What did you have for lunch today?
Kimbap and a Dt. Coke, for there was no cold Dt. Pepsi at the Lotte.
What did you have for breakfast today?
Since this is the internet, you can't see me clutching my dt cherry pepsi, but I am. Mostly because I managed to throw out the bottle cap, but still, I succumbed to the lure of artificially flavored caffeine.
What did you have for breakfast today?
Banana bread with a thin smear of goat cheese and sliced strawberries on top and, because I keep forgetting to buy milk, black coffee.
Thanks to all the morning pepsi drinkers on this thread, I am really craving a soda now. Appreciate that. Really, I do.
Fresh wild turkey breast
I gotten a couple of whole turkeys from my mom's boyfriend, but I went a totally different way. So, I'm probably not usefully since I brined the suckers in an orange-bay-something mix. Then I roasted them in a clay pot. They were tasty. I wish he would catch some more and give them to me.
When did the original Nick's close?
That's good to know. Apparently the Waldorf branch is still open, so I might head down there soon for a sub and a sausage. I'll drive by the original grocery and see what's happening to the place.

When did the original Nick's close?
I haven't been down to that end of PG for years, so I apparently missed the Clinton store closing. Admittedly, the store needed a makeover, but I didn't think it was that bad. Does anybody know the family decided to close it? Was that branch even still owned by the Ferrante family?
Now the nostalgia is making want their sausages. And a sub. A sub would be great about now, since I apparently needed to eat a larger lunch.
College Park area food?
+1 Of course, I think just about everything in the area has been covered. Except the Korean joints, I suppose the local ones are acceptable, but not great.
Goose Fat in DC Area??
Considering that the board in silent on finding goose fat, I think your best bet is to roast a goose and save the fat. I did that last year, and it was a very tasty bird.
'Hound-worthy chow recs for a 4-day trip to DC, near Mt Vernon Square?
Mileage may vary on all my suggestions. Others may have had different experiences with the some of the restaurants.
Kushi will be close by and I've found their sushi pretty good. Stop in for a bento box at lunch and see if you like it.
Mandu is right next door, but I've never had the chance to eat there so I don't know if it's good or bad Korean.
Bistro d'Oc is probably your best chance for moules frites in the area, and is a favorite of mine. Mostly because I love watching the tourists at Ford's. But I think there are probably better restaurants for moules in the area.
Chinese is harder. You could try Chinatown Express, but a trip out of the city to the Wheaton Metro stop and New Kam Fong would get you a better meal.
Ren's Ramen is in the same general area, but again I think the board would have better ideas for ramen in the city then I would.
While you're in the city I'd like to suggest you try some of Jose Andres restaurants. You'll be incredibly close to 4 of them. (America Eats, Jaleo, Oyamel and Zaytinya.) Zaytinya is Mediterranean, but I don't think they do gryos. America Eats has a great oyster po' boy and they have a $1 oyster happy hour.
College Park area food?
Ledos in College Park doesn't suck to me.
Sardi's on Rt. 1 for Peruvian chicken.
Ba Le on University Blvd for banh mi.
Pho 75 is across the street for Pho.
Not really a restaurant, but Jin Mi on Rhode Island Ave has my favorite garlic chive kimchi. Skip the groceries, unless you want cheap green onions, and head to the back of the store for the banchans and kimchi.
Any decent places in Uniontown?
It is beautiful, but it's closed during the winter. So is Deep Creek Winery, which I would suggest, if it wasn't closed. Backyard Gardens (PA foods) in Ohiopyle may be closed as well.
There's Meloni's in town, it's just okay. It's been there forever and the locals like it, but I thought the red sauce needed more garlic. You may want to try it, just to get a feel for the town.
If you want Mennonite comfort food, the Casselman Inn in Grantsville is a good choice. You're so close to the border between MD-WV-PA you can find lots to see and do.
Local VA Hams?
I think that's Calhoun's. I got one of those this summer, and it was very good. Salty, but really good.
Graffiato by Mike Isabella opening soon...
Wait, you asked in a public forum the reader's thoughts and someone gave one that wasn't joyful, and you weren't happy?
I'm sorry. It's not you. It's me. We just have different ideas about questions posed on the internet. Let's agree to disagree and move on.
Now then, buck up! I'm the only one being a fussbudget! I've totally made Jeserf totally happily! That's gotta be worth something.
Graffiato by Mike Isabella opening soon...
I won't be going. The danger of a chef driven restaurant is that sometimes the chef's personality turns off the diners.
Near Falling Water
I got nothing and I was just up there. You could try asking at Backyard Garden's in Ohioplye to see if they have any suggestions, but I don't think the trend you're looking for has made it there yet.
Looking for Locally-owned, Unique Grocery in/around Lancaster
How about instead of a grocery store, you try the Central Market? I haven't been in over a decade, but roaming through the stands was a great fun.
Bon Appetit & Paltrow
How does she survive on less then a 1000 calories a day? That cannot be healthy.
Please, please, please get rid of that SHARE thing on the left.
Agreed!
This is the first time I've visited Chowhound in over a week because of that thing.
Cuban Sandwich in Beltsville/College Park Area?
Franklin's may have it as a special.
Where to buy good coffee?
+2
Places to find them: Riverdale Park and Greenbelt farmer's markets. E-mail Zeke's and ask to be put on the Greenbelt distro list for winter delivery. They roast the day before they bring the coffee. Check the Greenbelt co-op for them as well. Also, pop into the gelato shop in Penn Quarter for their coffee.
Ethnic Religious Festivals around DC Balt area
St Sophia's has a fall & a spring festival. I don't see a date for the fall one, but the spring one is May 13-15. It's not cheap, but there is some tasty food.
Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral

Truly great coffee in Harford or Baltimore Counties?
Zeke's Coffee? Since they're my favorite coffee, I should not be considered an unbiased source.

Where to buy Duck Breast, DC Metro, Need ASAP
The new Wegmans in PG Co has D'artagnan duck breasts. 202 is just a hop from 50.
Cleveland hound heading to Falling Water
I second walking through Nemacolin, but I'm not so sure about the food.
My experiences are different from yours, but I'd argue that there is a regional food in the area. I say that because I attend the folk/harvest festival at Springs every year. The focus of the food culture tends to be on baked goods and not on main courses. Restaurants tended to be judged on their breads, rolls and pies.
The area also seems to heavily influenced by Mennonites, but I don't know enough about their food culture to articulate exactly how they've influenced the region at large.
Why don't Korean Restaurants pack up leftover Panchan?
I can ask for the panchan to be refilled? Omigod, this is what I get for being shy and not wanting to cause a fuss!
Time Life The Good Cook Series
I have 'Candy' and it just candy. IIRC, there were 2 different printings? editions? One was for the UK market and the other was for the US market. I think Patisserie was just printed for the UK market, and the US market got 'Pies and Pastries.'
Downsizing our grocery bill, family of 4....
So you don't enjoy the nifty mutation that allows some populations to digest milk? Speaking only for myself, I find it incredibly nifty that my ancestors mutated.
