Lunch in Minturno

Does anyone have a recommendation for a weekday lunch in Minturno? Any suggestions for the area, food-wise, would be appreciated.

Polish/Hungarian in Rome

Does anyone know of any Polish or Hungarian restaurants in Rome? If so, how were they?

Mushy cranberries

I usually buy Ocean Spray just because it's "there" but the quality has been terrible.

Mushy cranberries

Has anyone else had trouble finding decent cranberries this year? Seems like almost all of the bags I find in the stores have a very high percentage of mushy berries and a lot of them are beyond use. Whatever happened to the firm berries that used to be the norm?

Cafe Rani on the skids?

I just had lunch there today. I thought things were as they always have been. The service has always been a bit slow and perfunctory, but the food has always been good. Certainly there are many places in town with better service, but worse food.

I had the mushroom burger and romaine side salad. Both were very nicely done. My DW had the Soprano salad, which she was very happy with.

I really did not see any evidence of the place slipping and will probably go again and take friends to it as well.

Colonel Custer's Last McStand

Why would Custer be offensive to people of Indian Country? Not being a resident I claim ignorance, but Custer got his from them. I'd think Andrew Jackson would more more like Hitler in Indian Country.

Eating out in Trieste

Strong second for Buffet da Pepi.

I visited Trieste about 10 years ago and had a wonderful experience, enjoyed the food and the sights, but for some reason the only dining experience that stands out in my mind is Buffet da Pepi and its pork sampler platter (served on a pig-shaped plate). They also offer fresh horse radish which is fantastic.

I can also recommend the ride up to Opachino (sp?) on the street car/venicular. A fun ride with a great view over the city and out to sea.

One last thing, Proseco is made in the area around Trieste, try it at the source...

Matt and Naddie's ???

CORRECTION: If you want to get to M&N'S from St. Chaz Ave. head to the end of FERET St. While the restaurant's address is on Leonidas, that street runs parallel to St. Charles.

In fact M&N's stands at the junction of 3 streets: Feret, Leonidas and Leake. Leake has always struck me as an Ironic name, since it skirts the edge of MS River Levee. Anyway, it's well worth the effort to get there.

Matt and Naddie's ???

I had dinner there last week. All the menu items I've tried (either last week or on previous occasions) have been excellent. They've got a nice mix of land and sea food dishes and some inventive salads. The Belgian Endive & Beet salad is simply the best use of beets I've ever tasted. They also do a lot with Gulf fish like Drum and Amberjack.

If you're in the area and want to try it, they still do the lunch buffet. If you're coming from the FQ it's a nice walk up Leonidas St. from the SC Streetcar line.

The neighborhood is a very nice older part of Carrollton. If you're from out of town it will provide you with a nice contrast to the FQ or the Garden District.

Does anyone know if the White Cap has re-opened? I know it was washed away in '05, but I keep hearing rumors about a resurrection. Anyone have info?

Dim Sum in the area?

Is there any place in the area that serves dim sum? Ding How (sp?), off of Veterans, was the only place I knew of that did, but they've been closed for a while. Any other candidates?

Looking for a study nook

I like Cafe Luna at Magazine and Nashville and the Bean Gallery on N. Carrollton near Orleans Ave. Both have food, wifi and a lots of studyin' folk.

Good food in Jackson, MS

Looks like I might be spending a couple of days in Jackson, MS this weekend. I'm interested in good moderate places to eat. Barbecue is always a plus, but I'd be interested in anything good...
