Mobile Taco Cart Recommendation

We just had a party at the house last night and we had great success with Tu Tacos taco cart services. ALL of our party guests raved about the tacos: el pastor, chicken and carne asada. And even the carnivores loved the veggie tacos! The tacos came prepared with all the fixings - several salsas, cheese, etc. and chips & quac as well. One guest held court by chalking up *20* tacos!

Rudy & Naomi were fabulous! Not only were they professional but they were just great people to deal with. Our friends really liked them. Rudy, Naomi & their helper hung out afterwards and had drinks with us while their grill cooled down and they were just great people to have around. They even finagled hauling up the grill from street level up 30+ stairs to our 2nd floor back patio - a feat in itself. And to top it off, they were so reasonably priced and we didn't have to lift a finger as they took care of everything! What else more could you want?

I can't recommend them enough! They are definitely a party hit!

Enoteca Pinchiorri or La Giostra

I don't think you can go wrong at either place. I tried both last week and each meal was outstanding! You don't need to dress to the 9's, but I wouldn't go there in a t-shirt.

I'm happy to report that the cooking class at Villa Bordoni was a FANTASTIC experience, as was the entire stay at VB! The restaurant was a foodie's dream! If it weren't for our doggies back home, we could have stayed there forever.

Thanks for the heads up! If I can't get mom's homecooking then at least there's Barrio Fiesta closeby once again.

RIP 6th Street location :(

Coupa Cafe -- Beverly HIlls

I've been going there weekly for the past several months as it's right by my language school. GREAT food. All of the arepas I've tried are tasty - especially the gouda cheese one, which is serves as a lovely appetizer. One of their chopped salad specials recently was amazing: asparagus, bacon, sprinkled boiled egg, perfectly chopped tomatoes...lightly dressed. One of these days when I have more time (and I'm not studying & eating at the same time) I want to venture into their yummy looking dessert menu!

I say Katsu-Ya but definitely SKIP the Brentwood location and hit the non-scene'ish location on 3rd Street.

Samantha ~ I look forward to your review of Villa Bordoni as I *just* booked a 3-night stay there in April. Are you going to participate in their cooking class while you're there?

Yatai on Sunset...With a 20% off coupon!

With the exception of the albacore sashimi with crispy onions review (Katsu-Ya and Koi's versions tickle my fancy so much more; Yatai's was too bland for my tastes), I gotta give another thumbs up for Yatai! A friend and I took advantage of their Happy Hour specials last Friday and stuffed ourselves silly with the $4-5 rolls and soju drinks. We shared about 10 tapas (yes, hungry girls) and has 4 drinks each - total was around $100. With 20% off during the week, Yatai will definitely be receiving repeat business from me!

Healthy Food Delivery Service (http://www.susanshealthygourmet.com/)

I've tried it, twice (two separate weeks) even.

1) Hated the food. Boring, bland - everything tasted like white rice.
2) The fist time I opted for delivery. On Day 5 they screwed up and never delivered giving me a credit. Hence why I tried them out a second time.
3) The second time I used them I opted for pick up. They screwed up AGAIN.

I would NEVER recommend them to anyone.

Food Festivals? [moved from L.A. board]

I was going to reply to the original poster that he/she need not be sad about missing the recent Tamale Festival in L.A. The vendor selection was minimal and the festival itself felt more like a grade school fundraiser.

Now I'm interested in this Indio event!

BORDER GRILL (Santa Monica): Yay or Nay??!

I used to love BG, but after they took away their rock shrimp w/spinach dish, the rest of the menu dropped to mediocre territory. Definitely stick with happy hour as it has a fun atmosphere, but the food has been a 6-7 out of 10 as of late.

I can't stomach In-N-Out's entire menu. Give me a Fatburger ANY day.

Solar de Cahuenga - New Hollywood Restaurant

We've been there twice in the past 2 weeks. Not once did our salads have iceberg lettuce (which I won't eat), but instead had plentiful fresh greens. And the salad portions were HUGE. One of the times I had the chicken pesto crepe and while a tad on hte oily side, the flavor was all there. Service: not a problem. Prompt and courteous.

Maybe we've just been lucky? The last couple of times I went earlier in the year were for coffee and food to go, but again no problems with service or food. Though, I wish they had a website with menu or takeout menu.

Kansas City Barbeque in LA?

According to my KC born & raised husband who has lived in L.A. for about 15+ years now, it doesn't exist. He just BBQs at home and uses various KC BBQ sauces. If you find one, please share!

ISO "Trendy-Healthy" in LA / Beverly Hills area

"less of a scene and none of the out of work commercial actors"

Beware, though, the flipside to that are the obnoxious teenage brats (yes, full-on BRATS) that hang there after school is out.

Yes, hurricane season. Though we've been in September before and had nothing but blue HOT skies.

Cabo San Lucas

IMO both Mi Casa & Mi Casa Mariscos both have gone downhill over the years. Definitely not a *bad* meal, but not as good as before. We just got back from trip #7 (8?) and these are the places we will be taking our guests when we go back at the end of the month:

* Pancho's: http://panchos.com
Authentic Mexican. No A/C so prepare to be hot if you go during the day or sit close to the window at night. $$

* Los Deseos: http://www.loscabosguide.com/restaura...
On the Marina - Mexican in a nice, more contemporary Marina atmosphere. $$

* Seafood Mama's: http://www.loscabosguide.com/dining/s...
For breakfast - cheap & great portions! $

* Nick-San: http://nicksan.com
Yes, sushi. We went for the first time last month and left asking ourselves why it took so long to go there (sushi snobs). SO GOOD. $$$

* Gardenias Tacos
Located on the side-street on the corner where McDonald's is located - about a block in. US$1.50 fish and $2.00 shrimp tacos - SO GOOD. $

Keep in mind, Edith's is supposed to be closed some time in September. I really like Edith's as well (hubby thinks it's overpriced for what it is, but does like the quality) but didn't suggest it because of the month you said you'd be there.

Hope this helps!
