Joe's Stone Crab Question
Can you go for lunch? We usually arrive right around opening time and there is never a wait.
Have fun.
One day & night on Las Olas
Gran forno bakery has a little bistro on the same block as the riverside hotel. Pretty casual but a good bet for lunch.
FRESH HOUSE MADE MOZZARELLA IN MIAMI
Mozzarita in pompano beach is a fresh mozzarella producer in south Florida. They supply many of the restaurants here. You can go to their production facility and purchase burrata and other fresh cheese. The owner, Vito, is a cheese maker from Italy and is as authentic as they come.
Ft. Lauderdale--Help me decide?!!!
I would really skip catfish deweys. It's know for fried seafood and all you can eat deals. I've always found it dirty and not great. I would be disappointed if I was from out of town and planned a special trip there. Rustic inn could be fun. It is on a canal and the kids can feed the fish. There is also lots of mallet banging which makes it loud and lively. 15 street fisheries can be fun too. You can ride the water taxi from your hotel. The food is passable but you can buy bait for the kids to feed the tarpon right on the river. The exerperience and scenery make the food a little better :)
Joes is great, just know you are going for the history and stone crabs and not a gourmet experience. We always go for lunch and never wait.
Who cooks in a hotel room?
Back in my party days I used to have a quite a few hotel rooms.
My best trick was ramen noodles in the coffee maker. I would put the noodles where the coffee grinds should have gone, then run the coffee maker. When the cycle was finished the noodles would be cooked perfectly. Then I would pour them in the coffee pot, sprinkle the seasoning over them and eat with whatever utensil I could dig up. Aaah, good times....
AYCE Stone Crab at Kitchen 305? Any reports?
Kitchen 305 in Sunny Isles is running their all you-can-eat stone crab special for $35 again. Has anybody been for this? Is it worth my trip down from Broward?
It sounds like a killer deal, makes me a little suspect...

News Flash! Previously unknown burger declared "Best!"
Gilbert's has a great burger! I've been telling anyone who will listen to me about it for the last 6 months or so.
I'm glad they got some recognition for it.
Seafood Bachelor Party
Catfish Dewey's is anything but nice. Not sure why it has been spoken so highly about on this board, it always feels dirty with mediocre food at best (although the bone-in catfish is pretty darn good)
Bluemoon Fish Company is a good choice. As would be 3030 Ocean.

Food shopping at TJ Maxx/Home Goods
I work for a food importer and we are contacted by TJ Maxx from time to time. Many times what they are looking for are products which we are overstocked on and cannot sell before the "best by" date on the package. Most of the products are perfectly fine, but are nearing their expiration date.
Bachelorette Party Lincoln Rd SOBE - Is there any hope?
Hi Everybody,
I am trying to get an idea of a fun place to go on Lincoln Rd for a Bachelorette Party in a couple of weeks (7-8 gals). I am trying to stay specific to Lincoln Rd because we are all going to see a movie (Sex in the City 2) at the Lincoln Rd Theater at as well and time might be a bit tight.
It can't be too expensive as some of the girls are on a budget (under $20 entrees please). Is there any fun but chow-worthy place nearby or am I dreaming?
I know Taverna Opa has been suggested but I was hoping to keep it in walking distance from the theater.
Is Cafe Barcelona on Espanola worth considering?
All suggestions welcome. Thank you!
Best Burger Miami-Ft. Lauderdale
I don't know if it is the best burger in South Florida, but I visited Gilbert's 17th Grill in Fort Lauderdale over the weekend and they have a damn good burger. Worth giving a shot if you are in the area

New Yawkers in Fort Lauderdale SE 6th Street Area
Oops - Got my theaters mixed up. Canyon is next to Gateway Theater, not Cinema Paradiso. Still a great meal close by though.

Canyon Restaurant is next to Cinema Paradiso. Not too cheap, but fabulous food.

What is your favorite Food TV show?
Does anybody else think that "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" is the best food porn on TV these days? I do.

Broward - All you can eat sushi
Really? Kyojin has really gone downhill the last couple of times I was there. Some things are ok, but the sushi isn't so good. The last time I ate there I promised myself I would never go back.
Here's where I go for all-you-can eat sushi. The quality is decent, but they have all you can eat hand rolls, and tempura too. And its only like $13. The only catch is you have to eat all of the rice or they charge you for each rice ball.

Any places for Late night Cravings in Ft Lauderdale?
Primanti Brothers on the Beach (A1A and Sunrise) is always my pick when I'm up that late. They are open 24 hours and are famous for their overstuffed sandwiches.

Top Chef - Las Vegas - Ep. #10 - 10/28/09 (Spoilers)
Hey soypowder - I was thinking the same thing. I was blown away with the lack of grains, beans, or dairy. It didn't make any sense to me.
And where was the protein????
I fed a vegetarian lard by mistake. Do I tell her?
Interesting topic. My husband is vegetarian (but eats fish) so I deal with this often. We eat out alot, and I haven't had the heart to tell him how French Onion soup or Clam Chowder are made. It is almost like a don't ask don't tell policy.
And to everyone posting here - I worked in restaurants for years, and chicken stock is basically like water in restaurants. It is used in everything, from sauces, to soups and everywhere in between.... Good luck.
Oh and by the way - don't tell your friend.
NPR story on why ordering pastrami on white bread is a mortal sin
Great piece. Heard it yesterday on the drive home. And today I have this uncanny craving for a pastrami sandwich on rye...
Stone Crabs
Joe's is a great South Florida institution everybody has to try at least once. People say the stone crabs taste better there, but I can lay down a pretty good spread at home as well...
Try going early for lunch (I think they open at 11?) There is never a wait then...
Alright Ft. Lauderdale, lets hear about some cheap(er) eats!
I have a great place and have not seen it mentioned on the board. It is called Bravo Gourmet Sandwich, a Peruvian sandwich shop located just North of Wilton Manors on 6th St (Just South of Oakland Park Blvd).
They do these great, huge sandwiches - Pork, Fish, Steak and a ton more. Prices are really good - like $6.50 for a sandwich. They have ceviche and some other daily specials too. Great cheap eats in FTL. Here is their website:

Also try Sasaya Japanese Market in Gateway Shopping center for good takeout sushi

Joy's Roti Shop in Lauderhill is great as well. Happy eatting!

Blue Marlin Fish House- North Miami Beach
Hi Sherry - I think this place is great! I usually stick with the smoked fish sampler. I believe it includes smoked salmon, mahi, and marlin. It is really good - the fish is moist and flavorful. I read somewhere that the place has switched owners since the show, but the smoked fish is still great. I have heard the lobster burger is pretty good too. Here is a link to a Chowhound post and another detailed report from Roadfood.

Ft. Lauderdale--Cafe Sharaku, a real gem
Great place!!! Thanks everybody! I am telling all my friends because unfortunately tonight, Friday, it was pretty empty... This restaurant deserves to be full!
Please go to Cafe Sharaku in Fort Lauderdale!!! (review)
OK - I had to bump this post because after reading the Chowhound reviews we decided to try Cafe Sharku tonight. Just like everyone said - it is great!
They do a full 4 course prix fixe menu for $26. I repeat $26. Everything on the menu is included, Sea Bass, Seared scallops, Tuna, and duck or filet mignon for only $2 more! The plates were beautifully presented and everything was well seasoned. I think my favorite was the tuna tartare app with creamy garlic sauced and quail egg...
I wish more people would try this place, it looks like they could use the business!
