Korean BBQ in Yonge/Sheppard area

Authentic KBBQ is mostly around Yonge and Steeles area, my favorite ones are Seoul House and another place at Yonge and Clark (really quality food, BBQed with charcoal; unfortunately I don't remember the name, maybe someone can chime in). There are a few near Yonge/Finch. I presume you've searched around for these other areas.

I'm not aware of any around Sheppard.

Richmond Hill might be a bit out of the way for you... but in case you don't mind the drive, I've found a new place (new for me, they've been around for a while) at Bayview and Major Mac, in the same plaza as Restaurant Malaysia (815 Major Mackenzie Drive East, Richmond Hill, Ontario)

Decent food, not much seating, but very clean.

Woohoo thanks! I drive by Golden Star ALL THE TIME (I buy groceries from a few places on Doncaster) and have been very curious about it.

WILL TRY IT OUT =)

Breakfast around Queen and Woodbine - any recommendations?

Leslieville is a bit of a trek, but at least it's on Queen (so it's one street-car ride): Bonjour Brioche

I love this place... lighter breakfast with great food, not your typical egg/sausage breakfast place.

I second that tartar dish... yummy! Although I didn't have it in Toronto... sklineR33 - which restaurants do you get this in Toronto?

It reminds me a bit of the Lebanese tartar dish (also ground beef)..

Like BokChoi said, it's about $20-$23 per serving at these places, and usually you need to order a minimum of 2 servings to use the bbq tables... so it's better if you go in a group so you can taste more types of meat

I find since bulgogi is much more heavily marinated, you don't get as much out of the charcoal as kalbi... so I usually leave bulgogi to the regular korean restaurants. BUT, charcoal still makes a great difference on the bulgogi.

I haven't been to the Orfus Rd location in many years... the interior was fairly outdated back then whereas yonge/steeles is newer, also fairly spacious. Although I'd hope the original location have renovated by now =)

ISO: one person bodum

I bought mine at Kitchen Stuff Plus... around $30 for a nicer one (chrome top, some are just black plastic), brews for one or two.

BTW there's also another Seoul House at Yonge and Steeles area.

IMO, charcoal Korean BBQ is fairly hard to find, so they're generally very good. As previously mentioned, I've been both Sariwon and Seoul House, and I love both! I do find slight differences though:
Seoul House (for some reason the I remember the Yorkdale one seemed tastier) has a great grill and marinate.
Sariwon is close, but when I was there (only been there twice), I find the meat quality slightly better. The fat on the Kalbi was very fine and evenly distributed....

Although... the best Korean BBQ that I've been to is still Brothers in San Francisco.

Shaved Ice With Condensed Milk and Fruit

Wooooh thanks! I'll check this type out as well - the ability to use regular ice cubes is a definite plus!

Shaved Ice With Condensed Milk and Fruit

I'm a shaved ice fanatic and that's exactly my complaint! All the places I've been to only have crushed ice (i.e. blender). I usually get it at Ten Ren, but their quality have gone downhill:
1. Crushed ice and not shaved...
2. Portions got smaller... it's just ice! wtf?
3. They always run out of grass jelly, not like it's a rare item...

My parents recently bought a manual ice shaver back from Taiwan and I don't think I'm ever going back to the stores:
http://www.amazon.com/The-Pampered-Ch...

That's the Pampered Chef Ice Shaver, I basically got some unbranded one that's probably identical.

With this, you can make your own variations that they don't even have in the stores.
