Best BBQ in NYC

So disappointed in all the raves for the brisket at Dinosaur. Their ribs are quite good but the brisket doesn't measure a lick compared to brisket in Texas or Kansas City. The only really good brisket I've ever had in New York doesn't belong on this board, Big W in Wingdale, NY Truly outstanding brisket. If you are a brisket fan, get a zip car and go.

cold sesame noodles

The best cold noodles and Chinese in general I've had in Westchester is Lum Yen in Mamaroneck. Old school but very high quality. Try it with hacked chicken.

Affordable Sushi?

In my experience sushi is not something you want to buy on the cheap. Good sushi is not inexpensive for a reason. Cheap sushi lousy for a reason.

I've you've never eaten it. Go for the best, Sushi Yasuda. Expect to pay about $120 per per person. It's worth it.

Moderate prices for tourists in town for a conference

Mother's. Can't go wrong there for lunch. Great Po Boys, downtown, near the convention places and big hotels (Marriott) and cheap. Have a debris sandwich.

First trip to NOLA from a former Philly Chowhound

Have a debris sandwich for lunch at Mother's. New Orleans equivalent of a Philly cheese steak without the cheese.....a fabulous sandwich I don't think exists anywhere else. Mother's is also great for breakfast. Have the hot links with your eggs.

Emerils vs Commander's Palace vs Galatoires

For food quality and overall classic NOLA experience, Galatoires. I've never been anything but pleased with my meal and the experience. The quality of the service at Commanders is unique. It never ceases to amaze me how whenever I'm three sips before the end of my mint julep the captain asks if I'd like another. Without fail it is there the moment I've my taken my last sip. Brunch at Commanders is legendary for a reason. Probably the best bread pudding and egg dishes on the planet. Emeril's is fun but I've always felt they try to hard. The food while tasty ends up appearing a bit contrived.

Best pubs for food, Katonah Avenue/Woodlawn area Bronx?

Thanks haven't been to Mary's Celtic but as for Rambling House, been there several times. IMHO OK nothing special. Last time my corned beef sandwich was quite skimpy,

Special Dinner for 2 - Jungsik? Bouley? Picholine? La Grenouille? (vegetarian included)

If you wan't classic french with modern sensibilities try LePerigord at E52nd & First. Less snobby than Le Grenouille and better service. I've never been dissappointed. Beautifully decorated without pretense.

One Day in NYC...is this a reasonable schedule?

A good schedule. I'd stop at N on Crosby & Grand for drinks, have a caipirinha, best in the city, imho.

With Sarge's Down and Stage Door Closed, Where Can You Go for Deli Food?

P.J Bernsteins on the UES is pretty good, not great but pretty good. Have to say, I love "commenters" that have to insult the intelligence of patrons of places they don't care for. Katz's pastrami is excellent in my opinion, better than the Stage ever was. Not as good as the original Pastrami King in Kew Gardens was, but that is ancient history. Pastrami Queen is very good, but they don't have everything the larger deli's have.

Best place to get 10+ lbs lobster meat?

Any vendor is good for "just meat". Prices are never posted. You have to ask. Go to Hunt's Point at about 7-8AM, late for the good stuff, and tell the purveyors you want lobster remnants, the dead and broken pieces. You'll get a good price. Cook when and clean right away you get back to your kitchen. It will keep a while once it's cooked. Bring cash.

Fletcher's BBQ

Fletcher's brisket is like fancy chewing gum; it tastes good but looses it's flavor by the time you get all that dry meat chewed enough to swallow it. Slathering it in their pretty good sauce helps, but great brisket stands on it's own with a bunch of sauce to get necessary to gt it down.

Best Burgers in NYC.................

Korzo is great, a totally unique and delicious concept. Highly recommended, but not really a burger in the classic American sense. Have the weird ones, the wierder the better, at Korzo at least.

Jewish Deli sandwich and knishes for Saturday

Katz's really is the only choice. It's the best of what's left and in my opinion always was the best (except for the long gone Pastrami King in Kew Gardens)..Have a noblewurst on a club roll if you have room, an awesome crunchy knockwurst. Try a Cel-Ray soda with your pastrami for the full yiddishe' experience. I can't eat pastrami with out one!

Is there any really good bread out there?

Addeo in the Bronx gets my vote for Italian style "boule" in the Bronx. For Jewish style bread, corn rye and a fabulous pumpernickel raisin try Orwashwer's on the OES,

Looking for best Irish breakfast or burger in Woodlawn section of Bronx

The Rambling House has a good not great but nicely char broiled burger, ditto for the Irish breakfast which they sometimes grumble about serving after noon. Beyond the standard beers you'll find 3 or four English or Irish selections such as Smithicks, Harp or Fullers. The ambaiance is good, the waitresses usually all charming Irish lasses. Rambling house is an enjoyable, venerable but not extraordinary place to eat.

I'll get to Loeser's soon and report back. I've never been there.

Liebman's Deli Riverdale, lately?

Liebmans is a pleasant place to eat with a friendly feel. The food and service is predictably good but unrushed. Their matzoh ball soup may be the best around. Nice shreds of chicken, well cooked but not mushy carrots and celery and tasty matzoh balls that are more as they should be and less like the flavorless softball sized behemoths many diners serve these days.
I also reccomend the stuffed cabbge and kishka. I take a trip across the borough once in a while to go there.

If you want to experience one of the last the neighborhood deli's then yes it is worth the trip. As martinklienman said it is the kind of place that every jewish nabe had in the 50's-70's. There are very few left.

Smoked carp?

There are several Russian Deli-markets on Brighton Beach Bl. that have several varitites of smoked carp. I don't know names but you find them along the strip by the beach there.

Harlem - Dinner and Brunch

I like the chicken and waffles at Amy Ruth's better. Good dinner-brunch entrees too. The smothered pork chops and baked salmon are my favorite entrees if I'm not having chicken and waffles or breakfast. . I don't think they serve alcohol either.
