tortillas, beans, rice, pickled red onions, and salsa. Tear some chicken off the bone and put it on one of the tortillias, top it with pickled onions and and salsa and dig in, have beans and rice on the side. Excellent. Can you tell that I am hungry?

Tulsa/Broken Arrow, Oklahoma

I am from Kansas City, but I love NE Oklahoma/SE Kansas, it is a very good place to be. My wife and I were recently there and we bought some Fried Chicken from a fast food type place that I later realised is a regional chain. I am sorry that I cannot remember the name of the place, but if there was a Kansas City location, I would be there at least once a week,. Really, really, good fast food..

Kansas City

Kansas City is a really good food town except in one particular area,. Kansas City does not have any good pizza. Grinder's is pretty good, but too artsy. KC has a strong Italian immigrant history, why does our pizza suck?

buttermilk powder?--KC area

My wife has a container in the freezer, probably bought it at Price Chopper. Just ask.

Really good game, too bad mizzou won. Hey wait, Illinois lost. Eh.

Breaded, with lettuce, tomato, and mayo, or, with mustard, onion, and dill pickle?

STL is still a good place toe be, the Hill, the Zoo, the Cards, Mardi Gras, among so much more. Right I am watching Mizzou/Illinois, too bad one has to win.

STEAK HOUSES IN KANSAS CITY AREA

My personal feelings about the Frontier Steakhouse is not that it is so much a steakhouse but a roadhouse. Steaks are but an addition to the rest of the menu. Fried chicken, chicken fried steak, and ribeye steak, medium rare, with all the sides, this is what midwest cooking all about.

STEAK HOUSES IN KANSAS CITY AREA

A few more places to consider. Nick and Jake's in Parkville and OP. Reatlativity new, but, kinda old-school, good places. Wil Jenny's on 135th in OP, is a Texas roadhouse/steakhouse concept, good place. Another is Westchase Grille in Leawood, again, new but a traditional concept. I would enjoy eating at any..

STEAK HOUSES IN KANSAS CITY AREA

You might try J. Gilbert's Wood-Fired Steaks, on the east side of Metcalf about the 8900 block. It has been there quite a few years and is my son-in-laws favorite steakhouse.

Kansas City Indian Grocery Store

Sorry that I can't recommend a grocery along your route, however, I can recommend a restaurant. Swagat"s is in Zona Rosa, roughly the northwest corner of I-29 and Barry Road, two or three miles south of the airport. The food is very good, the people super nice, and the location is really clean. I really enjoy going there. I hope that you enjoy your trip.

I have always loved STL, a great place to visit, we must do it again soon. Greater KC is a great place to be. The people seem to be more open to casual social interaction, say somethng to a stranger and you will probably get a civil response, if not, it is their problem. Kansas City is a great place to be and getting better.

hill food, I agree about Missouri. For some time I have said that east of Columbia, MO belongs to the east coast, west to the west coast. South of the Missouri river and, even to the western stateline, belongs to the southeast ,while north, belongs to Big Ten country. STL is the westernmost eastern city while KC is the easternmost western city. IMO Missouri is the country's dividing point.

So a tamale is a tamale? What about Jim's Tamales in Kansas City? Similar but really not the same. Please explain. I would really like to know to know about Ark-Mex tamales.

classic Missouri comfort dish

I recently visited friends in Alabama and asked about southern tamales. They seemed to know about the Tex-Mex tamales that I can find any number of places. Please elaborate on Mississipi delta tamales.

Legends or nearby in KC

I am so glad that you enjoyed your meal, I hope that I can help you in the future.

Legends or nearby in KC

I love chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and cream gravy and green beans. Fried chicken with the same sides is nearly as good. Then again, a good ribeye with a baked potato, who can decide?

Legends or nearby in KC

East of the Legends on State Avenue at 94th street, a couple of miles or so, is the Frontier Steakhouse. They have been in business for fifty years at the same location and comes highly recommended. Personally, I would go there before anything at the Legends.

Tiramisu in south JOCO/Olathe

Thanks, Mike.

Tiramisu in south JOCO/Olathe

Thanks for the help. We have eaten at Italian Delight many times over the years, always good. I did not know that Ricco's even existed, will have to try it. I know that my friend likes Garozzo's, where is the Olathe location? Thanks.
